People also forget a lot of PC's are made of plastic so they can put the WIFI antennas in more places in the case body. if you want 2x2 or 4x4 you are going to need more spots for antenna locations, like along the edge of the screen because the mac is made of metal not good for radio, that is why it has a bezel and also for a webcam. I care more about better WIFI then a no bezel screen.
While I like the design of the Macs, that could be handled differently... Especially when the MacBooks don't even have an option for integrated 4G -which is actually a shame.

My serious hope (that might be hinted at by the 10% increase in charging brick wattage) is to see ProMotion. It's already in the iPad PRO, it's rumored to reach the successor of the iPhone 11 PRO, so put it into the most pro of the MacBook PRO's and it could be considered a pro feature, which I'd say it actually is. I've thought about it, and I have no clue where that extra power would be going besides a more robust display controller to handle twice as many frames. (The rumored 5500m GPU pulls the same amount of power as the Vega 20 so it likely isn't that, and the fact that the brick isn't just 100w makes me think it isn't just for generally faster charging.)

If you throw in more or larger fans you will need more power.

Just for the records: that would be a rather easy thing to do... Assuming the panel can handle 120Hz, the GPU certainly can, at least in desktop use. And the embedded Display Port could handle Variable Refresh Rates before AMD/nVidia came up with stuff like g-Sync/FreeSync. However, in that case it was mostly intended for power saving. Anyway: High Refresh Rate is nothing new on the x86 market...

EDIT: Sauce here: https://www.anandtech.com/show/8008...andard-variable-refresh-monitors-move-forward (highy recommend to read)

Unless you live here in Seattle. ;)

People have been complaining for years about the thickness of the bezels compared to certain PC laptops so Apple seems to finally be taking their criticism to heart. :p

The rumors have been pretty consistent that Apple will return to the scissor-switch mechanisms for the keyboard.

Then why not making bezel-less 15 inch instead of 16 inch?

Maybe they will introduce something new to the line like a name at the end to justify a higher price tag. MacBook Pro Plus or somesuch. They might tout how they listen to their customers by changing the keyboard. And they might put a few more chips in the display and the battery to make those parts harder to replace by 3rd parties.

Happy to be on the sidelines for this launch...jumped on a 15 MBP Touchbar at launch and well, we all know how that went...subpar keyboard, tongle life, crummy battery life, useless touchbar & spent a fortune :apple:

the Navi gpu [5500m most likely] is similar to a 1650 so nothing to get excited about.
OK but still need that egpu for gaming.
Don't speak too soon, notebookcheck (forum didn't want me to post the link) is saying the card preforms somewhere near a 1660Ti, meaning 2060 Max-Q performance in everyday tasks, and better optimized cases like Metal engine applications could be seeing 2070-like performance. It's a huge upgrade from Vega 20.

A word about price:
I am giving Apple back my MBP pro that is a 2016 version. I am getting $995 - no ebay fees, no headaches...done.

That is only 60% depreciation for nearly FOUR years of use. No other electronic on the planet comes close to that.....the Total cost of ownership is WAY less than the list price.

It‘s funny how things work differently in different places. Saw your post and out of curiosity i checked how much Apple would offer me for my 2015 15“ base model (excellent condition, bought mid 2016) here in Austria. Well, they offered to recycle it free of charge! 😜

No big deal as I am perfectly happy with this machine (that cost me around 2.100 Euros including taxes) an as I currently have no reason to replace it but I find it funny nonetheless! 👍🏽

Why would they not use Face ID? Makes a lot more sense than Touch ID in a laptop.
It actually makes less sense. A phone sits out of view in your pocket until you want to use it. A laptop sits in the open. From a security point of view, if you are using this device in public or in an open plan office, if you want to conceal your work when someone comes to talk to you then it wouldn’t be a great feature for the screen to unlock at your presence.
Oh and the lid is too thin to accomodate the camera 😉

Gosh, what's the point of making 16 inch if it's too similar to 15 inch?
Better screen is my guess coupled with the ability to drive the xdr display at full res. Hence higher wattage and slightly larger chassis.

It'll be funny if it's just slightly increased screen (retina pro plus XDR GTX max with bacon) BUT still batterfly AND untouched touch bar (to provide the best consistent experience among all our devices) AND still no ports. Grabbing my popcorn.

FWIW, several higher end custom configurations for Mid 2019 15" MBP have slipped to 2-4+ weeks for drop shipments from authorized resellers.

Here’s hoping they have a newer generation of Intel chips... 9th gen will be replaced within the next 3 months with every other manufacturer, couldn’t imagine paying the 5,000 AUD+ for a topspec Mac with a chipset that’s going to be outdated so soon.

Don’t hold your breath. This machine is about alignment with the Mac Pro/xdr or else there is no reason to do it.

So they heard presumably heard people on wanting a physical ESC key but they didn't care about all the people who do not want a touchbar. They've had the option to not have one on the 13". Not sure why they dont offer that option for the other models.

Mark Gurman just tweeted this article - some new details:

The 16-inch MacBook Pro will replace the current 15-inch model, which starts at $2,399. The new laptop will cost about the same and is expected to go on sale this week, the people said.[\QUOTE]

I hope they're right as I need to replace a MBP via insurance claim. However, I'll believe it when I see it as the rumours have been jerking us around the last few weeks.

The truth is, there is no 10th gen H series. It is very obvious that 16 inch MBP will have what 15 inch MBP has. You gotta expect 5th gen MBP with 10th gen Intel CPU.
