I've decided to just go with the 16GB model. There is no way my entire iTunes collection could ever be put on the iPad, so basically I will always have to have another computer that will be my master and the iPad a slave to it. 16GB is plenty of space for me as far as temporary storage for iTunes. I'll copy video files over as needed. I probably won't put many audio files on it, I'll just use my iPod or iPhone for my music files. So mainly my iPad will contain apps (and data) and videos. 16GB will be plenty for that. Plus to me there is something magically about that $499 price. I've thought all along I really didn't want to go over the $500 price mark for such a device.

32Gig for the first gen one because there is no way 16 is enough. Second gen will benefit from me knowing how much i use the device for so I might upgrade or downgrade accordingly.

The smallest flash drive in the second generation iPad might be 32 Gb (and likely at the same price point of $499 as the first gen 16Gb), so there may not be much room to downgrade.

Easy choice for me - I'm going with the base 16 gigs w/wifi.

I own an 8 gig iPhone, and currently have nearly 3 gigs free with a TON of music (320 bit rate, AAC ripped from original CDs) loaded on here, a bunch of apps, and some photos.

The iPad pretty much won't be leaving the house, and for the most part will be an eBook reader (as I had been considering a Kindle DX recently), just with the added benefits that I can run all my iPhone software.

Some software I'll be happy to take advantage of using the larger screen:

LogMeIn Ignition -- Being able to remotely control my Mac from anywhere in the house on a LARGE screen will be great.

Safari -- large screen web browsing will be a pretty major use as well.

iBook Reader -- Aside from books, I hope magazine publishers decide to offer e-subscriptions. I waste so much space right now with back issues. having them be available whenever I'd like on the iPad would be a HUGE convenience.

Some various games will be pretty nice big-screen too...

I can't wait to get one :)

Mobile Me instead of 32 GB iPad.

Maybe a better use of $100, e.g., jumping from 16 GB iPad to 32 GB iPad, would be setting up a Mobile Me account. For $100 you get 20 GB of storage, plus all the advantages included in the Mobile Me application.

I definitely don't see any need for a Mobile Me account. I have a backup as time machine. And I use Google services for my calendar syncing, email and what not. I would think a better use of that $100 would be to get the 3G radio. :)

I myself am getting the 3G 32GB iPad. If I'm going to take this thing on trips without bringing my Macbook Pro, I want it loaded to the brim with Movies, and TV Shows.

I guess what you guys are forgetting is, that your files on the iDisk or Dropbox can't be audio files or pictures, when you want to use them comfortably.

The iDisk app for the iPhone is first of all very slow and when you started streaming a song, you can't just press next or something, you have to go back and select a new track, very annoying. Same goes for pictures: you don't get a preview of the picture and when you load one, it takes very long (even for 800k files) till it shows up.

These cloud disk spaces are only useful for documents like .doc, .xls or .pdf. So if you want to use media, you'll have to get more space on the device.

You're most likely right. That's exactly what we've been seeing with iPhone and iPods.

I'm really hoping I don't regret just getting the Wi-fi one. I want to save the money and I nearly always have a wi-fi hot spot around (work, home, Starbucks black card holder) so I'm hoping that will be enough.

My trick to figuring out whether or not to get 3G was asking myself the question: "If both models are released same day, which one would you choose?" And if you say 3G, then I say wait, otherwise you'll regret it.

I can't help but wonder if ATT is throwing a low ball with this pricing.

Seems like they could back out of it.

It's just too good to be true (and you know the saying).

64GB+3G for me. Go big or go home! You only live once, might as well enjoy your toys now. :)

Same here. If you got the money, why not. I was expecting to pay up to $1000. Waiting the extra month for the 3g will be easy and will give me a chance to read about other peoples experiences.

I wish I could wait. I've built myself into a fenzy though. The way I figure it, I can use this year to decide how badly I need 3G and get it in next years model if I decide I want it. Gives me a reason to upgrade. :p

That's cool… I just looked into it. I had no idea you could sync automatically to Google services from iCal on the iPhone itself.

Wait. You can sync with Google Calendar? That's gonna be very useful. Any other Google/Apple integrations that might be useful to a Google Apps user that has not ever used an Apple product?

Well you can sync your Google Calendar, Google E-Mail and Google Contacts all via Push using the Google Sync services.

I've thought quite a lot about this. I'm certainly going to buy an iPad, but it's mainly because, working in the publishing industry, I am curious to be in on the technology. As it is an experiment, I am going to buy towards the bottom of the range, and will settle for the 32GB wifi one. I work from home, so the internet is already available for most things, and when I travel, I can find a hotspot to retrieve my emails. 16GB seems just a bit small to me, but I balk at the price of the 64GB one, so every time I revolve the topic around my head I keep coming back to the 32GB.

One thing is for certain: there will be rapid change and upgrades in the years to come. Right now, I have certain ideas about how I will use the device, but only time will tell whether these are right. In eighteen months to two years, I will no doubt have a much better idea of what I want to use the iPad for, so for now I think it pays to be a bit conservative.

I got a 32gig iphone 3gs! I have used about 24gig. I got tons of apps, House season 5, couple movies. So, I am going for the 64gig 3g

I really don't see the point of getting more then 16Gb, do you really need so much songs and videos? It will take you forever to listen and watch that content. It's just a wast of money imo.. Think about it.

Music I agree, but videos take up a lot of space. I am planning on using this thing for my kids to watch movies on trips. I definitely will need a lot of videos on there to keep them entertained as they don't usually watch just one all the way through (they are little). 32 GB seems about right given I have my 32 GB iphone about all filled up now with very little music on there (about 8GB) and only about 200 photos and 5 movies. (23GB used up).
