You know, lots of goobers will probably argue, but considering what the price difference will likely be, you will be fine with a 13" if you are legitimately light user. HOWEVER, i wouldn't get less than the lower end 15" myself if I were you.

I would say "normal" user... not light. I do a lot on my 13" except play the high-end games or professionally produce multimedia content. It's nice to get the fastest stuff, but there is usually a tradeoff with battery life and Apple seems focused on maximizing battery life for its portable products.

This just in.
Apple website is updated with complete information on all the new macs even though the store isnt updated yet. Go check it out.

Seriously, Apple is annoying with this wait-for-next-gen..

And regarding screen, what is Retina? You mean 300+ ppi screen? Do you even realize how big it'd be?

I don't know the specifics, I just heard from a R&D source that that's going to be a big selling point in the next one. Things change all the time but that's what they seem to be going for at the moment.

Wow! The high end 15 inch MBP is the one to get, with an upgraded screen resolution. Wow!

speechless, the 13" can't get the high res screen the match the air. that was the only thing i was hoping for so i could get a 13",,, not sure if i want to get a 15" i've had the 15" for so long for work machines, i just don't want that size for the 13",,, the air unfortunately isn't powerful enough. :(

Hi all,

I am a bit confused about the new GPU, it doesn't seem like much of an update. For graphic design and a bit of 3D modeling, is the 15" with 6490M 256 MB adequate? Or sould i go for the high-end option? Probably going for the high resolution screen as well btw.

I hope they don't rip off the superdrive ... its time for blueray. And a laptop is for beeing mobile ... and then you come to the point where you need some data from a disc and you say NOOOOOOOOO! ...

Yes, it's a sinking feeling, BUT I have not needed to put in a disc of anything for 2 years on my MBP.
So, they would be right that disc use is now the exception.

So, that space can be used for better things.

Performance bump aside, there's nothing terribly exciting about this upgrade. Maybe Thunderbolt will amount to something, but how many devices are available now?

Yeah. It's not as if this is the most significant processor update to the MBP since the Core 2 Duo, probably since the intel switch.

And, as for thunderbolt, those of us with older MBPs can just upgrade to it with the PCIe slots they stopped putting in about 2 years ago, in one of the many underwhelming updates that took place since the last time we got 2 more cores.

This forum is such a joke. Half the people moan no matter what happens and the other half are such fervent zealots that they think anyone who moans is a microsoft fanboi (are there such things) trying to start a flame war.

i) Apple finally adopting a revolutionary interface first rather than adopting a wait-and-see approach
ii) Apple finally offering quad-core laptops
iii) Apple finally offering Bluray BTO

2 out of 3 is pretty much miraculous at this stage. Apple hasn't come this close to justifying the Apple tax on their laptops in an absolute age.
