I love the Touch Bar. Makes way more sense than a touch screen display. Hope they improve it for macOS.
The biggest thing people hate about the touch bar, is the removal of physical esc and function keys. Maybe the best solution to make everyone happy would be to have both. Bring back the row of fn keys, and put a touch bar above it.

I just got a new job and they issued 15" macbook pros with touchbars. JESUS CHRIST. What a colossal waste of time. I'm glad these are side machines because I would die if I had to actually use the laptop for more than 5 minutes a week. I'm happy with my new personal iMac purchase and I guess I'll keep waiting for a good macbook pro.
I’ve been hoping and praying for this since it was announced. May just end up getting the new XPS 15 since I could use a new spec machine

Why doesn’t it have FaceID ??? it’s going to have all of the apple drm ”security” and irreplaceable hard drives. They really don’t want to port the best use case of faceID to macOS :(

From a design point of view, it does make the power button more clear. It would be interesting to see how the other side looks because a physical ESC key could balance it out visually and it would be better for people who use the option+apple+esc combination frequently.

I'd like to see a better webcam or FaceID too, but the lid would have to be a lot thicker for that to work (as I understand it).

A million times this. I can't believe my $6000 MacBook Pro has a 720P webcam. There's easily the tech out there for a webcam thin enough for the lid of the computer with at least 1080P. Although at this point, they should jump to 4K.

Don’t think we need a 15 and 16 inch.
I agree! However, initially i had thought that maybe Apple would introduce the 16“ featuring a new design (display similar to the current ipad pro with rounded corners, FaceId with/without notch and so on) as the new flagship laptop in order to demonstrate their refreshed design language. In this context it might have made sense to add it to the current lineup.

But if the images that were found in the current Catalina builds indeed show the new 16“ model, this theory is out of the window and all I can hope for is a separate esc-key in addition to touch-id sensor which seems to be detached from the touch bar.

Currently I have a 2015 15“ MBP which I bought just before the refresh in 2016 and to me it still is a great machine! As it looks now, I might hold on to it until it breaks down.

Doesn't seem to be any room in the current lid design - maybe when they change the design language next they will make the lid part 'boxier' (think Razer blade) by removing the taper towards the edge to make enough room for it to be included. Personally don't see the need though, Touch ID is already convenient enough for logging in the handful of times per day you need to.

Context sensitive macros. We have tons of them. They are quicker and easier to use than moving hands/focus to the mouse/screen. I never used macros before the Touchbar, now I use them all the time.
Honestly, I tried and I found that it is always slower than keyboard shortcuts or simply consistently using your trackpad/mouse. The problem is that I have to disrupt my workflow by looking at it. That is usually way slower than just confidently hit a key, say in photoshop. Sure, you have to learn the keyboard shortcuts in order to use them, which may be a slight obstacle for some people, but I guess for most power users that is absolutely self-understood. For more casual users I can see the benefit though.

I use the TouchBar all the time, I can program it for specific functions in the apps I use, mostly under Parallels and running Visual Studio etc. Yes, Visual Studio for Mac exists, no it isn't as good as Visual Studio for Windows. I will take a look at the options for those macros, thanks!
A physical Escape key would be a win win if that pans out. But the TouchBar is great imo.

*IF* the MPB16 is released *AND* it has a keyboard with more travel + reliability, then Im in. I currently have the late 2016 MBP and I hate the travel on the keys, but luckily not had any reliability problems. I use mine about 10 hours a day, less at weekends.

1) No thanks (and it’s extremely unlikely) 2) doubtful since it would have to be optional, but it’s possible 3) please dear God, no. Luckily, there’s 0% chance.

agree on all three and don't miss any of them really, although a matt screen wouldn't be ignored.

I really hope this computer gets released soon. If there is no new GPU though I am off, had enough with this uncompetitive AMD rubbish. I need something in the MBP that is similar or better to the RTX 2060 at least [an egpu is great but not very portable]

Come on Apple, drop the goodies.

With any luck there might be a hardware Escape key. Regardless, they ruined the OS with Mojave, so it's Windows from here on out.

I'm curious what you find so offensive about Mojave? It's been pretty solid for me - I'm sitting out Catalina until maybe very late in the game as yeah, that one does sound like more hassle than it's worth.

Just to add up, all but the base config of the 15" are now delayed to the 12th for in-store pickup. Yesterday most of them were available to pick in the same day or on friday. Good news I guess?

I guess that dashes any remaining shred of hope they would be merciful and supplant the whole 15" line at once (not that there ever was much hope of that).

Maybe he meant Catalina.

Mojave is good, Mojave is OS that you can rely on 100 percent. I will be using it until I am forced to upgrade.

Tried Catalina, and it didn't last a week. First thing, UI fonts look horrible on anything that isn't Retina. Second, no iTunes, which means no Internet radio without having to download the app for that. And third...I do not need anything new Catalina has to offer, so...Mojave it is. For two more years, at least.

I like a TouchID that is separate.. You get too attached to it with the TouchBar. However the 'mti' function button TouchID/power button always puzzled me.

I can only guess he must have. Yep I'm very satisfied with Mojave, If 10.16 looks good I'll probably stick with it right through until this time next year. Likewise Catalina doesn't bring anything to the table that makes me want to upgrade, my 2015 mac doesn't support sidecar, breaking up iTunes and removing 32 bit support aren't 'features', just changes, and by all accounts the performance & stability is no better, possibly slightly worse. Maybe screen time could be interesting but certainly not essential.

Not my store, many configs are available. All BTOs available via shipping in less than a week, except the 4 TB SSD which takes an extra couple weeks. Any 4TB config delays the build.

Question for all of you...

When the 16" MBP is released, the base models usually ship right away.

Generally, how long is the delay for those of us that up the RAM and the SSD?
