It is brighter but not a lot. If I had to guess I'd say maybe 10-15%. I'm still waffling between keeping the new rMBP or my Macbook Air. The real world battery usage on the Air is obscene....

Not sure about my rMBP yet. I'm going to fuss with it this weekend and I'll have a better idea.

Read one of the threads here that said the new rMBP 15" has a much brighter screen than the previous generations. Any users out there can confirm this?

Not quite an owner yet but I should be picking up my first MBPr next week. 15", 16, 512. I'll be using either Parallels or VMware for the Windows apps that I need for work.

Same notebook I've upgraded from. 2009 17" :D

Sweet! :p Mine actually hasn't done too bad as I put a 256gb M4 in it along with a 750gb black drive in the optibay. Only bad thing is the battery.. I might just see if I can get a new one for it and use it for my dedicated car Coding pc :p

I changed my battery about 3 weeks ago. I found a site in the UK that was selling genuine Apple ones.

I also did the optibay change. I kept my original 320GB drive in there and then stuck in a cheapo 60GB SSD in the optibay adapter.

The thing that really started to push me over the edge was when even youtube lagged on it. That was the last straw for me. Everything else was starting to run slow too but that was like the straw that broke the camels back.

I got mine all the way back in Feb 2009 so it lasted me almost 5 years. Pretty great, my apple care ran out ages ago :D

Anyone can test League of Legends on 13" (1280x800 - max settings on this resolution) and 15" (2880x1800 - max settings on this resolution), also tell me the fps?

Thanks. :D

I have the 13. At those settings, LoL hovers around 41-50 fps in lane. It dips somewhat at times. I haven't tested it in large team fights yet however. I found that playing at a slightly higher resolution and settings on high is the sweet spot for me, fps generally stays above 40.

Hello all,

I see many people have ordered new MBP haswell based laptops or rather started to use them.

Has anyone ever encountered
-- sudden system freeze
or
-- the keyboard and touch pad become unresponsive symptoms?

I'm interested in buying the new MBP but looking into apple forums, I found a couple of threads discussing about the same issue.

Was wondering whether any of you guys out here experienced the same?

Thanks.

interested in knowing this as well

Added the review by techcrunch as well. Here is an excerpt that talks about improved build quality compared to the 2012 model:

It’s hard to tell from my limited time with the machine so far, but I also believe that Apple has addressed one of the primary failings of the generation one product, which could suffer from case creak with the bottom panel in some instances. Compared to my personal 2012 15-inch Retina Pro, it feels more solidly constructed, for what it’s worth. And as always, Apple’s aluminum and glass construction stands up to any aesthetic test you could apply to it.

There is a bug in chrome on mavericks that causes your multitouch gestures to stop working. If you do a two finger swipe to go back/forward in your history it causes chrome to stop responding to every gesture (including scrolling).

To fix this, you have to go to chrome://flags/ and enable (not automatic) touch for os x, chrome os, and pc - then restart your computer.

It's said to be a temporary fix but it has completely fixed the issue for me since I did it yesterday. It also seems to be affecting some computers, not all of them with mavericks. As I have a friend who also got the haswell rmbp and doesn't have that issue, but someone with a 1 year of classic has the issue after updating to mavericks.

Definitely check out CNET's review of the macbook pro. It compares last year's 650m to the 750m:

Our old Mac standby, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, ran at 35 frames per second at the highest detail settings and full 2,880x1,800 resolution. The game ran at 81.2 at a more reasonable 1,680x1,050 resolution. Last year's Retina MacBook Pro ran that test at 70.8 frames per second (1,680x1,050) and crashed at the higher resolution.

Going from an early 2006 13" 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo, 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDram, 320HHD (8 years and still works!)

To a late 2013 2.8GHz Dual-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.3GHz, 16GB 1600MHz DDR3L SDRAM, 512GB PCIe-based Flash Storage

Can't wait for it to arrive!

I received my 13" MBP (2.4GHz, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) yesterday, and to my disappointment I have have encountered a keyboard and trackpad freeze twice already. It's by the way not a complete system freeze, it's possible to login using ssh (and, for example, reboot the system from there).

The last error message which shows up in my log is as below, but this message shows up quite a lot of times when not having a freeze as well.

I was using Preview when the problem occurred on both occasions, though that could be coincidental.

Code:
kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

Are there also users with a new MBP that do not have this problem?

I think you win the "biggest, most drastic upgrade" award.

Upgraded from a late 2008 macbook pro. I'm so happy with this machine! It's the top model available (2.3, 16, 512, 750m)

Also upgraded from one of the first Unibody MBP's. After 5 years the difference makes the upgrade more noticeable and satisfying than it would be upgrading yearly.

Many of the improvements are the lesser talked about things. While the screen and overall speed are most obvious, you also have things like the far better speakers, the faster wake from sleep time and how quickly the system reacts after an external monitor is plugged it. The whole system also runs cooler and the heat when doing something intensive like playing a game is less intense around the keyboard area like the WASD keys.

There's a lot of satisfaction in waiting between updates I find, the differences are truly perceivable in every aspect. I know some people will upgrade from 2012 rMBP's, but the difference is so tiny and inconceivable if you upgrade so quickly.

Have this same issue...Laptop completely froze for a bit. Put it to sleep for a couple of minutes and it came back.

Geez, that SSD speed is super fast. I thought it got slower with larger SSDs.

I remember that the Macbook Air's puny 128GB SSD was faster than the 512GB SSD on my dad's rMBP.

Glad that's not the case now. I went with the 512GB.

Upgrading from an early 2008 MBP that has a broken screen, but still is going strong. I just have it connected to an external monitor.

THE SPEAKERS!!!! I'm into high end audio and have quite a collection of nice headphones/amps/DAC's and I was actually blown away by the speakers in this. Obviously not as good as an actual set of standalone speakers but for being built in they're fantastic.

I was wondering if any owners can comment on the webcam quality of the new macbooks? The previous generation's webcam was pretty horrendous (clearly worse than the cMBP's).

Thanks!!

Unfortunately it is unchanged. I own both the 2013 MacBook Pro and Air. The webcam on the Air is significantly better!

Cnet is pretty dumb, they are comparing the 2.3 Haswell on 10.9 to
2.3 Ivy Bridge on 10.7.4 lol. Their benchmarks in comparing the two are not valid.

Check their system specs

To owners of the 13in mid-range model with a 256gb SSD: could someone post a disk speed test? Also, could you check if the SSD a Samsung?

Impatiently waiting for my 2013 MBPr. Fully loaded with the 512 flash drive. Cant wait..returning my just recently purchased June 2012 fully loaded refurbish MBPr..Actually the new one was about $70.00 cheaper.
