There is one precedent: the 2008 original (13") MacBook Air had only one USB and one microDVI port. The 2010 update added a second USB port on both the 11" and 13" models (with the monitor port already having been upgraded to mDP later in the 2008). In 2011, the mDP was upgraded to TB(1).
In that case, the MacBook Air was reinvented from the premium executive notebook (like today's 12" MacBook) to the mainstream product. I doubt we'll see the 12" MacBook gain a second port, but it will likely get TB3 in 2018, at which point Apple may decide it can be "mainstreamed" and replace the Air completely.

Unless, of course, the current offering is a great solution for your needs. Personally, the new MacBook Pro was a welcome update to my old MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt 3 / USB C is the future I was waiting for.

Waiting on Intel to deliver chips on schedule and on spec is a fools game.
Unless you want the 13". It won't be getting 6 cores, so no coffeelake

The only update I think we'll see from the 15" MBP will be updated to KabyLake and a 32 GB BTO option that will cost a lot since it'll be a custom solution.

Did AMD release any new Radeon Pros?

My thoughts as well.

Man, I would be so pissed off if I went all out and got a top spec 15" pro and then it's "out dated" 6 months later. Especially if they sort out stuff like the battery out.

Yeah, you're right. Apple should just keep selling the current lineup of products forever. Maybe minor spec bumps every few years.

Good news for you: they still have the pre-Touch Bar MBPs around which are pretty much the better buy compared to these overpriced lumps of fancy aluminium.

Downside, they still charge the same price rather than lowering it.

If only they'd update it to 2017 parts (or drop the price to reflect the 2015 parts), it would be the perfect update.

Im gonna say it...but I have to say it....

I JUST SPENT 4 THOUSAND DOLLARS ON A TOP OF THE LINE VERSION OF THIS MACBOOK TWO MONTHS AGO!

AND IT GETS DEVALUED ALREADY?!?!?!?!

It's your fault for spending 4k on a freak'n laptop and worrying about whether or not it does what you purchased it for. If you can't understand that, you don't need a 4k laptop.

What makes you so special the rest of the world has to wait on an update based on when you bought yours? :p

Frequent updates are good, much better than waiting years between updates where the entire product line is stale.

If true, this is most certainly good news. I guess/hope Apple had a wake-up call. A better CPU and 64gb max memory is my guess on the changes.

Unfortunately, the meaningful changes most pros I speak with want—a true 10-12 hour battery, sd slot, full travel keyboard, all 4 full power USB-c ports, will not appear in this release, if ever.

Fingers crossed Apple is updating the MacBook and MacBook Air too. They are giving up too much competitive room by selling outdated technology at premium prices.

And of course, let's hope as part of this awaken at Apple, let's hope Apple is investing heavily in Mac software. Mac being a sub team of iOS software is a bad omen—just look at the mess that is preview.

But to conclude on a positive note, it's great Apple is doing an update so quickly. Sends a good message to market.

AMD officially announced Vega recently and some high end cards should be coming in June. Maybe Apple got some early access to a mobile part?
would be a nice return to form if they got some new hardware at a decent time.

... that's weird. i thought that macbook is selling so INCREDIBLY well, why does it need an update after such a short period of time? ;-)

if it's true, i would be very happy if apple listens to people. i'm really, really curious.

What about the iMac??? Why isn't anyone talking about it? Mine just died after nursing it along for 9 months waiting for a freaking update and yet all I hear about is a MBP. FRUSTRATED!!

They do release sales, which show sales as being strong. That doesn't mean won't continue with spec updates when feasible.

You guys are incredible. If apple doesn't update you complain. If apple does update, you complain. You might be happier with a windows machine.
The prefer the new Surface Pro, which only put new chip but still has only 1 USB-A port and 1 old display port, and now the pen is sold separately. To them that is innovation.

Have they released says that show the 2016's being strong or the whole MBP line?

While this is strange to say. He's actually right. Apple doesn't care about one user considering switching platforms, certainly when they are still making more and more profit..
More like Apple continues on their vision and makes the best product (according to them) they can. If it's not a great product, people will stop buying them. Steve Jobs himself said this.
And Apple do learn if they have a dud. Ie. Ipod hi fi, first gen Apple TV, 1st gen MacBook Air, 3rd gen Ipod shuffle, etc. You don't just come out and make great products without trying and failing.

Relatively new iMacs were available 9 months ago.

We've had two quarters for solid to strong sales, the most recent quarter being the best. It's unlikely legacy MacBook Pro sales would sustain, increase sales one let alone two quarters out.

In an ideal world, I'm sure most would agree a decent yearly upgrade would be perfect, but since Intel does whatever it wants with chips and releases Apple just has to work around it so this is going to happen from time to time. No need to be a smartass about it :p

almost there. i have switched to linux in 12/2016 and indeed i am happy. ... it's so much fun to read what apple is doing when you are not affected anymore by all the "courage", haha ...

Yeah, you're so happy that you spend your free time posting on a Mac forum. Lol.
