Just want to say, you’re not alone.

I had my black 16 Pro for a year, caseless, and not so much as a scratch.

After one day, my 17 Pro has some very tiny chipping on the edge of the camera plateau.

The Pro models are going to wear so badly outside cases because anodising is ****.

Thinking very hard about taking my 17 Pro back and keeping the 16 Pro. The 17 Pros feel like such a step back in this regard.
That's terrible. What color 17 Pro do you have?

I was going to get the Pro until I found out we in Australia still have the physical sim slot.. which decreases battery by approx 5% on the Pro Max.

I will buy one when I am travelling, without the Sim slot
Wow. So few countries have the physical SIM slot. Some ppl appreciate it.

Yes, but it's a shame because if you put a full-body case on, you can't see the phone's color at all. Apple disappointed me...

I am not making excuses but every year its always a loud group that will zero in on any thing negative they can find to take a crap on Apple and I wonder why they come here or buy apple products if the company sucks so much. I had a 15 pro max and upgraded to the 17 pro max. When the 15 pro max launch two years ago, the internet and these forums where saying titanium felt cheap compared to the iPhone 14’s stainless steel and how easily the titanium scuffed after a few pictures. Also, Jerry Rigs durability test where the 15 pro snaped in his hands with little effort and people melted down. After a while nobody cared and went along using their phones.

That said, I have a deep blue 17 pro max in a dbrand clear ghost case. I feel Apple didn't technically lie about durability. In all the tests I seen the front and back glass take some series damage before cracking. Additionally, the phones themselves have to take serious ( insane) levels of damage before they stop working. While it does suck the phones scuff or scratch easily, I am more concerned with the internals and the phones functioning after a simple drop more so than cosmetic damage. I rather have a cool running phone ( I am kinda of a power user) over a hot running one that looks prestine.

But Apple will probably do what they did with the iPhone 4 anntena gate and sent everyone a free case or something if the internet mob persists. I mean 98% of people out their phones in cases anyway. But let this be a lesson to Apple to not take sort cuts.

Taken my 17 Pro Orange back already and keeping the black 16 Pro

I'm gutted really as love the Orange and feel of the 17. Its one gram heavier and 0.5 mm thicker but feels way lighter and thinner that my 16 but end of the day the 48MP camera, 8 X and front camera isn't worth the risk of a phone which might look worn out in one year as I never use a case

All my phones rock a transparent clear case so this issue is non existent for me. As for the yellowing, I just replace the case yearly coz its cheap.

Problem is the Pro doesn’t run much cooler, lot of durability and aesthetic trade offs for a very small sustainable performance improvement.

How do you know?
The Air is only 1.8 degrees hotter than the Pro (6.3”) so you have a soft material that marks easily for no major benefit.

The major improvement comes from the chip running cooler in the first place.

The standard 17 is only .3 degrees warmer than the pro running the same test.

It feels like Apple cut production costs for the enclosure on the Pro and then sold it as a benefit with the new vapour chamber, if you look at the tear downs the vapour chambers connection to the A19 Pro is protracted enough that heat transfer efficiency isn’t great.

At this price...I don't expect the paint to chip. Does anyone really believe that Apple did not already know this was going to be an issue, yet, like Liquid Glass, they marched on, knowing better?

People have been saying their phones have been hot

This. Definitely. I do the same and my IP15 stayed in almost perfect condition. I remember my slate iphone ….5? 6? Got scuffed so much. Kinda reminds me of that .
