Yes definitely
You need to use Touch ID in order to fill a password
And if I am right the Apple keychain does not save the secret 3 digit number from your card.

And as I have many credits cards it helps me to remind the pin sometimes.

I forgot to ask; iOS or Mac? If it can fill with touch id on Mac, I'm so sold right now!

We support Touch ID on Mac and iOS. You invoke 1Password's extension, if it's locked you'll get a Touch ID prompt, upon unlock it'll either open the 1Password mini or fill if there's only one matching Login item.

In some article I read about 1password maintaining password history. Is this true with version 7?

Banks usually require me to change passwords every some months, so having a history will be huge and helpful!

Yup, every time you edit a password on a Login item it'll move the previous one to a list of past passwords. So you can view the password history for a particular item pretty easily. It'll show the date and previous password.

Any way to quickly import safari passwords into 1Password? Or do I have to manually do it?

There is not. Safari doesn't actually provide a reasonable solution to exporting data. We could "automate" it in a way I guess, but it would require you enter your user account password fore every single item it exports. So we'd kick the process off, but if you had 100 items you'd be prompted 100 times for your user account password.

If I buy a single user license, can I use the app on both my Mac air and iMac? or does that require 2 licenses?

You can use it on both. Our licenses are Per user, per platform. So you and you alone can use it on as many Macs as you own. We figure that's probably between 1 and 3 for most people, some users may go above and beyond that but we don't distinguish between computers in this case. But each individual user will require their own license.

I'm waiting on 1st to begin my trial/ subscription commencement. Kinda obsessive about dates since app subscription model started, so as to better keep track.

If I am not beating up an old tree again, would someone help me get started as to how they use this particular software?

Since I am all Apple, for passwords I am good with iCloud Keychain.

However, I see the use of this software for times when I have banking involved, where I need to keep track of last few passwords.

It would be most helpful to me and others if people would chime in with how they use this software, apart from the primary duty of passwords.

I use it for a lot of things, most notably for passwords though. Here are a few others:

1. Anything in my physical wallet gets tagged "wallet" so in the event I lose my wallet or it gets stolen I know exactly what was in it and what I lost.
2. Sharing of important data with family. Since I use a 1Password.com Family account I have a vault for each family member's house. Inside we store wifi passcodes, garage door codes, etc. Makes accessing things when someone is out of town or similar a lot easier when the important bits are always on your phone.
3. Watchtower is something you might find a lot more useful if you stored all of your password related items in it. It can notify you of breaches on other sites, compromised logins, password reuse, expiring passports, etc
4. Speaking of passports. I have a travel vault that has only my travel related items in it. In the event I lose any paperwork while on a trip it's all stored in that travel vault so I can at least reference it as necessary.

I am sure I'm missing something here but these are the main things. Hope that helps and hopefully others chime in as well.

Nice upgrade!

For me the benefit of 1Password (I use the license model) is the ability to share the vault in any folder I have access to. I prefer sharing stuff within my own secure 'zero-knowledge' cloud container versus a third party (ie, iCloud, Google, etc). While I certainly don't use ALL the features 1PW offers, as my first forray into using pw managers a few years ago, it's been a winner in my book. ;)

Ah, I had forgotten Watch Tower. Very, very useful addition. :)

I'm going to create a "wallet" tag, great idea!

I have the licensed version of 1P6 that means I can't create more than 1 vault, correct? Otherwise, creating a separate travel vault is great idea.

You can create multiple vaults. I think in version 6 it's in the File > New Vault menu, or it might be under the 1Password menu there to create a new one. One of those two :)

Check out https://enpass.io Very similar to 1Password. Sync your password file via major cloud services and devices.

Yes, suggest alternatives. I don't see Enpass on MacRumors helping readers with questions.

I think it's perfectly fine to suggest alternatives. The forum is not run by AgileBits after all. Only thing that makes me a bit skeptical is the user just joined today to make that single post, not going into much detail in terms of personal experience with the product or why one would prefer it over 1Password... But maybe it's unfair to jump to conclusions there and suspect advertising/shilling on their part.

Have been a user for a few years and like the product although I admit am still on the fence about this upgrade and still do not prefer the subscription model (although you are making some good points about the features available through your system, just the "honeypot" aspect is hard to get over even with your encrypted container paradigm).

My question: do you have plans soon (i.e., with v7) to include hardware key support? Say, for U2F or NFC like through a Yubikey product. I noticed a competitor just included both U2F and NFC hardware key support since Apple more broadly opened the access to devs and thought it may be a nice option. If v7.x gets this then may push me over to get a new license. Thanks!

I love this upgrade. Honestly, 1Password is one of the best apps I use, period. And one of the only I'm willing to buy on subscription. Love the Watchtower, too.

We do not have plans to introduce hardware key support. There are just simply too many devices incapable of using it and it's difficult to use on many devices. Also, we wouldn't expect very many users to actually use it. If we're going to devote a great deal of time and effort adding support for something it would have to be something we expect a great deal of users to actually use.

Then there's the matter of providing technical support for it.

The thing is even if we added this type of support it wouldn't be involved in the encryption process. It would just be an alternative to MFA that we already support.

As far as the honeypot aspect, it's really not an issue. Our servers do not have any meaningful data about you or your data. All we have is encrypted blobs of data. We know how many items you have, but what kind of items those are? No clue. An attacker would have to gain access to our server AND somehow gain access to your Master Password and Secret Key. Neither of which are ever sent to us. Give our Secret Key page a read for a quick overview of what the Secret Key is. If you want more, give our White Paper a read, it's technical, but pretty approachable at the same time.

Given the frequency that I use your software, I have decided to go to the subscription model as a gesture of support and I just started my account :) . But I want to know if I must use your website for syncing vaults now (I don't really see the option to sync the vaults from elsewhere)? Won't your website now be obvious for hackers to try to break in and get all the passwords? Should I or can I continue to use Dropbox (not to say they are secure at all but ref. my previous point) to sync my vaults?

Thanks.

Just checked my iOS 1Password app and there are two vaults now. One is the original vault sync'ed with Dropbox, and then another one from the 1Password.com account. So will they sync with each other or I need to choose to save to the 1Password.com vault so that it will be reflected on my Mac? It's a bit confusing to me.

They can't get your passwords. If they get access to our server they get encrypted text. To decrypt that they will have to:

1. Guess your Master Password AND Secret Key, they're combined to derive the encryption keys. This is near impossible or so extremely costly it isn't worth it outside of a potential very specific targeted attack on an individual, and even then like I said, extremely costly...

2. Find a way to get you to give them those two pieces of information

They can't acquire it from us, we never have them.

I definitely suggest reading the previously linked to pages though, they should answer a great deal of your concerns regarding the security of your data on an account.

As far as sync goes, you can certainly create your own local vaults and sync them using Dropbox or iCloud if you wish, but you're responsible for managing those and you're losing a great deal of the benefits of what come with the subscription.

You can copy your data from your Primary vault to the Personal vault (and create more in your account) if you wish by using this guide.

OK, here goes my install story, users kindly chime in with inputs if you think I am doing something incorrectly and could benefit from a better workflow.

I signed up a month long trial and an annual subscription. Thereafter, I have started populating the vault with my logins.

Here is the deal so far, and this is strictly between macOS and iOS only.

1. iCloud Keychain wins with simplicity and omnipresence, on iOS. Every single app, to which I have a password stored in keychain, gets reflected seamlessly between the Mac and the iPhone, be it Safari or be it any app on iOS that requires a password.

This does not work as well with 1Password. For example, Twitter app had the 1Password logo, while several other apps that I use, did not. The vault had logins for them, but there was no way for me to input from 1Password. This is where iCloud Keychain wins, on Apple's own devices. Again, please offer any help if you believe I am doing something incorrectly.

2. After installing the Safari extension, 1Password prompts for login fill-ups as well as for new login entries and even updates. This works fine on some sites, and not on some. Devs, do let me know if I need to point you to the site where I could not use generator to fill up a password. With its built-in support for iCloud Keychain, Safari is able to fill up some sites without fuss whereas 1Password failed to fill up and Safari did not let me paste the password generated from 1Password either.

The experience on iOS apps is definitely in favour of iCloud Keychain. Even when using Safari and accessing Gmail, iCloud Keychain prompts with a list of accounts I want to use, while there is no way for me to access 1Password from that screen. There must be something I am doing wrong, surely?

However, that said, I like a lot of things about 1Password, for which I took up the trial and subscription: WatchTower that will help me when breaches occur, and an overall better control over passwords and definitely, better passwords. Also, I setup 2FA wherever possible, since an OTP is so easy to use with 1Password. So, definitely a more secure environment online due to this.

Here is what I did upon filling 1Password with my logins. I decided I will have to have a copy with iCloud, so as to maintain the seamlessness I love with passwords in iOS apps. If I only had a Mac, 1Password would not have been any different from iCloud in seamlessness.

So, what I did was I would generate a password, change it on the website, and then update iCloud with that password too. Is there anyone else using such a workflow or is it just me?

I am thinking of using 1Password as a big brother, a watch tower that takes care of my passwords, maintains history securely (I previously maintained historic passwords in Notes) and there are some feature enhancements that lend an obvious upper hand to the spartan iCloud Keychain and, therefore, my decision to take up a subscription.

There is a bug that I found.

Generating a password from the main app and from the menu bar using the same criteria creates passwords that are labelled differently. Invariably, the passwords created by the app directly from the main window are fantastic, while the ones from the menu bar are just excellent, all password generation criteria being the same. How does this happen?

If an app doesn't have the 1Password logo you just go to the 1Password app and copy the login and password and go back to the app and paste it.

If you can't see the login you saved on a website probably you need to add the website address to the login entry in 1Password. Sometimes the registration website address is not the same as the login address that's why.

on iOS Safari you just add 1Password to the share sheet and you will be able to fill passwords.
