Reduce the price and include a more powerful GPU!

Wonder what dGPU they're going to go with here.

It's a 35W TDP chip. There's no other option available. Not even from Nvidia. Apple wont redesign the case, they just released it and they cannot shoehorn anything stronger there...

Only thing they can do is lower the price. The Radeon Pro 460 is not a bad chip. For 35W, it's quite remarkable.

What I expect is that AMD will rebrand Pro 460 --> Pro 560 and lower the price.

For a supposedly high end laptop, MacBook Pro 15", the Radeon Pro 460M is an insult.

Thinner / lighter is NOT better.

Still it was quite an improvement to the previous Nvidia 750M and Radeon M370, the 45W hot chips... Radeon Pro 4xx are just too expensive (and there lies the insult).

But yes, sadly, Apple is trying to create the best thin laptops in the market. Power is less important factor...

Edit: ok, Nvidia has 940M, that has 33W TDP, but its a weak chip compared to Pro 460. 790GFLOPS vs 1740GFLOPS. Those numbers mean a lot in FCPX.

Better yet, update the 2015 chassis with Kaby Lake. Leaving all the ports, slots, and connections alone.
You are aware that MBP sales actually increased notably after the 2016 MBP release? By more than any previous processor-only (eg, the Broadwell) update? Maybe Apple would have sold even more MBPs if it had kept a USB-A port and the SD card slot in their 2016 MBPs. But only updating the processors would not have resulted in the same increased sales.

I've had this computer since January. Totally maxed out. Great computer expect for the loud popping sound it makes https://discussions.apple.com/message/31807888?ac_cid=tw123456#31807888

I think the school is still out if apple is planning to fix it or not. Read the thread. It's really annoying.

Apple has updated its online store to indicate that 15-inch MacBook Pro orders placed today are now estimated for free delivery between June 6-8 in the United States, coinciding with its Worldwide Developers Conference next week.

15-mbp-shipping.jpg

The delivery estimates lend credence to a report claiming Apple plans to announce new MacBook Pro and 12-inch MacBook models at the WWDC keynote on June 5. The notebooks are expected to receive internal improvements only, including an upgrade to Intel's faster Kaby Lake processors.

13-inch MacBook Pro models remain in stock for delivery as early as tomorrow in the United States and several other countries. It's unclear if that's because Apple plans to refresh only the 15-inch MacBook Pro next week, or if supplies of the 13-inch models are simply more plentiful ahead of WWDC.

Kaby Lake processors appropriate for a 13-inch MacBook Pro appear to be readily available, so a refresh shouldn't be ruled out.

Nevertheless, Apple has staggered the release of the MacBook Pro in the past. In 2015, for example, it released a 13-inch model in March, and a 15-inch model in May. In 2012, Apple unveiled the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display at WWDC in June, while a 13-inch model didn't launch until October.

A spot check shows 15-inch MacBook Pro delivery estimates are similarly as long in the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Italy, Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, and several other countries.

Apple last refreshed the MacBook Pro in October 2016, after the notebook went 527 days without being updated. By comparison, only 220 days will have passed if Apple launches new MacBook Pro models on June 5, below the average timeframe of 320 days between any two MacBook Pro generations.

(Thanks, Martin!)

2009. 13" MacBook Pro and the return of FireWire. :)
Minor quibble. The 2008 aluminum unibody (my first Mac) was a MacBook (no "Pro") without firewire. It became the MacBook Pro in 2009 with an addition of Firewire and I believe a more powerful CPU. The 2009 was the first 13 inch MacBook Pro--it was a "new" product." The 2008 Aluminum Unibody was killed and reverted to "unibody" polycarbonate (er...plastic).

So nothing was really "brought back" with the 2009 model.

There was huge pent up demand for an MPB after 500+ days without an update, myself included in that demand. It's not clear if though of that increase in sales came from 2015 or 2016 models (and if you have a reliable figure I'd be happy to see it). A lot of people who were waiting gave up and bought the 2015 after the 2016 came out. I was very tempted but couldn't bring myself to pay 2015 prices for an old machine, especially since I'm eligible for the free beats headphones and would have had to give that up by the time the 2016 models dropped, I certainly wasn't going to effectively pay $200 more for a machine 2 years later.

For me, the emojibar is a big negative but not a deal breaker. The new keyboard alone is a 100% deal breaker for me though, I actually spend hours a day typing on my laptop. Losing magsafe is a huge drawback, as is losing the ports. The 2015 is a more comfortable size for me as well, so the thinner frame is a drawback imo, it's just less comfortable to hold and handle. The soldered mass storage...so if the machine fails in any way, you can either lose your data or pay Apple through the nose to do a data recovery and pray they're able to. I don't think even Applecare+ includes recovering your data.

The new one feels like a cheaper machine, the overall build including the cheapie keyboard, losing the glowing mac logo, etc. It doesn't look or feel like a premium product like the 2015 model did.

Add to that the $500 price increase (or $200 increase for a cheaper CPU, all the drawbacks mentioned above, and no emojibar) and there is zero reason to buy the 2016. If I were forced to buy I'd take the no emojibar model because ask I said above, that's a feature imo. But them I'm paying more for a flat out inferior machine to the 2015 and I lose the 15" option.

Hoping a 15" WITHOUT Touchbar is one of the new options!
I and a lot of others feel this way. I can't STAND the Touchbar. It's the main reason I returned the one I bought.

There is no chance we see this, however. Apple isn't the kind of company that likes adding options or admitting mistakes.

It might include the new battery pack it was supposed to come with last time.

My thoughts as well.

Man, I would be so pissed off if I went all out and got a top spec 15" pro and then it's "out dated" 6 months later. Especially if they sort out stuff like the battery out.

Something else just changed on Apples website if you chose the base 15" MBP under the options for processors there is only 2.6 and 2.9 only 2 options I thought there were 3 option choices for Ghz where is 2.7?

I thought 2.7 was only available as standard with the upper model? Similarly with the AMD Pro 455. The base model has the 450 and you pay to upgrade straight to 460.

Back in late November my 2012 MBP 15" crapped out- the graphics card failed. I had wanted to wait for the Kaby Lake processors, but I needed a MBP immediately to keep working. I opted for the current 15" MBP with Touchbar, and bought several of the USB-C adaptors ($27 outlay). And you know what? I have been very happy with my new machine, it works great, runs fast, the new keyboard has a much better feel, works fine with all of my current peripherals, I really appreciate the Touch ID, the smaller form factor, and am getting used to incorporating the Touchbar into daily use. I am gathering that the Kaby Lake processors will offer improvements that would otherwise not make a noticeable difference for me. Anyone thinking that Apple will make major changes (including bringing back old slots/etc.) with this update are just dreaming...

Oh, and the best part? Apple repaired my 2012 MBP for FREE, because it was a known issue. They completely replaced the motherboard, so I was able to sell my old MBP for enough to significantly offset the cost of my new MBP.

Therefore, jump in and purchase a MBP once Coffeelake and all it's improvements make its way to the MBP. DDR4-2400Mhz, 15% bump in CPU and significant iGPU enhancements will be coupled in with better efficiency and 6 cores. In other words, Intel's largest CPU bump since 2012, with all the enhancements of KabyLake.
Unless, of course, the current offering is a great solution for your needs. Personally, the new MacBook Pro was a welcome update to my old MacBook Pro and Thunderbolt 3 / USB C is the future I was waiting for.

Waiting on Intel to deliver chips on schedule and on spec is a fools game.
