FedEx states:
Regulatory agency clearance delay

WTF Does that mean!?

Duff-Man says....it means the shipment needs to be cleared through Customs....a normal thing, and it is beyond Apple's and FedEx's control....oh yeah!

 After all customs officers are on a quota of a certain amount of items so they stamp approved on 400-500 boxes in 3 or so hours then go and smoke for the rest of the 5 hours!

I don't think 2.0 orders have been bumped to 2.16 automatically. Originally it was 1.67 and 1.83, bumped to 1.83 and 2.0 respectively. Before the bump, there was no 2.0 version or 2.16 option at all. 2.16 is BTO.

thanks but I was more trying to simply find out what the deal was with people getting the 2.0's shipped while my 1.67 (aka 1.83) is not shipping yet.

Apple said that the 2.0s were getting shipped last week (and they were right, barely... they shipped on Saturday), and that the 1.83s are getting shipped this week.

we have asked this before so i figured size 7 font will get the needed attention!!

What was your estimated ship date?

Before the update and after?

I originally had an estimated ship date of February 15th. When the update happened my ship date got pushed back to Feb 28th with an estimated delivery of March 7th. So I'm getting my book before it was even "supposed" to have shipped. :)

I ordered a 1.83 that got bumped to a 2.0 at the update. It's a BTO - I downgraded from a single stick of RAM to two 512s. For what it's worth, I ordered through the University of Michigan Education store on Apple's site.

About 24 hours. (Please don't use fonts that big again. That's obnoxious when combined with all caps.)

The hold appeared on my credit card sometime Monday (2/20) morning, before 8 AM but after midnight. Apple's website showed 'shipped' at about midnight (i.e. 16-24 hours later.) I got the FedEx tracking number by 3 AM (this morning.) (All times Pacific Standard Time.)

FedEx shows that it left Shanghai at 3:18 PM Shanghai time 2/21, due to arrive 10:30 AM local time Friday (2/24.) Apple offered an upgrade to 2-3 day shipping when I called to complain about the delay, so I don't know if I'm getting it sooner than someone who kept 'standard' shipping.

First Time Mac Owner

Hi everyone!
This is my first Mac - I'm tired of PC's and Mac's are the computer of choice in my program at school...so when they came out with a new laptop I jumped at the offer!

Anyways, my question is: I know not alot is known about the battery life or anything, but for all you previous Mac owners, any advice on how I should charge it up/down the first few times when I receive it for optimal performance?

Thanks!

Calibrating Your Battery
To get the longest running time from your battery, calibrate it sometime during the first week you have your MacBook Pro and repeat these steps occasionally to keep your battery functioning at its fullest capacity.
To calibrate your battery:

1) Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your MacBook Pro battery until the light on the power adapter plug changes to green and the Battery icon in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
2) Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for two hours or longer. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
3) Disconnect the power adapter with the MacBook Pro on and start running it from the battery. You may use your computer during this time.
When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
4) Continue to keep your computer turned on until it goes to sleep. Save your work and close all applications when the battery gets low and before the system goes to sleep.
5) Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or longer.
6) Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.

Important: Repeat the calibration process occasionally to keep your battery fully functioning. If you use your MacBook Pro infrequently, it’s best to recalibrate the battery at least once a month.
If you purchased additional batteries, follow the calibration procedure with those batteries as well. For more battery information, see “Using Your Battery” on page 77.

Got mine... But I noticed a few interesting things...

(1) How do you activate the optical digital output? Specifically for Dolby Digital on DVD playback.

(2) There is a "High Defnition" tab in the DVD player settings. Anybody know anything about this? Is it for upconversion, or is it for HD-DVD? I think this has been put in for the next Mac Mini as a media center...

UPDATE: It appears that they shipped the first indication of HD-DVD. On this tab, they list:

- For Standard Def
- actual height
- disc default
- For High Def
- actual size
- 720p
- 1080i

Hybrid Discs:
Play
- Standard Def
- High Def
- Always Ask

This sounds like HD-DVD to me, although no discs are out yet and I thought we need a new drive. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

UPDATE 2:

Just checked my Mac Mini which has been updated to 10.4.5. The DVD player is the same version (4.6.5) but the HD stuff is completely missing. Did Apple accidentally let something out of the bag? I did notice that one of the two formats (HD-DVD or BluRay) was supposed to launch this week. Perhaps Apple's surprise is that HD-DVD works out of the box on the new Intel products, maybe we all have HD-DVD drives?

One more question -- should I expect PPC Toast to work on this thing?

Apple supports Blu Ray. Microsoft supports HD DVD. Answered.

I did the calibration of battery

I did exactly what Apple told owners to do to calibrate the battery (full charge + 2 hour idle followed with complete drain + 5 hour sleep and then full charge again).

with the lighting at the highest possible (my eyes are burning) and the continuous internet loading (nonstop), I get exactly 3 hours. mind you that I keep on loading pages at the highest brightness level. it isn't too bad.

if I set it at the medium lighting level, I get about 3 hour 25 minutes.

this was an improvement from the first full charge, which gave me 2 hour 40 minutes vs. 3 hour 25 minutes I am getting. and as I am typing this I am getting more minutes rather than decrease (this might be due to the fact that I stopped refreshing and reloading internet....)

assuming nobody continuously load internet for 3 hours, for normal usage I would say about 3 hour 40 minutes or so (with lighting half on and some internet surfing). since I just use laptop for notetaking at the law school, I wouldn't be surprised if I can get 4 hours on this thing. that should be good enough.

I'm new to the forums, so I don't know how to post thumbnails, but...
