16gb is the PERFECT size for the iPad!

Ok, I admit I created my thread title to get "32gb and 64gb owners that lack self confidence" in here but mainly I just wanted to encourage fellow 16gb ipad 3 owners. I just got down setting up my 16gb wifi only iPad just as I want it and want to share with you how it's filled. My main space filling app is called Logos. It's a Bible app that works in conjuction with software on my laptop. It takes up 5.2gb because I downloaded 1290 resources that I own (bibles, commentaries, magazines, dictionaries, books, etc). I have 25 game apps including Modern Combat 3 (1.8gb) and Real Racing 2 HD (1.1gb) and Dungeon Defenders (949mb).

I have ibooks and Khan Academy and iTunes U for more learning :) I have Netflix so that I can watch all the old shows I like to watch. And i have 462mb left over :)

I have a 64gb iphone where I keep my music and pictures. I never download movies.

So there you go. I have more books loaded on my iPad than I will ever be able to read. More games than I ever have time to play (and gaming is one of my biggest hobbies). And in those 2 things, i'm 100% mobile since my games and books are downloaded. Now if i want to watch Netflix, i have to be on Wifi.

Point of this post: 16gb is PERFECT for MEEEE at this exact time and people need to stop coming on Macrumors and hyperventilating that they won't be able to put 20gb of music, 20gb of movies, 10gb of games and 10gb of pictures/videos on their iPad.

I will say though since I find my iphone much more convenient to use I will always get the max capacity for it (64gb right now).

But if someone wanted to buy a 64gb iPad to store most all their stuff and a 16gb iphone just for reading material I wouldn't say they made a bad decision they will regret. I would understand MY NEEDS ARE NOT THEIR NEEDS and be happy for them that they could afford an ios device :D

Sounds like you are trying to talk us into 16gb is enough. LOL.

I am not buying and am glad I got my 64gb LTE.

Buying the new iPad? You might want to double that storage

Takeaway: If you’re buying a new iPad, take into account that app sizes have reportedly more than doubled to take advantage of the Retina display. 16GB might not cut it any more.

Just before the new iPads hit the stores, would-be consumers might want to consider that the 16GB that has served you well in the past might get eaten up a lot quicker now that the Retina display has become the hallmark feature.

Meghan Kelly of the Washington Post reports that the iPad apps have swollen in size to meet the new display’s high-definition potential. Kelly gives the hat tip to Vietnamese tech blog Tinhte for pointing out the difference in app sizes (translated post):

That’s a huge increase and a potential suck on data storage in even the newest 16GB iPad. Because Apple wants apps in the App Store to work universally with any of its mobile devices, the company isn’t going to make an exception for the new display. We checked the App Store to see if the Pages app had actually increased to 269MB, and indeed it has.

The Cult of Mac blog also reports that iPad apps have more than doubled in size and offers their own comparison (you’ll note a discrepancy in the reported size of the Pages app between the blogs; 269MB is the number listed in the App Store):

APP iPad2 iPad Retina
Keynote 110MB 327MB
Numbers 104MB 375MB
Pages 89MB 331MB
iMovie 82MB 404MB
iPhoto N/A 129MB

This could make a significant difference to iPad users who are app-aholics. If you’ve settled for 16GB in the past, you might want to consider your needs (or wants) and go for the 32GB or 64GB version instead.

If you need to make a post to justify your purchase then something is wrong. This is a high definition iPad that people use for various activities . Some need their photos on a big screen. Some don't have an iPhone so they need everything on their iPad .

Enjoy your purchase. Stop making dumb threads.

+1

not everyone has the same usage & storage pattern as you. moreover, you're trying too hard to convince others that 16gb is the 'sweet spot'. somewhere in there, i think you're overcompensating for your choice.

my next ipad purchase will be at least 64gb (currently have a 32gb ipad2).

I like how you are trying to justify your purchase for what you picked for yourself towards everyone else...as if anyone really cares on what you do.

I like how I have over two THOUSAND views in a few hours because of putting one word in my thread title. I also like how people take the time to come in this thread and make a post stating that they don't care....if I didn't care about something, I would ignore it. But that's just me.

Thanks for keeping my thread going guys :) I'm guessing it will go many more pages without my help because so many people "don't care" about my choice also because they keep thinking that I said 16gb was perfect for everyone when that is the opposite of what my OP says...:D

This is EXACTLY why I made my OP! Thanks for the help :) So many of you are buying a certain size iPad because of what a random internet article written by a random internet guy tells you based on a random collection of data INSTEAD OF buying something based solely on YOUR needs/wants and not the theoretically (or actual) app size of apps you will NEVER use.

My OP is saying just that: the 16gb CAN BE the perfect iPad size for someone and it IS for me. Most people just won't read my OP and are taking offense/trying to justify their actions based upon my thread title alone :D

Not everyone has the same usage & storage pattern is precisely why I posted. Because for me, a 32gb or 64gb iPad would have been a WASTE of money. On the other hand, the 64gb iPhone I have is literally maxxed out of space and if the next one releases with 128gb, I will be the first to buy it. But that is MY usage & storage pattern.

So thanks for supporting my original idea :)

I have a 16gb because I stream 90% of my music and video. I admittedly would feel more comfortable using a 32gb yo know I always have that open space for bigger apps that come out in the future but most likely 16 will work as I still have 9gb free ATM.

Everybody has different needs of what they use their iPad for. For some 16 is good enough, while others need even more then 64 gigs. It's all about your needs. So just enjoy the great device

So brand new iPad and you are already down to just 462MB after just a few days. And you recon that prooves your point that 16GB is enough?

Seriously in the next year you dont think you will ever want to add anything else to it?

You actually disprooved your point, by showing you have ALREADY ran out of space in the space of less than 2 days.

Ridiculous thread.

Data is either true or false. Claiming data is random as a way denying its truth is avoiding reality. If the data shows that retina apps are likely to double, then someone's either lying or there's a reluctance to accept this as fact.

I think the best title for this thread is simply '16gb is the PERFECT size for some iPad users' (which is coming from a proud 16gb iPad user :p)

I read the Bible, and I believe there are valid reasons for war. Violence is necessary in war. I am also against, violence for violence sake (Any horror movie like Hostel or whatever....)

So you're in favour of censorship of the arts?

I've mostly used my iDevices for portable websurfing/email so I've found 16 GB no problem at all. The iPad 2 camera is barely acceptable so photos/videos aren't that useful except for occasional use. And I've never got into the habit of playing music from a portable device so I don't need space for that.

However the iPad 3 display is excellent and the camera is much improved, so I'd probably be loading it with movies occasionally and shooting more photos/videos and need more space for that stuff. Also I've downloaded some iPad 2 games that are up to 1 GB and it looks like the iPad 3 versions will be a lot bigger. So I'm thinking a 16 GB iPad 3 might now be too small even for my relatively low-end needs.

I think it's funny how people make assumptions, as to a couple of comments, he never said anything about his personal beliefs, for all you know he could be an Atheist doing research into the Bible for a paper he's writing on Atheism. He didn't say anything about his beliefs.

As to losing credibility on mentioning "Bible app" = grow up. Whatever your beliefs are, be tolerant.

Lastly, he's just saying what his experience is. I got a 64 gb but thats me, and thats what works for me. It's not like if I hadn't read this meaningless thread I wouldn't have read another one just as meaningless instead.

Helllo people, this thread is hilarious. lets just get back to enjoying the iPad, shall we? :D

P.S. 16GB new iPad here and love it, loaded all my games and apps and still got 7gb left.

Some people have far too much hate to be tolerant.

5.2GB for a Bible app? Even Jesus is laughing at you.

If you know anything about the Bible, you know that God led His people into battle. Also, if you can't make a distinction between violence against innocents (like in Grand Theft Auto) and violence against an enemy, then you need to do more thinking about the topic of violence and war.

I read the Bible, and I believe there are valid reasons for war. Violence is necessary in war. I am also against, violence for violence sake (Any horror movie like Hostel or whatever....)

Sorry Friend, but it is us Christians who have carried out the greatest atrocities throught history.
