Yeah, looking forward to those benchmarks... Tho something that doesnt run under rosetta would be cool too....
PS. A lot of the intel imac folks found that the machine speeded up after the initial boots... (mine included). I put it down to spotlight indexing everything.

Good to note.

Its installing now; the hardest part was finding a damn USB cable to attach my Lacie drive (USB2/firewire 800), I had to scavenge one off my girlfriends printer :) The plan is:

Restart after install.
Run CS with benchmark image.
Run image again.
Restart CS and run benchmark
Restart machine, then CS, then benchmark
Add 2nd gig of ram, repeat!

10:21am - OH WOW. that magsafe connector is a strong magnet... way more so than i expected... good work.
10:22am - Nervous about temp... here goes...
10:23am - still booting...
10:24am - I think it just said something to me... "Thank you" maybe?? wtf..
10:26am - Setting up config of wizard and stuff...
10:27am - noticeably brighter display. :)
10:27am - OH GOD. i turned back around to laptop and i saw myself! that was scary.. i just woke up.. eek.. NO I WILL NOT TAKE A PHOTO OF MYSELF RIGHT NOW APPLE!
10:27am - no .MAC please. maybe something free.
10:29am - Downloading iLife suite updates...
10:31am - (still pissed I spilled my Cheerios... I'm hungry damnit!)

heck that is good enough for me. the brightness of screen on that pic implies that it can have even better battery life.

plus I keep hearing that LiPo batteries improve as it is used. I think 5 hour usage is not unreasonable.

I think it takes more like a few hours for spotlight to finish its indexing...
The extra ram will make a huge difference too, tho more to the feel of photoshop than the actual benchmarks... My inel imac pretty much ground to a halt with photoshop running under 512 MB. But with 1.5 Gigs, its all groovy.

My first MBP impression.

MACBOOK PRO is booting...

box is amazing. the sleeve that covers MBP is good enough to keep using.

the trackpad is huge. battery is large but not heavier.

updating itunes and ilife. screen is getting brighter.....from using other laptops I noticed that it takes a while to get it to the brightest screen when the notebook is cold.

at 86% remaining with MBP downloading ilife and itunes with the brightest screen setting, it still has 3:06 battery remaining. which means 3:30 or so on battery life with the normal setting.

Guys, I posted on the "MacBooks tricking in" thread with full tests. Basically about 60 seconds for every test I ran.

Spotlight isnt indexing, the icon pulses when it is indexing. I added no files to this machine yet, so there is no indexing to be done.

Only complaint: The screen is noisy unless at max brightness.

Well, noisy in relative terms, I can hear it. It makes no sound off or at full brightness. My apartment is relatively quiet right now, no music, so it isnt terrible, but it is the only noise coming from the machine.

hmm... it's true.. unless off or at max brightness i get this too... sigh. i guess i would rather have a laptop that did this than no laptop at all!

Wohoo..

Woooohoooo... Mine has finally shipped... :D :D :D

Ordered a 1,83GHZ (now a 2,0GHZ )CTO 7200RPM HD on January 11th.

But the tracking info is really confusing. Maybe someone can help me.

Seems to me as I've got two different packages. One of them (the Mighty Mouse and the Apple Keyboard) seem to be in the Netherlands already and for the Macbook Pro there seems to be no information available at the moment ???

Where can I track Flexlogistics packages?
This is too confusing..

But I am really happy nonetheless!! :D

whoever has MBP right now take a look at F9 and F10. what da heck is that button and why do I have to keep pressing fn to get to expose?

Can you post a picture?

Is there another symbol on the F9 and F10 keys? If they have another function, I believe you have to use the Fn keys to access the Function key functionality.

(just reading that again, I wish I could phrase it better..)

It's your keyboard backlight levels.

system prefs -> Keyboard and mouse -> Keyboard

tick use the F1-F12 keys to control software features

This will make the F keys act like a desktop, you will have to hold the Fn key to adjust brightness etc :)

BTW, i'm assuming this is the same on the Macbook as it is on my Powerbook, can't see any reason it wouldn't be

do you know how to disable that? i don't want to press function button to get expose'. that kinda sux.

and here comes my second impression....

I am using my Lacie D2 hard drive to import songs from there to my MBP. my MBP is 2.0ghz and my imac also is 2.0ghz. I am somehow noticing that transferring songs on MBP is a little bit faster.

about the screens....I used to have cinema displays and I do not think MBP screen is as bright as cinema display but it is close. it is bright to the extent that you can see without any problems with medium bright setting. that should save some good amount of batteries.

about hard drives....whatever junks are in there, my 100gb hard drive only has 75gb free. that's a disappointment. I am gonna have to delete some stuff from my iTunes.

and this notebook is not getting as hot as the PB i had before. this is with a full load of work in the process.
