TechCrunch:

It’s hard to tell from my limited time with the machine so far, but I also believe that Apple has addressed one of the primary failings of the generation one product, which could suffer from case creak with the bottom panel in some instances. Compared to my personal 2012 15-inch Retina Pro, it feels more solidly constructed, for what it’s worth. And as always, Apple’s aluminum and glass construction stands up to any aesthetic test you could apply to it.

CNET:

Definitely check out CNET's review of the macbook pro. It compares last year's 650m to the 750m:

Our old Mac standby, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, ran at 35 frames per second at the highest detail settings and full 2,880x1,800 resolution. The game ran at 81.2 at a more reasonable 1,680x1,050 resolution. Last year's Retina MacBook Pro ran that test at 70.8 frames per second (1,680x1,050) and crashed at the higher resolution.

I am greatly interested in UI performance/framerates on the 13 inch base model.

I'm not a fan of the performance of its space and time shifting feature. It's taking forever to move itself out of the factory in China and onto a plane to the US. :D

Upgraded from a late 2008 macbook pro. I'm so happy with this machine! It's the top model available (2.3, 16, 512, 750m)

HDMI output working?

Can anyone with a new 13" rMBP confirm whether or not your HDTV or external monitor displays a sharp 1080p picture when connecting the rMBP to it via HDMI?

I was reading about all these problems about poor image quality from the HDMI output when using external monitors (blurry text, etc.) on rMBP models here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4119545?start=0&tstart=0

There seems to be a workaround, but it would be nice if Apple fixed the problem in the Haswell update.

Any news on this anyone?

more likely than not it is your television televisions are not calibrated for sharp text

I'll bite. Mostly because I'm in love and want to tell the world about it.

I picked up the base 15.

Applications:
- Lightroom
- iMovie
- iPhoto
- VirtualBox (Win 8.1 and Ubuntu 13.04)
- Tons'O'Tabs in Safari
- Calendar
- Mail
- Terminal

Battery Life:
- VERY Light, just a few tabs of safari and I think I'll get over 10 hours (at least according to the "battery")
- Standard business work. Lots of tabs, IBM Notes, lots of terminal, java web conferences should net out about 8 hours
- Creative apps. Lightroom etc. This could vary widely, just doing editing in lightroom is very light on this system, still 8 hours. Lots of photo exports and video editing is going to kill things quite a bit. 4-6 hours maybe?

Overall Performance:
- Ridiculously fast

Display:
- LOVE the 15. It's now my only display at work, I still use a 27 external at home sometimes.
- I do miss the 13 for it's form factor, but I couldn't go back now.

I'm very interested in seeing some SSD benchmarks comparing the 256GB 512GB and 1TB SSD sticks.

I've not got mine yet or I'd provide a 1TB benchmark myself.

Had mine for less than 24 hours

Very happy with the purchase. I went with the 2.3ghz and the Iris Pro/GT750M chips, 500gb HDD. Shockingly fast, and it will last me a very long time.

I was wondering if any owners can comment on the webcam quality of the new macbooks? The previous generation's webcam was pretty horrendous (clearly worse than the cMBP's).

Thanks!!

Read one of the threads here that said the new rMBP 15" has a much brighter screen than the previous generations. Any users out there can confirm this?

Why would a 1TB SSD be that fast? I've seen other results in the 700MB range. Does a larger SSD come with faster speeds?

Usually there are more chips on the higher capacity SSD's and that means higher speeds because the SSD's do not fill one chip at a time when writing, it actually slices up the incoming data and writes to all chips simultaneously.

So work divided among more chips = higher speeds.

Damn that just did it for me with those 1tb speeds. I'm on last years classic with a samsung 840 pro and less than 500. Trying to decide on getting the new Retina unit.

Some bad points. No lock
No Ethernet port

But having 2 tb ports is what I'm after as I have a 27inch NEC and a Pegasus 4tb external sharing the same Tb port and really like to dedicate the Pegasus to one port only. I could run the Ethernet off the back end of the Pegasus .

I need processing speed for raw files

Decisions

What are the use cases where the extra speed of the faster drives comes in handy? Is this a bottleneck for high end video editing? Or does it just make copying files super fast?

Just got my rMBP this morning, first mac computer I have owned after having all the iPhones, iPads, etc not saying I'm converting all the way over from windows due to my gaming addiction, but for day to day use I'm loving the MBP :)

Any issues with new MBP haswell

Hello all,

I see many people have ordered new MBP haswell based laptops or rather started to use them.

Has anyone ever encountered
-- sudden system freeze
or
-- the keyboard and touch pad become unresponsive symptoms?

I'm interested in buying the new MBP but looking into apple forums, I found a couple of threads discussing about the same issue.

Was wondering whether any of you guys out here experienced the same?

Thanks.
