Haswell Macbook Pro Owners Thread

have you decided yet?

I want to get a refurbished retina model that comes with 8GB ram for only $1160, but I'm not sure. I could spend $1,400 to get the midrange, but I'm trying not to :(

I think I'm going to do it or I'll regret it. I'd also like the extra space so it's nice.

Don't think mavericks was rushed. They released the gold master two weeks ago meaning they had plenty of time to spare

Actually they released two GMs, so I'm pretty sure there was something wrong with the first one, very wrong.

Either way, Mavericks has a lot of nice new stuff, it's just behaving like brand new software at the moment... i.e. it needs a few bugfixes.

This is my early 2006 macbook white 13" 1.83mhz, with 2gb 667mhz DDR2 ram. Battery still holds about 2 hours of work!

Soon now, this will be all but a legacy, when my new maxed out 13" rMBP arrives !

Balls!

My 15" MBP should be here Tue. I'm so glad I waited past the first gen of Retina! I got the 2.6GHz with 1Tb SSD, spending way too much on a laptop, but let's face it, this is the best damn laptop out there by a mile.

A One TB SSD on a new Retina, wow. That's just going to be awesome.

Anybody else noticed that the trackpad is sometimes unresponsive to multitouch gestures?

It's possibly due to Mavericks. I'm getting the same type of thing with the 2012 rmbp. There were no such problems on ML, at least for me.

This is a thread I can't wait to join. Hopefully my BTO 13" comes tomorrow or Tuesday. So far the reviews are very good.

A workmate bought a 13" with the 8/256 config. Had a look and a quick play when he brought it in and I'm sold. Just need the funds. Got my first Mac this year (late 2012 Mini) and the experience has been great.
The macbook will replace my 3rd gen iPad. I thought about an iPad Air but feel I'll get more and better use from an actual laptop.
Don't know when I'll be able to cough up and get one, but I'm looking forward to it.

Nice artifact. That should be in a history museum somewhere

when I pick up my computer it makes a noise from the body like a cracking noise, is this going to cause a problem in the future? I am happy with everything else. I am not sure what I should do? My older macbook pro doesnt make any noise its solid...

Nope. MacBooks have by far the best track pad on the market. If you're having legitimate problems you should call Apple (or visit an Apple Store).

it might be the fan rubbing against the case

I purchased the maxed out BTO 15" just hours after launch, and I'm super excited! I've been tracking it's every move, but unfortunately I won't get my hands on it until Thursday or Friday because I live in a "remote" region of Canada according to UPS. :(

I ordered the 13" i5 2.6, 1 TB SSD and 16 GB. It is now prepared for shipment, yeah. I am currently using a quad core 2011 with a 5400 rpm HD.

I use mine to edit video and photo. Everyone tells me it should be fine, so lets wait and see...

First thing I will do is to load FCPX and edit away. If it is not smooth the machine goes back...

To me it seems a Mavericks issue and not a MBP issue because I have the same on my 2011 since I updated to Mavericks.

Wow, I have a 2.4 Ghz core2 duo, that is old enough that I don't remember when I bought it. Is gotta be 6+ years old now. The Apple batteries are dead (one expanded and came apart 2 years ago), and I had the defective 8600 video card die and require a system board replacement, but it still works! Amazing.

I'm perfectly happy just running Linux, but to be honest I have not found a PC laptop worth keeping. The Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro was the absolute coolest with an amazing 3200x1800 screen. As cool as the screen was, it could not display yellow!!!! How on earth does that get past QA. Seriously yellow as brownish green!

I still use my 14" iBook G4 1.42 GHz running Leopard for watching DVDs. Works great. Very heavy compared to todays models but still good. To get it into perfect working conditions I would need a new battery, key and HD wich I don't spend.

Received my 15" base 750m model tonight. It has a dead pixel in the center of the screen. Taking it to Apple tomorrow to return it and get a new one.. Very inconvenient. It's a Samsung screen (LSN) with no other noticeable issues.

Have had my 15" top-end rMBP all day now. Absolutely love it!

Updated all my mail accounts. Downloaded my Creative Cloud programs. Installed Steam and put some games on it - Bioshock Infinite, TF2, Hotline Miami, etc. Also downloaded iWork. Customized the dock to my liking.

Had it on the charger all afternoon. It's been sitting at 100% for several hours. Now I'm trying to drain the battery down to zero by letting TF2 play at max brightness. Hopefully it dies in the next few hours, I'll let it stay dead until I get to work. Then I can charge it back up to 100% at work. I know some people say it's unnecessary, but a full cycle has always helped me eek the most out of my battery, I think. Besides, can't do much harm.

I get this too, specifically lower left around the screws -- is this something that will get worse? Or just better to go to the store and swap it out?

its good to see someone got a samsung panel. i was starting to think all the newer ones are LG

Was very happy to get an early 8:30am delivery from the Fedex guy today. It was 2 days earlier than anticipated.

Got mine 48 hours ago. Its the 2.3/16/512. Been pumping data into the SSD all day.

Build: No creaks. No problems.

Screen: evenly lit without color shifts. Using it for photo stuff, so I checked it pretty thoroughly but I didn't do all sorts of weird tests like many like to do. I did not check for IR and I am not going to. I plan on calibrating the screen tomorrow; if there are problems, you'll hear from me.

Heat/noise: the thing is dead silent when doing normal work (internet, youtube, word processing) and light photo work. About 2000 photos into updating 7000 previews in Aperture, the fan started going. About 2500 in the keys got pretty warm on the left hand side but the bottom wasn't too bad as far as heat goes. It took maybe 10-15 minutes for anything noticeable to happen. Thats just a guesstimate, so don't read too much into it. As I am typing we are 3000 photos in and the fan just shut off....And just a few minutes later we are done and the fan is off, computer is cooling. For photo work, this thing is fine. For heavy 3D and heavy gaming, might get hot!

Performance: Impressive. I am coming from a MBA and this thing flies. Probably more than I need. It feels very big, so anyone coming from a MBA, this thing is like a boat. No curling up in bed this at a 90 degree angle!

I really like it, but it might be a little big. If you got a 13, you made a good choice as the only thing the 15 has is speed and graphics performance...and its only going to be 50% faster or whatever 20% of the time for most people so it will rarely be noticeable, while the size and weight will always be there. So whichever you got, I think its a good one.

Pages, numbers and keynotes seem good on a cursory glance and use. I read a lot of complaints, but the new layouts are actually quite nice.

I really like it.
