Hopefully they’ve fixed the inherent issues with scissor switches if they’re going back to them. Otherwise, I’ll have to grab the last MBP with butterfly switches and hold onto it until they figure something else out.
What were the issues with the scissor switches?

The 13-inch might move to Comet Lake-U. Ice Lake simply isn’t available in volume.

Maybe by Tiger Lake, Intel will unify the line-up towards 10nm, but it looks like that’ll have to wait until 2021.
Agreed. The 13” Pro is one of Apple’s best sellers. Other OEMs like HP and Dell target the Ice Lake PCs mostly to enterprise.

Apple has a trade in program:

TIL; thanks.

That would be a very controversial move and I don’t personally think Face ID on a laptop is desirable.

Fair. I'd happily settle for a much better webcam, however.

I have admittedly been waiting on this for a while, my 13" 2.6ghz core i5 with integrated graphics, 8gig of ram and 120gig SSD have been waiting to be upgraded for quite a while. I was going to build a new editing workstation (4k video) but I simply travel too much now and must remain mobile. I'll be pulling the trigger at the end of January if:

The Keyboard is fixed
The performance is improved
It has actual ports that people use (I can bend on this)
The battery life remains stellar
I don't have to offer organs to own one

It will cost you two kidneys..
If you are serious with your mobile editing workstation I suggest go for PC gaming laptop. latest desktop grade rtx 2070 gpu, 32gb ram , 1 tb nvme ssd and it only cost me 1 kidney. however you will have to carry a huge 230 watts power brick because lets admit it if you want power performance then it needs a lot of raw power to drive it :).

This is welcome news. Not because I want this one - it would be overkill for me - but because it means we are finally (hopefully) about to see a return to a fully reliable keyboard that will trickle down to the Air sometime next year.

What were the issues with the scissor switches?
Primarily stability. They wobble when pressed on the side of the key. The butterfly switch gives a nice, consistent click no matter where your finger lands on the key. Go to 4:35 of this video for Apple’s explanation:
It’s what sold me on the 12” MacBook.

Nice click. And sometimes the key press even registers. Sometimes even twice.

Certainly a lot of innovation in the MacBook. I’m not convinced that key wobble was the driving factor in the design of the keyboard though. They wanted a thin keyboard to make the MacBook thinner than the air with a view of it being the laptop of choice for those who need portability above all else. I think the iPad has become that device now. Almost expect them to release an iPad with the same keyboard and touch pad and call it MacBook 2.

Bet on "MacBook Pro Max" name
MacBook Pro xdr for the win 😉

The truth is, there is no 10th gen H series. It is very obvious that 16 inch MBP will have what 15 inch MBP has. You gotta expect 5th gen MBP with 10th gen Intel CPU.
I wouldn't get too hung up on 10th gen anyway as it's still going to be 14nm for H series (11th gen is very likely to as well, comet lake and rocket lake respectively).

Woah! The sure do. I stand corrected then. I have a 2017 15" and they definitely didn't offer that at the time or I would've gladly sprung for it. I'm guessing they added that option in one of the refreshes since then?

Yup, they added it in 2018

Still, I will buy one of these the minute they launch if I could put 64 gigs in a BTO option. I do lots of different but demanding work across each operating system, software development, and video/photo editing, and I need a machine that can take it all in stride.

If they do that, don’t expect the option to be below $1k. ;)

when there is cause for complaint
complaining repeatedly because time after time a company's product releases don't meet your personal expectations is kind of stupid, IMO.

I don't mean "the trash can is too limited". I mean, e.g. the complaints in every thread since 2016 about how multiple 40Gbps ports isnt "pro" enough, and that what supposed "pro" users really want is a <checks notes> SD card slot, limited to at the very best, USB2 speeds. Ok. Sure. That makes sense..

That is truly the best case scenario.
The picture is of a 13inch MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air so not sure we should place too much stock in that image. In fact in the amazon link there is a picture saying it is only comparable with the air lol
According to the reddit post, this is how they usually work around the embargo. Notice all the placeholders in the description: Axxxx
SLEO High Quality Plastic Hard Case Series
Designed to fit 2019 MacBook Pro 16''
This case only fits Model number: Axxxx

Could be. Obviously I’m not privy to the inner workings of Apple’s design decisions. I just know that, for me, the butterfly switches fixed my #1 complaint about scissor switches. I recognize that I may be in the minority on that.
