Apple has seeded a new build of the OS X Mavericks Golden Master to developers, a little more than two weeks after the first GM seed. According to 9to5Mac, the build is only available for users performing a fresh install of Mavericks, with some users having luck re-installing the new GM over the prior version.

The prior GM had a build number of 13A598, while the new release is build 13A603. Apple is reportedly targeting a late October launch for Mavericks and it's possible the company will give a final release date at Tuesday's media event.

Can anyone tell me how Mavericks runs on a 15" Retina MBP as Mountain Lion runs like s*** on mine - so laggy and frame droppy.

Hoping Mavericks fixes this up!

Does this mean build number 13A598 will expire? I would really hate to have to reinstall GM.

Would love if they said "...available now".

Or even "free"! Wonder if it will be cheaper than before, as they've been making them less expensive all the time.

Typically I would say yes, it will expire and require a reinstall only because you wont have the "official gm" that will ship to the public. In essence, the original gm becomes a beta that expires.

No, according to 9to5mac

The new Mavericks build is not available via the Mac Developer Portal or via Software Update. Instead, it is appearing for users installing OS X Mavericks GM for the first time.

So whatever the changes they appear to be insignificant.

so the first one wasn't really the golden master then was it...
A GM build is usually, but not always, the final build.

So I guess I need to reinstall Mavericks now... (I doubt 13A598 will get on the train of forthcoming OS X 10.9.1 and so on)

OS X Developer Previews do not expire.

GM builds are built to be the final version. Updates are only issued if there are major problems. Not only do Developer Preview's (betas) not expire, but a build built to be the final version definitely does not expire.

No. But this is not without precedent. A GM build is usually, but not always, the final build.

Yep those who think they are running the GM ahead of everyone else have to start all over again with a clean install :D

You won't get any software updates regardless. So unless you're happy to be stuck OS X 10.9.0 for the duration, you're wiping your machine and installing again.

I'm sorry because I'm a bit noob about this, but… If I have installed the previous GM over Mountain Lion, will I be able to install the new GM over Mavericks? Or do I need to go back to Mountain Lion (I would have no idea how to do this). Thanks!

When updates are released I should have no problem running them considering I'm running the first GM right?

Hopefully one can install the 'new' GM over the previous one. Otherwise it will have to be a fresh install of this updated GM. The article said some users have had success doing this.

Yeah, I mixed up iOS with OS X. It was much easier back in the day to keep them straight when I didnt care too much about iOS beta :)

ML Runs fine on mine; I have the 2.6ghz i7, 8 gig RAM, 500 GB SSD model.

Do you have automatic graphics switching enabled in the Energy Saver control panel?
