I think the issue is that Macs/computers in general are not needed these days for a large proportion of the market.

Many people who I know run solely on an iPhone and iPad (some even just an iPhone), some of these are business owners and students, the need for a PC or Mac for many users has diminished considerably since the increased capability of mobile devices.
Sadly true! Especially for kids to teenagers. All my daughters school stuff is done on iPad. I’ve been trying to use my iPad for work yesterday.. just basic emails and its just not as good as a laptop.. especially when adding attachments etc.. it can be done but I just found it hard work

If Apple does make a 15.5" MacBook Air, it really needs to have at least a single cooling fan for the M2 SoC. There's been a lot of complaints about how hot the current MacBook Air with the M2 SoC runs.

There has been a lot of hot air about cooling on the M2 Air which does not run hot unless you really push it. Even when pushed, it runs fine, just slows down by about 15%. If you are not doing video editing daily or doing lots of video games, you are unlikely to run into any heat issues or care about minor performance differences. Fans are for the pro machines which is what people who do heavy processing tasks on a daily basis should get.

If Apple is using 3nm chips by the time a larger Air comes out, then heat is even less likely to be a problem. Not having a fan is a major benefit of the Air line. If you want a fan, there are 3 other models to suite you.

While I'll almost agree with you, with the potential size of the 15.5" MacBook Air, that's at least enough room to accommodate just one single fan to cool the M2 SoC. We don't need multiple fans like you have with the MacBook Pro models.

But then you have a useless fan. The point is not to have a fan. The M2 doesn’t need to be cooled.

I used to think lack-of-active-cooling was a negative for the M2s and that Apple was just being cheap for leaving it out... But then I realized that's not the direction Apple is going. It wants competitive perf without cooling, and that's the direction ASi is going.

Today the Airs, tomorrow, ???

I want to buy the Macbook Air M2 midnight but Im waiting because people said the new one would come out in March. And now I read that it would be from June. I would be very upset to wait until March for anything. What would you do?

Since you probably will need to live for a few years with whichever machine you buy, you should consider whether you want to eat the marshmallow now or wait for the second marshmallow. :)

One reason to hang on is the mooted possibility of an OLED display for the next model (though I'm personally a little skeptical of this for this year at least) but I don't expect to see the next Air before summer at the earliest as I doubt they will start the 3rd Apple Silicon generation less than a year after the second. March will be for the M2 Ultra Mac Studio/ Mac Pro, and maybe this 15" M2 Air, then WWDC is the first realistic possibility for the 13" M3 Air to debut.

You had a special discount like a commercial gesture or sth?

Yeah that price is absurd dude

You will probably be able to sell it and exchange it for a 15 air . But you will misss the pro motion, insane display

And I agree. I had to return my 16 simply because it was digging into my palms and was giving me true pain. I had wrist pain every time I had to use it
Was the pain because of the squared edge or because of the thickness of the machine? Have you tried the m2 air? I am wondering if you would experience pain from typing on that machine as well.

both i presume .

i haven't tried the m2 air , it should be more comfortable obviously , albeit not as good as the m2 air . it still has squared edges and is 3* thicker than the m1 iirc

Did you have an earlier MBP? Those also had a similar ”sharp“ edge, they just had that undercut to the case.

How high is the laptop sitting? A lot of people use their laptps on desks that are a couple of inches too high and it cause the writs to bend a little too much and that can cause pain.

I want the 15 inch MacBook Air. I can wait to March or June but not to October...

If a 15” Air were to come out in the fall, there is a chance that it and the 13” Air might have M3 chips. Would that tempt you to wait a little longer? It’s frustrating making decisions with little information and much of that information changes on a regular basis. 😊

At the moment there seems to be a very wobbly consensus around the first half of the year, maybe at a March event. If you're set on the 15" though there's no choice but to wait however long until it appears, as this will be the first generation of the product, there's currently only the 13.3" M1 or 13.6" M2 available.

I would prefer it in March with just the 15 inch screen. The M2 is more than enough for me. Even the M1... I choose the M2 over the M1 only because of the midnight color.

Something new about de MBA in Spring?
Kuo says "Q2 2023 or later"
Gurman says "As early as this spring"
Ross Young says panels start production in Q1 2023 (i.e. now) and also expects a launch "as soon as this spring".

That all suggests a March-April launch timeframe, but we're unlikely to hear anything more until it's unveiled unless there's another actual leak. If any production issues come up Apple may also choose to push the launch back (This just happened with the M2 14/16" MacBook Pros). If you're set on the 15" it doesn't make any difference though, as there is no 'current model' to buy instead.

Im thinking about the 14'' MacBook M2 Pro for 1900€ here in Spain.
Because I'm starting to think they'll release it in June or September. If it were in March, I think that by now we would have a better leak.

I'd probably look at grabbing a deal on an M1 16" if you're willing to consider that route. I've looked into it and the drop from ~15.4" to 14.2" is extremely noticeable if you're used to 15" laptops. It's a bigger difference than the 1" makes it sound.

Macs usually don't leak like iPhones. We usually know everything there is to know about the iPhone months in advance, but it's a way more popular product so there's a lot more interest. With MacBooks, if anything you might get a glimpse of a partial CAD plan, like the 14" MacBook Pro in 2021, or a reference in MacOS, like the 16" MacBook Pro in 2019. Given production should have started recently (per Ross Young) we might get a component leak, but it doesn't always happen. I don't think the M2 MacBook Air, or the previous redesign of the MBA in 2018 leaked.

I want this and I want it now.

Hardly ever use my very old Air anymore, it’s become all iMac and then iPad Pro, which remains a beautiful compromise. I need more mobile capability.

But that 13 inch screen now seems small.

Gut says this won’t be a Spring/Q2 sale date. I’d fear a fall release for student sales (though, actually, it’s summer availability which would help that). Worse: it was all a dream.

Would love to start seeing some more leaks/news about this.
