There are 3 types of 1Password users:
  1. People who loved 1Password, bought it & thought they owned it forever with unlimited updates
  2. People who loved 1Password and bought 1Password but were ok not really owning (aka the subscription model change)
  3. People who started off with the subscription model because they loved 1Password ... and keep subscribing
No one's obligated to be any of those, but I fall under #1 ... today I'm using Secrets primarily and Keychain.

I'm not sure I'd ever go back to 1Password with their offer to host my credentials.

I think the only way that changes is if Apple itself takes notice of its business model & enterprise offerings and decides to take over AgileBits. That would be pretty cool. I don't think $2.99 a month is worth it despite how incredibly awesome 1Password is. I also don't think it's wise to hand over the keys, but maybe with Apple at the helm, I could be convinced. And if Apple did all that, I bet it'd get rolled into iCloud+ without a price change. Because as someone once said about Dropbox, "it's just a feature."

* They changed keyboard shortcuts and removed features, like revealing password by pressing the option-key?

You have to renable that. Under Security in Preferences.

This is me, I don't care as long as the price is fair.

$35/year is fine, that's less than $3 a month for an app that inserts itself into all my workflows daily. If they make the sub prohibitively expensive I would jump ship.

I switched to BitWarden and run my own repository in a docker instance on my Synology, I'm in full control over all of my passwords!
Congratulations - you can do that in 1Password as well (even without subscription)

Serious question: How is 1Password different than macOS's built-in password features (macOS offers synced keychain, 2FA, and password notes).

What features does 1Password offer that I'm not already getting?

Edit: Not counting cross-platform compatibility. Does it offer any other features macOS lacks?
It let's you store images/files/etc with each entry, which I find to be very useful. One example: I keep an image of my driver's license and car title with my login for our department of motor vehicles.

You meant

1*. People who purchased a new license for every version upgrade that required it.

Your #1 point refers to no one as you could never buy 1 Password and expect unlimited free version updates. That was never a thing.

They did not. Go to any of your passwords, hover over the field, click the down arrow, select Show In Large Type.
Was referring to local vaults - pity, I thought it was great to have the option and I don’t think it cannibalized on their subscription revenue

I'm still using 1P due to great cross platform support (and my year of families re-subbed for like $14 somehow)

Guessing I'll re-evaluate in 10 months

It's frustrating that I can't even really consider so many of the Apple/iCloud centric options due to needing access/usage on Windows side.

I can't seem to install 1Password for Safari extension. it installs fine from MAS, but I can't see it or enable it under Safari preferences > Extensions.

anyone else experiencing this?

EDIT:
It's fixed. Quit Safari, open terminal and paste in this command, reboot Safari and the extensions is visible. :)

Talking about the features they removed:
  • No local vaults (just cloud - who thinks that uploading sensitive data like passwords is a good idea?)
  • No more local syncing (was possible till the last Version 7.x) and a very useful way to keep all devices in sync without using any cloud solution
If the don't come up with a self-hosted version soon I will move on to Bitwarden.

You have been uploading sensitive data for VERY LONG TIME with Apple, including iCloud Keychain.

1Password security algorithm and implementation are very secure. 1P user for 13 years.

No contest with the current iCloud Keychain. Install it (try it for 14 days free) and in minutes you will find HOW POWERFUL 1Password is.

Strongbox all the way. Open source, self hostable, keepass compatible. Secure your vault with a long diceware password and a key file and then even keep it on iCloud or other generic service to enable sync across devices. The main bits are free, or you can sub or buy outright if you want the extras. I wouldn’t do it any other way than the keepass way.

I see no mention from Agilebits whether 1Password 8 is coming to the Mac App Store. All I see are instructions to download it from their site.
