^ I think the tricky bit is the screen with that glass on it was the problem.
And not to turn this into a flame war, but the whole "I hate glossy screens" thing is ridiculous. I have used the new laptops in the Apple Store, which is VERY well lit, and I had no trouble focusing on the screen. It's called adapting.
Your Applle rep is an idiot. It wasn't revamped at all.
Didn't even get a new processor or GPU.
Where do people get their ignorance from anyway? (your rep that is not you)
Either way, there will be a 17" revamp/update to bring it in line with the current 15" MBP. Sad part is that it will only be in line with the current model.
Meaning you can just take what the 15" has now and put it into a bigger case. I doubt Apple will even give it anything other than an extra (and very useless) USB port.
Colonel Klink isnt going to be very happy with youAll I can say is what I was told by the people in the store, One of the Assistant managers I know said the usual, "We know NOTHING" He sounded like Schultz from Hogans Hero's (Guess I am showing my age on that one) But I am holding out till January at a minimum and see what happens. I was looking at Expercom.com because they ship with bigger than stock HD's but I am not sure if that hose's the warranty or if I have to go back and forth between them for repairs. In all I'll probably just get it from the apple store, after I stop down and play with the new one for a while.
There have been no rumors or postings about a new MBP 17" that have any validity to them.
Sit back and wait is all we can do.
Colonel Klink isn't going to be very happy with you

Still, there is no current generation 17" macbook pro
....
Well eahh, i hope they do not continue the new designs (but do not expect so). Especially the new black keyboard and the black bezel are particularly extremely ugly.
I´d like to see a unibody MBP 17" with the terific silver keyboard and the small-bezel display.
9600M-GT is ok, Quad-Core (2.8/3.0 GHz) would be nice, but are unlikely...
Again in short: Please, please, omit the black components
If Apple does, i seriously consider getting one of the current MBPs (my eyes are worth it)

You think Apple will have the 15" series looking one way, and the 17" completely different?
Not going to happen.
For anyone that watched the new macbook keynote:
Remember when steve was asked about the 17" at the Q&A session? He said it will come out later.
I take that as meaning "not discontinued, just delayed"
There should be a bump, as Intel is updating some CPUs in Q1 2009. The 2.8 GHz one will go up to 2.93 GHz, not sure about the other ones, but if the 2.53 gets the update, then it'll go to 2.67 GHz.We MAY see a slight bump in clock speed due to the extra space for heat dispersion...if that.
A bit optimistic if you ask me.I'm an Apple Update Realist, and I approve this message.
I'd say that the 17" gets the 2.8 update available to the 15" standard with a 3.xx BTO option.
A laptop can do more than a Blu-ray player? What kind of argument is this? By that logic, why does anyone need a laptop at all? They should just buy a desktop PC for a fraction of the cost and use it with a nice new LCD monitor.
Source?I had been reading that Apple may discontinue the 17".
No it isn't, when the original 17" MacBook Pro came out 3 months after the 15"'s.It's just a rumor at this point but it would make sense since they didn't make a unibody version of it. It's ridiculous when people say Apple didn't have time to do it.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!
Nehalem. In a laptop. In January 2009. Ha ha!
