Scissor Keyboard

That's it. I just want a decent keyboard that doesn't hurt to type on for long periods of time again. Bonus if the top GPU option is available on the i7 model, and if the screen has 120hz.

They are not using the same chassis. 16 inch MBP is slightly bigger.

Has someone leaked the chassis dimensions?

All the rumors I have seen said it will use the existing chassis - hence a slightly larger screen to fill in the area formerly masked off for bezels. Assuming the scissor-switch keyboard needs a bit more depth, they will likely be re-arranging the location of the mainboard and battery packs to accommodate.

I think Apple have "consicously-uncoupled" there refresh cycle from intel's. So from Apple perspective I think that they view this machine not to be new because of a chipset, but because of all the other features. Probsabyl therer will be3 silent updates whenever next chipset comes out.

I, for one, hope for a 60 core A13-based design with 20 hour battery life. A13 has 6 cores so that's only 10 A13's and each of those has a TDP of 1W.... 10W TDP vs 45 on the i9....

Oh and it'll definitely cost $5,000... named the Pro MacBook Pro or PMP for short.

Here’s hoping they have a newer generation of Intel chips... 9th gen will be replaced within the next 3 months with every other manufacturer, couldn’t imagine paying the 5,000 AUD+ for a topspec Mac with a chipset that’s going to be outdated so soon.

There are no newer generation Intel ships than what Apple currently uses. Comet Lake-H will most likely not be announced until April 2020 around this date (12th) which is 6 months away. There is nothing particularly exciting about these new CPUs other than a 10-core version - https://www.fudzilla.com/news/pc-hardware/49427-comet-lake-h-and-s-are-going-to-disappont

Quoting the article, “The bootlog reports the CPU boosting to 4.4 GHz, slower than the Core i9-9880H and Core i9-9980HK. Essentially they look like re-bodied Core i9-9880H or Core i9-9980HK.” Ten-cores, yes, but probably closer to 2.2GHz, maybe slower.

If you really think tomorrow’s MacBook Pro, wait for the Comet Lake-H update year around WWDC 2020.

If the placeholder artwork in Catalina is correct, it’s a slightly larger chassis...someone did a side by side and it isn’t just 16” crammed into a 15” chassis.

It actually makes less sense. A phone sits out of view in your pocket until you want to use it. A laptop sits in the open. From a security point of view, if you are using this device in public or in an open plan office, if you want to conceal your work when someone comes to talk to you then it wouldn’t be a great feature for the screen to unlock at your presence.
Oh and the lid is too thin to accomodate the camera 😉

Better screen is my guess coupled with the ability to drive the xdr display at full res. Hence higher wattage and slightly larger chassis.
Yes, better screen. I am betting they will amp the nits and make it capable of displaying HDR (or whatever Apple Marketing is going to call HDR) and they'll also improve the speakers. Keyboard improvements will be there, but understated.

They will call it the "most pro Mac portable ever made."

starting at 2400...ouch.

only just got my MacBook Air and will certainly enjoy this for at least the next 5 years.

Are we expecting just an announcement, or that these would actually show up at stores tomorrow?

Don’t hold your breath. This machine is about alignment with the Mac Pro/xdr
Now we're talkin'!

The LAST thing we need is Apple wasting time on another computer hardware update when we are anxiously awaiting the AR/VR glasses. Get your priorities straight Apple! Just think with those glasses we can VR the notch on our phones away!

Agreed..
Also, how is the Car coming?

Will I be able to watch Apple TV+ inside my Apple Car - maybe at least when parked?

Hopefully there is an AirPower mat built in somewhere for my Apple AR glasses, Airpods Pro and iPhone to charge up as well!

Let's get focused here Apple..

Right. It’s lipstick (Comet) on lipstick (Coffee Refresh) on lipstick (Coffee) on lipstick (Kaby Refresh) on lipstick (Kaby) on a pig (Skylake). And that’s not even counting the weird sidesteps like Amber and Whiskey.

Let’s see if Tiger Lake or Rocket Lake ever make it to H.

I still don't see the new 16" providing 3-4 times as much value as a mid-2015 15", which goes for about $1k refurbished.

NTM Dell is providing touchscreens and OLEDs, and has been doing a bezel as thin as the 16" for years.

I believe in the early '10s Apple justified the premium pricing, but I don't know if it's true anymore.

If you’re doing video editing or anything GPU intensive, the answer is yes.

Comparing a brand new MacBook Pro to a 4 year old is dubious at best. I have a 2015, but it is relegated to general business tasks now.

Sure, Dell has OLED, but their battery life is crap -

The smart money says no...at this point, the 15w and 28w Ice Lake-U get the benefit of the LPDDR4 controller, built in Thunderbolt, Wi-Fi 6 and Iris Gen11 iGPU at the expense of clock speed and any meaningful compute increases over 8th or 9th Gen, so at least the 13” MacBook Pro may get a boost and allows Intel to skate buy while they fumble around with 14nm++++++ and *cough*ramp up*cough* 7nm.

Seriously? It’s a very well known marketing tactic that practically every consumer industry uses.

Of all the things to complain about.
Don’t worry I’ll be buying their beautiful stand at only “nine ninety nine”

Gosh, what's the point of making 16 inch if it's too similar to 15 inch?

There was a time when the only difference between one machine and its successor was a change from 4.7MHz to 8MHz.

Progress is the point.

Bigger chassis if you believe the icon leak and assume the keys didn’t change size.

They already offer 32, so why wouldn’t they on the new model?
Woah! The sure do. I stand corrected then. I have a 2017 15" and they definitely didn't offer that at the time or I would've gladly sprung for it. I'm guessing they added that option in one of the refreshes since then?

Still, I will buy one of these the minute they launch if I could put 64 gigs in a BTO option. I do lots of different but demanding work across each operating system, software development, and video/photo editing, and I need a machine that can take it all in stride.

Sensor array would make the lid too thick.

Just put a darn camera bump on it already. The bump could go on the front (and recess into the body), could go on the back, or a bit of both. I'm sure they won't do that, but it's totally possible if they thought the feature were sufficiently important. Perhaps if Dell and Lenovo roll out successful imitators that people like...

That would be a very controversial move and I don’t personally think Face ID on a laptop is desirable.

FaceID would be great, but if not that then I'd at least like to see a better webcam. I can't believe that 720p is as good as it gets. Then again a lot of PC laptops have the same, so maybe that is as good as it gets.

Hopefully they’ve fixed the inherent issues with scissor switches if they’re going back to them. Otherwise, I’ll have to grab the last MBP with butterfly switches and hold onto it until they figure something else out.
