This really needs to happen.

I bought the 16" MacBook Pro (M1) just for the display quality and size. It's a pleasure to use while working remotely, and the wide chassis is great for on-lap computing, but I don't need the power of the M1 Pro or Max and the thickness, heft and weight that comes along with it.

A thin and light MacBook Air with a large display would be amazing. And I won't mind a little extra weight if they decide to throw in a large battery for unprecedented battery life in this category. If the 13" Air gets all day battery life, imagine what an even larger battery would bring (after factoring in that a larger display will draw more power, of course).

Perfect and great news if true. I will trade up my M2 MBA immediately. I love my 16" M1 Max MBPro but it is a heavy lump which does not make the best of traveling companions. My older eyes need more screen real estate for the larger text I need or am more comfortable with and a 15" MBA with exactly the same ports etc. as the 13" model will be fine (although an SD card slot would be nice, but not essential).
