Apple, please amaze me... or you'll be amazed by how fast I stop supporting you guys. I've been barely holding on for too long, this is your last shot.

For months now the rumors about this mid-2017 upgrade have been extremely conservative, and rumors tend to be overly optimistic in general. So it's really on you to temper your expectations instead of expecting something truly boggling-- it's not like they're about to magically double their battery capacity or offer 64GB ram, or anything else crazy.

my guess is that they will just refresh to Kaby Lake.
... the rest of the time will be spent boasting about the applications of Touch Bar.
I completely agree with this statement. Lower your expectations now. This will be an iOS / MacOS event with a quick reference to a specs boost to the mbp to include Kabylake (with an outside chance of more ram). The only thing that's likely to get more ports is the 12" MacBook and that will be an addition USB c only. All of this is complete speculation on my part of course - but the higher we dream the greater the disappointments are with Apple Keynotes of late. I hope I'm surprised - I miss the Apple-wow-keynote moments. Fingers crossed for new shiny stuffs.

Im gonna say it...but I have to say it....

I JUST SPENT 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A TOP OF THE LINE VERSION OF THIS MACBOOK TWO MONTHS AGO!

AND IT GETS DEVALUED ALREADY?!?!?!?!

I read this and thought I must have posted this telepathicly. This really sucks. Not only did I order it day one but mine didn't arrive till December 17th. It was a 7 week wait.

Then on January 6th the last day to return it, after complaining of poor battery (I waited in an Apple Store for 2:45 minutes because apple care said go right now without an appointment) .. mine went from 100% battery to just 6% battery left by the time they saw me. Not even 3 hours? That's BS. I brought my old 17" with me and it had 27% left after the same time period and it's 5 years old.

They wouldn't take my laptop back in store and replace it with new, even though I only had it 17 days and reported the poor battery on day 2! The Genius Bar told me back on day 2 to keep records of the battery times. I did. Yet afyer 17 days their only offer was to get a refurb? After 17 days of ownership??

I went home furious.

I called the online store who I bought it from. They offered a full refund OR a brand new retail replacement. I took the brand new replacement hoping I wouldn't have to fall back on my 2011 17" laptop.

It came 2 days later directly from China - FEDEX overnight - which was really fast being how this was a custom order, being replaced by a custom order. Kudos to the online store for that!

So I get it January 8th. Same battery issue. Now what? So being desperate and hearing Kabylake the SOONEST would be 2018 second quarter I kept it.

It took apple 4 months (April 25th) to fix the macOS to run our businesses software. I work for apple as a beta tester and it still took that long.

So I finally got a functioning laptop April 25th just one month ago and NOW they are updating the laptop line up?

I'm really pissed. More so than you. I felt like they released beta hardware that struggled through April to finally work then after they figured out what's wrong NOW they release the one that works??

I saw people on here given you grief "welcome to technology..." that's not what you and I are unhappy about. Had I known there was the slightest chance there would be a new version that fixes all the problems this had I would have waited. Hell I already waited 5 years whats 6 more months. But after seeing them not do updates to their computers for 2-3 years why would anyone in their wildest imaginations think they'd suddenly care about laptops?

They should at least give us the option of refund. Especially anyone who was still waiting for one to work in January. It's not going to happen obviously just me talking. I just hope this new one doesn't come with months worth of problems like ours. That would be terrible and I don't wish that on anyone.

Joseph.

The Mac updates may get a slide at very best.

Kaby Lake, and, being a developer conference, talk about the touch bar.

With a Siri Speaker, new form factor, sort of, iPad, maybe a new Apple Pencil, etc etc, for a show that doesn't normally introduce hardware, the more likely oppotunity to see the minor products updates will be to see what's changed when the Apple Store comes back online next Monday.

I need 8 slots. When will apple do this?

Done.

AMD officially announced Vega recently and some high end cards should be coming in June. Maybe Apple got some early access to a mobile part?
would be a nice return to form if they got some new hardware at a decent time.

Hmm, that's possible though, from this article, it seems that Vega will not be for mobile, at least for this year

In the coming months, AMD will also launch Vega GPUs for the gaming, professional workstation and data center markets. Some Vega GPUs will launch this quarter.

Now I know why Mac Pro users are excited for Vega

Yes, the ports are really bad on MacBook 12". - For me the show stopper on MBA was mainly the display. I could never understand why they would just put a retina display in MBA. - Thinking of a MBA with retina display, i'd fully agree would be a good deal.

True. Display is the only thing that also stopping me from going back to MBA.

We've had two quarters for solid to strong sales, the most recent quarter being the best. It's unlikely legacy MacBook Pro sales would sustain, increase sales one let alone two quarters out.

Except for the huge pent up demand for new macbooks after 500+ days without an update. That's a lot of people buying the 2015 after the steaming turd Apple dropped in 2016. There's been plenty of indication Apple was shocked by the surge in demand for the 2015 model and that brings us to what's going to happen next week.

Why would anyone pay $500 more for an emoji bar when it also gets them a crippled keyboard, soldered SSD (major issue when the logic board fails), lack of ports you can use without an adapter on 99.99% of the devices you can buy today. And a cheaper build, no light up Apple logo. Heck, they don't even include the power cable like they did up until 2015. $500 more for an inferior machine and they cut every corner.

It's no wonder a ton of people took one look at the 2016 turd and bought the 2015.

In an ideal world, I'm sure most would agree a decent yearly upgrade would be perfect, but since Intel does whatever it wants with chips and releases Apple just has to work around it so this is going to happen from time to time. No need to be a smartass about it :p

Why would anyone want a yearly upgrade cycle? I don't think anyone who takes a moment to think would want that.

Every other computer company in the world has a cycle of spec bumps as hardware becomes available (a couple of times a year) with major hardware revisions a lot less often (3-5 years).

Apple did this too until 2012. That works and you're not a slave to some other company's release schedule. New chips come out, and you include them. Maybe a HDD bump too when Intel releases new chips because storage prices drop over time. That's how it worked historically.

Tim Cook truly is a complete idiot.

Looking forward to a vertical Touch Bar - stupid old ~, Tab, Caps Lock, Shift and fn (seriously? who uses _that_?).

Also less battery to compensate for Kaby Lake efficiency at idle - translates into thin and light!

It is ok to have a slightly thicker MBP

But Apple being Apple, they will just slap Kabylake CPU and motherboard in last year's turd model and hail it as second coming of Jesus. But we need to understand. Johnny has not yet finished with treads on his work table at new Apple campus. He also needs to design few shoe racks as well. That explains stagnating innovation and designs at Apple in last 3-4 years.

Relatively new iMacs were available 9 months ago.

Wasn't it October 13, 2015? Isn't that like 19 months?

But Apple being Apple, they will just slap Kabylake CPU and motherboard in last year's turd model and hail it as second coming of Jesus.

That would only scratch the Surface Pro.

Except for the huge pent up demand for new macbooks after 500+ days without an update.

If you wait long enough the demand will go away.

but since Intel does whatever it wants with chips and releases Apple just has to work around it so this is going to happen from time to time.

Maybe they could give AMD some of that kickstarter money instead of Chihuly?

I think you got it wrong. There are more than enough people coming FROM the disaster that is called Windows 10 to more than compensate for a few going the other way.

Boring.
Derivative.
Uninspired.

Sure. But neither OS is a disaster.

The new MacBook Pro. It's the best MacBook ever made and to make it even lighter, we've removed the display. You're going to love it.

That's a darn good idea. Apple can sell the companion dongle iPad Pro 12.9 for display output. Not too far fetched since other companies are shipping laptops with Kaby Lake while Apple got a bargain on older Skylake from Intel and passing on the savings.

More like Apple continues on their vision and makes the best product (according to them) they can. If it's not a great product, people will stop buying them. Steve Jobs himself said this.
And Apple do learn if they have a dud. Ie. Ipod hi fi, first gen Apple TV, 1st gen MacBook Air, 3rd gen Ipod shuffle, etc. You don't just come out and make great products without trying and failing.

I'd argue the real dud in those mentioned was the 3rd gen shuffle , and Steve was away for that one.

Can as ask, what is iPod hifi? Not heard of it

When was the last time Apple brought back a feature they removed?
I'm serious. I don't recall.

While not many remember, back in the early black and white MacBook days, Apple introduced the 13" MacBook aluminium model without FireWire to nothing short of public outcry. At that point, even the black and white MacBooks had FireWire, so the whole planet felt ripped off and if you Google it a bit you will find a tonne of sour articles about it at that time. Apple very quickly moved to correct this and reintroduced the 13" *with Firewire*, and rebranded it as a MacBook Pro.

So, it has happened before.

This newest update will just be a switch to the Kaby Lake processor and possibly 32gb of RAM. That's it. I guess I'm gonna try and get my 2011 17" Macbook Pro through one more year of waiting. If Apple hasn't released a true professional laptop by the end of the year then I'm done. I've been pushed as far as I can go. So tired of Apple listening to casual consumers over actual professionals. I wish Tim Cook would just officially cut the cord, instead of consistently promising their professional base that they haven't abandoned them, while simultaneously handing them subpar machines that simply don't work well in professional environments. These are NOT pro machines. They are very fancy consumer laptops. That is it.
Have you actually used one? I hate to argue on the internet but I get so tired of hearing people complain about the new MacBook pros when they have never even used one. Sure they are too expensive in many people's eyes (mine too to be honest) and sure people wanted more (don't they always?) but they are the fastest, lightest and most powerful laptops have ever made and will out perform your 2011, quite considerably. I too was disappointed when they were released but after using one (had one at work) have realised they are great machines. Also, the previous model - didn't only the very top 15 inch have ANY gpu? How people were fine with that I don't know...
