I will wait until Macworld, if there is no news by then I will probably just get the 15"

And not to turn this into a flame war, but the whole "I hate glossy screens" thing is ridiculous. I have used the new laptops in the Apple Store, which is VERY well lit, and I had no trouble focusing on the screen. It's called adapting.

No, it's not called adapting, it's called personal preference. I have experience using both. I still prefer matte.

Not everyone is you which is why we want the option, not just one thing forced on everyone. Then we can all be happy and stop bickering.

Around MW we will see updates but I doubt anyone will be happy with them.

I'm kind of perplexed about this year's MW. See what happens.

I couldn't wait for the 17" mbp unibody to come out. So I ended up with a 15". Nonetheless, it has been a great machine. Give it another 6 months to a year.

Your Applle rep is an idiot. It wasn't revamped at all.

Didn't even get a new processor or GPU.

Where do people get their ignorance from anyway? (your rep that is not you)

Either way, there will be a 17" revamp/update to bring it in line with the current 15" MBP. Sad part is that it will only be in line with the current model.

Meaning you can just take what the 15" has now and put it into a bigger case. I doubt Apple will even give it anything other than an extra (and very useless) USB port.

All I can say is what I was told by the people in the store, One of the Assistant managers I know said the usual, "We know NOTHING" He sounded like Schultz from Hogans Hero's (Guess I am showing my age on that one) But I am holding out till January at a minimum and see what happens. I was looking at Expercom.com because they ship with bigger than stock HD's but I am not sure if that hose's the warranty or if I have to go back and forth between them for repairs. In all I'll probably just get it from the apple store, after I stop down and play with the new one for a while.

There have been no rumors or postings about a new MBP 17" that have any validity to them.

Sit back and wait is all we can do.

Like I said all we can do is Hurry up and wait. I am tossing around the idea of going with an iMac 24" if they do not come out with a decent upgrade to the 17" MBP. But I like the portability.

Well eahh, i hope they do not continue the new designs (but do not expect so). Especially the new black keyboard and the black bezel are particularly extremely ugly. :D

I´d like to see a unibody MBP 17" with the terific silver keyboard and the small-bezel display.

9600M-GT is ok, Quad-Core (2.8/3.0 GHz) would be nice, but are unlikely...

Again in short: Please, please, omit the black components

If Apple does, i seriously consider getting one of the current MBPs (my eyes are worth it :) )

If u like the way the 17's are now, just buy one. It seems like thats what u want. I, myself, want it to be updated to the black keyboard and glass screen.

You think Apple will have the 15" series looking one way, and the 17" completely different?

Not going to happen.

Nope, i don´t think so (as stated above). I just HOPE they omit the ugly black components (come on, Cupertino - the top-of-the-line product deserves some differentiation :) ).

But i agree, it´s not likely :)

the 17 is gonna be actually a 19'' because of the large bezel around the screen :)

i really hate that and the fact it will only be available in glossy

For anyone that watched the new macbook keynote:

Remember when steve was asked about the 17" at the Q&A session? He said it will come out later.

I take that as meaning "not discontinued, just delayed"

He just said it's also being refreshed - I took that to refer to the extra RAM and bigger HD being offered of the existing design. There has been no official word from Apple that a 17 inch unibody is coming.

We MAY see a slight bump in clock speed due to the extra space for heat dispersion...if that.
There should be a bump, as Intel is updating some CPUs in Q1 2009. The 2.8 GHz one will go up to 2.93 GHz, not sure about the other ones, but if the 2.53 gets the update, then it'll go to 2.67 GHz.

I'm an Apple Update Realist, and I approve this message.

I'd say that the 17" gets the 2.8 update available to the 15" standard with a 3.xx BTO option.
A bit optimistic if you ask me. :p

I'd say 2.67 GHz (or whatever CPU Intel has in the price range of the current 2.53 GHz) as default, with the 2.93 GHz as BTO.

What kind of argument is this? By that logic, why does anyone need a laptop at all? They should just buy a desktop PC for a fraction of the cost and use it with a nice new LCD monitor.
A laptop can do more than a Blu-ray player?

I had been reading that Apple may discontinue the 17".
Source?

It's just a rumor at this point but it would make sense since they didn't make a unibody version of it. It's ridiculous when people say Apple didn't have time to do it.
No it isn't, when the original 17" MacBook Pro came out 3 months after the 15"'s.

A laptop can do more than a Blu-ray player?

Huh? My point is the "why would you want a portable Blu Ray player" is ludicrous. You want it for the same reason you want a laptop to begin with, or a cell phone, or an iPod, or a Playstation Portable, or a...
