Got mine, base 15", absolutely lovely.

However I have noticed that the bottom left part is kind of yellowish and apparently this is a common issue.

Now my question is: has anyone actually got one without the yellow tint?

Also I know i can replace it or demand refund during the first 14 days after purchase (5 days ago), but how many replacements can i actually demand? I mean can i just go to the apple store, ask for a replacement (hopefully they will have one in stock) and literally open it in front of them and if it still has the yellow tint ask for another one straight on?

I'll let you know when I return mine today. I'm not going to muck around with it; I'm simply going to go there, return this one (it's within 14 days), then ask for a new unit. I don't think I'll have any issues with it as I've done it in the past.

Edit:

I traded my dRMBP in for a replacement. The new one has no issues (no IR, no yellowing, no dead pixels) and is LSN (Samsung). I'm very happy with this purchase.

Can any of you owners comment on the webcam quality of the new MBPs? Compared to the last generation retina macbook pros that is (which was horrible).

Thanks!

Supposedly the 13" Retina displays are all LG. No problems so far, though. Definitely an improvement in weight and battery life over my 2010 15". :)

For everyone here asking about defects and maintenance software:

1. when you get your laptop, inspect it closely and use it heavily for a few days. This will bring to light any defects. There is no need to run checks on parts and for IR, yellow screens unless you actually notice a problem.
2. You should buy Apple Care in case anything pops up in a few months to a year.
3. You do not need any maintenance software. If your computer beings acting weird or slow, consider repairing permissions or checking the hard drive. This can be done via Disk Utility. Also, some maintenance programs are not updated for Mavericks.

IMO its better to pay for Applecare and deal with problems when they happen than to try and get a laptop by trial and error with parts recommended by forums that will only, at best, decrease the chance of a problem. It will also save you a lot of time and effort.

I received my 13" MBP (2.4GHz, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) yesterday, and to my disappointment I have have encountered a keyboard and trackpad freeze twice already. It's by the way not a complete system freeze, it's possible to login using ssh (and, for example, reboot the system from there).

The last error message which shows up in my log is as below, but this message shows up quite a lot of times when not having a freeze as well.

I was using Preview when the problem occurred on both occasions, though that could be coincidental.

Code:
kernel[0]: The USB device Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad (Port 5 of Hub at 0x14000000) may have caused a wake by issuing a remote wakeup (2)

Are there also users with a new MBP that do not have this problem?

I can confirm that my haswell 13" has the same issues...it has frozen on me quite a few times and I have to hard boot it to get it to work again. Is that a logic board issue or a mavericks issue?

keyboard issues on wake

Hello all,

I see many people have ordered new MBP haswell based laptops or rather started to use them.

Has anyone ever encountered
-- sudden system freeze
or
-- the keyboard and touch pad become unresponsive symptoms?

I'm interested in buying the new MBP but looking into apple forums, I found a couple of threads discussing about the same issue.

Was wondering whether any of you guys out here experienced the same?

Thanks.

My problem is that the 4, R, F and V keys stop working for several minutes whenever I wake the computer. Not sure what is causing it, but was hoping Apple would resolve with today's update - no such luck. Any ideas? One week old late 2013 15" macbook pro retina - it goes back this weekend if I cannot resolve the problem.

Why would a 1TB SSD be that fast? I've seen other results in the 700MB range. Does a larger SSD come with faster speeds?

Usually there are more chips on the higher capacity SSD's and that means higher speeds because the SSD's do not fill one chip at a time when writing, it actually slices up the incoming data and writes to all chips simultaneously.

So work divided among more chips = higher speeds.

Hi, the main reason of having a higher read & right speed on the 1T SSD over the 512 SSD is the different processors in both machines ... the MBP 512 SSD has 2.3 GHz Vs. 2.6 GHz in the 1T SSD' MBP ... i.e you will not see a big difference in the read and right speed on the same SSD on same MBP, with 450 GB free space and after loading it with about 450 GB (about 50 GB free) .. and the low read & right speed on the loaded SSD is due to the defragmentation.

Edit:
The Blackmagic testing is using 5 GB dummy file ... imagine that if the SSD chipsets are smaller than 5 GB (512/5 > 103 chipset ... 1T/5 GB > 205 chipset)!

Bought a late 2013 rMBP 13" 8GB/256G SSD (i5) in late January 2013, and I've used it daily since then.

I could not be happier. The video is excellent, battery life is great, never a lag or anything even when running multiple applications.

This beats the pants off my 2008 MBP that I upgraded with maxed memory and an SSD, and I was really happy with that one.

Thought the 512 vs 1tb speed difference is because of 2 vs 4 pcie channels...

Hi, i konw a freind ( dguay ) who add similar intermitent issue with the trackpad swiping he did post some thing on it... But personnaly mine Top model late 2013 work PERFECTLY:):apple:

Thank's

Decided to post contention

I use a few rMBP 13" and 15" models from various years.

It seems, (here's where the trouble starts) that the 13" screens are better; brighter, and whiter. For some reason, some of (or most) the 15" yellowish, and aren't as bright.

In short, the only way this is an issue is if you use them side by side. You can't help noticing it. Even the most OCD resistant mind will notice it. Superman would notice it. (actually, he would notice it more probably)

Of course all of these screens are fantastic, but we are chronic nitpickers so Hey!

Hey, I'm getting a 13" rmbp soon (it was supposed to arrive today but they delayed it til friday).

My question is, do I need to do anything to make sure battery life stays good (like use it all up when I get it or plug it in right away)? My last MBP the battery degraded pretty quick (and never was at 100% but apple said that was normal even though when I got it it was already at 94% according to coconut battery *sigh*. It hardly ever charges up to 100% after I have used it and plug it in again and it's been like that the whole time I've had it. If you can't tell I never was fully satisfied it came with a good battery in the first place. And now after being stored badly - I think it was left on and plugged in and never used, usually cause of the way I use it it gets used at least once a week but other than that is plugged in - when I was stuck in the hospital for a while the battery sux even worse, at least mavericks has made it usable again for what I need, but barely).

Oh, and as for trackpad freezing? My 2010 MBP does that, actually turned it in to apple three times it's first year for that and finally gave up and asked them to put a note in case it ever fully froze up and stopped working entirely (they just kept replacing it even when after the 2nd time it was obvious it wasn't a trackpad issue... I was also worried maybe it was some other hardware). I have found if I put my hand on the trackpad fully it seems to break it of it (but this could just be superstition but it does seem to work). And I haven't noticed it doing it lately actually (it's been pretty good about it). It seems maybe it is worse when it is cold?

Hey,

They did took it for replacement ? I'n the case of my friend when he put the computer on sleep a few second it work fine after ? he went to apple store and they did not have any solution :O ??

Thank a lot...

They replaced the trackpad. Like at least three times (after the 2nd time I was a little annoyed, it's obviously not the trackpad. I actually liked it when the last guy I talked to said it was probably software, at least he wasn't trying to just appease me. At that point I was happy enough with the assurance that it would be noted in case my trackpad died entirely after the warranty was up - which I know could be false promises but I had given up on being solved and just wanted some way to assauge myself to just let it go).

Anyways, if it's just your trackpad freezing up (with mine it wasn't trackpad/keyboard, that's how I knew it was the trackpad and not the computer freezing up cause it responded to the keyboard), I found putting your hand on it for a few seconds seems to help (most times anyways). And my issue is very random, it doesn't happen all the time, but enough that when I first got it I had visions of it slowly getting worse until it died completely (after warranty was up of course). I've had it for four years and it has kept at the same amount of happenings. Hell, I honestly don't know when it last did it, I suspect it's not done it in longer than it usually takes (it may be getting better, maybe mavericks fixed it). (and when I have problems with electronics they always seem to be wierd ones that only show up when I'm using the product... I had a VCR one time that would randomly start playing in black and white ... it's actually the catalyst why I refuse to shop at Best Buy <- don't ask, it's still a long rant when I go into it).

Does the built-in calibration tool do a good job? Anyone have any guide/tutorials for that?

Don't want to invest in a colorimeter. (Although I should).

I had more freezes on rMBP 2013 in the first 2 weeks of ownership that I did with MBP 2011.

Anyone else have
1)freezes (nothing moves, need to reboot)

2) long 'breaths' where everything including the mouse cursor stop.

David

I have some light pauses when moving around in a zoomed pdf full screen.

I do have the two finger touch features stop altogether once in a blue moon. A sleep / wake fixes it.

This is completely wrong.
SSD write speeds have very little to do with CPU clock speed. In this case it has to do with the number of NAND chips, the 1TB SSD will typically have double the number of these than the 512GB would. So when the SSD controller writes to the NAND chips it writes to multiple chips simultaneously, a little bit like a complex RAID 0 array.

SSD's do get slower as the fill up, but this is compensated by always leaving a free buffer which the user cannot see. SSD's do not fragment and please never try to defrag as it will damage it, my advice for keeping an SSD in good shape is to make sure TRIM is enabled and not filling it past around 80%. Just google for more info, there's tons of helpful websites out there.

Nope. Only issue I have sometimes is with Mail needing to be forced quit.
