So to recap, what we have so far:
  • 16" screen, most likely 16.4" 3072 by 1920 with identical pixel density as 15" (which is 2880 by 1800 15.4")
  • Thinner bezel but larger footprint than 15" MacBook Pro
  • Escape key, possibly no more Touch Bar
  • New scissor key mechanism (not butteryfly)
  • Most likely the same 9th generation Intel Coffee Lake processor as current 15" MacBook Pro (so no Wi-Fi 6 as Wi-Fi 6 is a 10th gen feature)
  • 96W charging (up from 87W)
Aside from the keyboard and larger screen, it looks like a minor upgrade overall. Unless Apple surprises us with more ports, XDR, or Face ID.

I think that they will keep the touch bar and the touch-ID on the laptop otherwise I think that your points are valid.

You think they'll replace the 15 inch with this one and make a new 14 inch to replace the 13 inch?
most likely.

So what can we expect from Apple? A little unicorn told that this time Apple will present a totally awesome product! There will be a new trademark labeling it as ‘true wireless‘ with no more physical ports at all introducing the wireless thunderbolt and true Qi charging first time seen on a laptop.
The awesome butterfly keyboard will be replaced with TouchKey(tm) expanding the Touchbar to the whole area so you can see live Animojis while typing.

Fourth, behind iPhone, Watch, iPad, with the AppleTV, HomePod and the iPod touch coming in DEAD last.
Surely the Apple TV ranks ahead of the Mac mini. Apple TV has become Apple's HTPC offering, a role that used to belong to the mini.

Mac as a HTPC - no longer a priority. Mac as a server - no longer a priority. It's kind of surprising the Mac mini got a refresh at all, despite the fact that it took four years because it was so far down the list of priorities and Apple had to justify it with a massive price increase (with lackluster Core i3 + 128 GB on the base model).

-Matte black option, different silver and space gray tones.
-Angled lower chassis like the Air.
-Rounded edges in the front.
-Camera shutter
-Lit Apple logo, color selectable
-Touch screen option
-2 in 1 option

If the 16" Macbook Pro doesn't have FaceID, then it's a no sale for me.

Not going to happen. The lid will have to be at least 2-3x thicker to fit the camera module. Why do you think it has such a sh*tty webcam. They can't fit anything else.

^I fear that's true. They were able to update the webcam in the iMac Pro because it's a desktop. But somehow I don't think the webcam in the MBP will ever be updated unless webcam/FaceID technology changes so that such a camera module could fit it in thin lid of the MBP.

Are you serious? In the stock photos they all use that blue Tiger photo. Each device icon is that same design. Have you never dig through the system libraries to find all the Mac icons?

You don't even need to do that. Apple menu -> About This Mac -> Displays

"All new design" :D

You know better than that!. My bet is a new display type, and this is as close as they could get to being the same size as the old one.

Im still hopeful this is a branch off the macbook tree, rather than a replacement for the existing one.

And i think it is more a Macbook Sans pro. Just because the display is 16" doesnt mean it is a better display!

(The hint of no touch bar has me all excited! I am probably tricking myself, so i guess i will try to enjoy the delusion as long as possible!)

What would be the right thing to do, is to make a version of the new keyboard that is backward compatible. But that would be more about customer satisfaction and pure cost no profit, so not going to happen.

New keyboard design will be their “selling point”, and they will hold back a fresh new design for version 2.0.

Happens all the time at Apple! Still, for some, that might be enough to purchase.

A new KB (and maybe a touchbar with a PHYSICAL Esc key not part of it) would be enough for me. More screen real estate and any other improvements will just be gravy.

I could wish for a return of maglock power cord, though I know we're not getting it.

Come on Apple - you'll get my $4K or so (depending on the configs offered) + a new iPadPro for Side Car use and I'll be fully "back in the ecosystem" again. Even an iPhone (I was starting to lose faith when the Mac neglect set in and so happy you're paying attention again), and when they get more medical functions, a watch.

Adobe and Office 360 will get new subscribers. And more.

Take my money! All of you! Lots of us are past ready already.

So how are Windows laptops able to implement login via facial recognition?

Either Apple is toying with us or some developer is toying with the rumor sites. Even if that is the actual design of the new product, that is not the screenshot its going to be displayed with in the final release.

May be the hardware team inside Apple does not want to show the design of the final product to the software teams.
I agree. A likely scenario is some graphics person did a quick mockup and the rumor mill goes wild. MacRumors reacts to anything from Apple like the Russian hands did whenever the Kremlin released a photograph. The tiniest detail fuels rampant speculation and opinions on the product’s supposed strengths and flaws.

still same bezels just slightly smaller at the top, this isn't what I expected
Are smaller bezels the main thing you were looking for? I think many of the rest of us were looking for a better keyboard, more ports and better serviceability (you know, Pro things), and more thermal headroom, to make throttling less of a thing.

Here’s to hoping they can begin to put this keyboard fiasco behind them.
Can you imagine the cheering if Tim got up on stage and said, "you know what? We think the keyboard we had five years ago was the best keyboard ever, so, we're switching back to it."?

Give me a high refresh screen over the OLED! But I hope they use a decent facetime camera and new back camera, as these have been lacking for years. Throw in an eSim and we'll have a truly Pro machine here.
