I am on the verge of going for a Dell laptop... Just need to wait a few more days to see if Apple can sweep me off my feet.

Unless, of course, the current offering is a great solution for your needs. Personally, the new MacBook Pro was a welcome update to my old MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt 3 / USB C is the future I was waiting for.

Waiting on Intel to deliver chips on schedule and on spec is a fools game.

Of course I mean if you can wait.

What are the chances the iPhone 8 is USB-C and not lightning? Kindve a get out of jail free card for the new MBP...

Think it will cost alot to hand in my 2016 to apple and get the updated version?
Im not 100% happy with the performance of mine 2016..

Anybody else hoping for unsoldered internals like ssd, ram or battery?

Won't happen.
I'd love to have the possibility to upgrade at least the RAM, but it's is soldered even on the Mac mini so let's face the fact they won't give us the ability to upgrade the internals anymore on the laptops.

I still have my 2009 MBP, I upgraded the RAM and the storage and after almost 8 years it is still a good machine, my wife uses it and she doesn't complain about performances. CPU is important, but a fast storage and a good amount of RAM are even more important on everyday tasks.
I bought the model with less RAM and storage as I knew I would be able to change them in the future, now I'd have to spend €240 on the RAM update to get 16GB and the base model without TB goes to €2000, if I want more SSD to the price rises to €2200.
I spent about €1200 8 years ago for the base MBP model, prices are just too high nowadays and almost half of the increase is due to internal upgrades I need to pay immediately.

If it doesn't come with a bigger battery and much better keyboard I couldn't care less. Then again, I already moved to my hackintosh. Less than $600 for 1TB of SSD and 20h+ battery life. Eat that, Apple. And integrated ethernet, VGA, Displayport, etc.

I would just expect a bump in processor power maybe that new battery pack that was rumoured but not ready at the time of launch and possibly a price reduction.

Hopefully they fix previous errors:

They never will, as they'll never admit failure.
A computer company can't - and shouldn't - be run by people that declare the PC-era to be over.
That's an alarmingly wrong mindset to keep a cutting-edge tech company on the forefront.
Cook is and remains the wrong guy (whether or not selling a hundred millions iPhones while spending his time in whatever disability/diversity councils)
He shoudn't be able to fulfill his own evil prophecies - which are computer-hostile and have proven to be ludicrous, given the iPad's sales trends.
THIS TRAGEDY MUST COME TO AN END => LIBERATE US FROM THIS MAN
Oh - and also let Phil join him (as SVP of TouchBars or something)

ElementaryOS is about the worst incarnation of Linux around. There are better choices even, bog standard Ubuntu.
Elementary is probably a good name for it.

Fun fact: elementaryOS is ranked in top 10 on distrowatch (even before Arch Linux on #13), Ubuntu being #4. If you don't agree with the rest of the world, no worries ... just use whatever you like more. ;)

Just out of curiosity: what is the best distro, in your opinion?

Just like others here I'm frustrated with the current generation of Mac's. Luckily I'm still on my 2012 rMbp which more that meets my needs at the moment. However if I needed to upgrade I've no idea which direction to go within the Apple eco system just so dam expensive for what you get but hasn't Apple always been like this?

I can see myself replacing the battery at some point and keeping my current rMbp another three years.

If true, this is most certainly good news. I guess/hope Apple had a wake-up call. A better CPU and 64gb max memory is my guess on the changes.

Unfortunately, the meaningful changes most pros I speak with want—a true 10-12 hour battery, sd slot, full travel keyboard, all 4 full power USB-c ports, will not appear in this release, if ever.

Fingers crossed Apple is updating the MacBook and MacBook Air too. They are giving up too much competitive room by selling outdated technology at premium prices.

And of course, let's hope as part of this awaken at Apple, let's hope Apple is investing heavily in Mac software. Mac being a sub team of iOS software is a bad omen—just look at the mess that is preview.

But to conclude on a positive note, it's great Apple is doing an update so quickly. Sends a good message to market.

Not a hope, Apple has long left the serious professional space, Apple is solely about attracting the well heeled consumer. Even by Apple's own numbers there are so few utilising the Mac professionally, small wonder really...

Apple only values one thing $$$$, it may very well desperately want the kudos and halo effect that professionals bring to the table, equally Apple is clearly just churning out consumer focused hardware, albeit very well executed. Not even going to watch the upcoming Keynote, simply sick & tired of listening to Tim Cook & Co procrastinating on the Mac and Apple's professional users, it's just insulting. Apple want's my individual & business custom back Apple needs to stop talking & deliver...

Q-6

... that's weird. i thought that macbook is selling so INCREDIBLY well, why does it need an update after such a short period of time? ;-)

if it's true, i would be very happy if apple listens to people. i'm really, really curious.

This two things probably aren't mutually exclusive. Its probably more that they are able to put in the chips they would have liked last year.

Yeah somebody pointed that out already, and it totally makes sense ... Nevertheless i couldn't resist trolling a bit. ^^

almost there. i have switched to linux in 12/2016 and indeed i am happy. ... it's so much fun to read what apple is doing when you are not affected anymore by all the "courage", haha
Joining you soon. I'm already rocking a fresh KDE Neon install on my desktop PC. Still undecided on the notebook situation because my 2014 MBP is still quite powerful.
