Looks like they will have 3 stock configs, 2 base models + 1 high-end config:
2.4GHz 8‑core, 32GB, AMD 5500M 8GB, 2TB SSD (not in stores until the 27th)
My university (BYU) had a sale yesterday that was announced weeks ahead of the launch. Somehow I was able to pick up the base model for $2099 tax free.
I plan on a five year useful life. Won’t even consider the 6-core, $5/month well spent.i see that in stock today at one store nearby.
shame really, the cpu upgrade definitely isn't worth it. The ram and gpu are, and I might have splurged on the ssd, but the cpu pushes it over the limit
From what I've herd, it feels almost identical to the Majic Keyboard that is available with the iMacI think they will. Curious to see if 1mm of travel is the same as a 2015 MBP.
Improvements across the board would mean a better (not just slightly bigger) display and 802.11ax W-Fi, neither of which happened. It's nice to see Apple executives finally realize it's no longer 2012 when it comes to SSD storage, though...An improved product across the board with 2x more base storage at no additional cost. Is Tim Cook alive and well??
No glowing logo, no go.
Blame Intel for the Wi-Fi AX thing, and the screen is technically better. The 15 inch has 220 PPI, this 16 inch has 226 PPI. Yes, its a small difference, but its a difference, so you can't say they didn't improve the display. Also, going to 3 better microphones, 6 speakers instead of 2, 11 hours of battery instead of 10, 2600 DDR4 RAM instead of 2400, up to 8TB instead of 4, and adding an escape key and better keyboard. Literally the only thing that didn't change is the CPU and the webcam.Improvements across the board would mean a better (not just slightly bigger) display and 802.11ax W-Fi, neither of which happened. I miss the start up sound, but now that the Apple logo appears as soon as you open the lid makes it almost stupid to have it. But, I hope the new Mac Pro has it, mainly because if you install a new graphics card, its important that if your displays ar not working, there is an auditory indication that the computer is starting....about this glowing logo thing (about which some people seem at least semi-serious).
The glowing logo was just a translucent panel that let the LCD backlight shine through. (Hold your old MacBook up to a bright light and you'll see a ghostly Apple logo glowing on the front of the screen). Neat hack.
Has it ever occurred to anybody that maybe the new P3 500nit panels simply might have a more opaque backing (putting in a more reflective back layer seems like step #1 to making a brighter display) so this approach just wouldn't work?
Now, killing the startup chime and the lack of any power on indication (touch bar?) is another issue...
Same here, but I could use an upgrade. I'm using a 2016 13 inch, with the base CPU, and only 8 gigs of ram, with a 512 GB SSD. It is starting to show its limitations. Plus, the battery is terrible, and I've had the keyboard replace twice, and had several other problems with the keyboard. This laptop looks really nice! I wish I needed a new laptop. But my 2017 MBP is still working great; it's been a real workhorse over the last two years.
You may be technically correct (as you would be if it'd gone from 220 to 221 PPI), but 220 to 226 PPI is not what I'd call an improvement. It's more of a horizontal move, simply taking the 15" and making it bigger.Blame Intel for the Wi-Fi AX thing, and the screen is technically better. The 15 inch has 220 PPI, this 16 inch has 226 PPI. Do they have them on display? I’d like to try out the keyboard before I pull the trigger.
Some people don't want to put $3000 in limbo while they try a computer, especially with how natorious Apple is at denying in-warranty repairs. I'm sure returns are just as challenging. You can always return if you are unsatisfied.
I think they will. Curious to see if 1mm of travel is the same as a 2015 MBP.
On the German Apple site they list it as the 16" MBP. Shouldn't they use metric and call it the 41cm MBP?
If you need to trade your car in for one of these... you probably should be getting one.I'll be trading in my car for one of these right way.
It's still a little bit less, more like the new magic keyboard (2) so I think it should feel fine as that's a widely lauded typing experienceI think they will. Curious to see if 1mm of travel is the same as a 2015 MBP.
I would spring for this except for the fact that I'm already loaded up on newish Apple gear. And yet.....SO tempting!

Literally everyone is sort of disappointed with Tim Cook and let's hope it can learn from its mistake.

I order 3 seconds after it popped up on the Apple website. Mater of fact when i was looking a configurations i opened up another window it would not let me in. I knew this was going to be a popular model and wanted to order mine ASAP. I asked for the express shipping with my configuration. When have you placed your order? I meant the 2.4 vs 2.3 8 coreI plan on a five year useful life. Won’t even consider the 6-core, $5/month well spent.
