Does version 8 still allow hosting vaults on iCloud for sync, instead of on their servers? I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.
That's a local vault and that was a way to sync your local vault yourself. Last time I checked the ability to have your own local vault was removed in 1PW8.Does version 8 still allow hosting vaults on iCloud for sync, instead of on their servers? I haven't been able to find the answer anywhere.
Thanks. I'll stay on version 7 then until I find another solution. That's a local vault and that was a way to sync your local vault yourself. Last time I checked the ability to have your own local vault was removed in 1PW8.
You need more than your master password to access 1Password on an unauthorized device. There’s a random master secret that is needed along side your master password.I still don’t understand what makes these password managers more secure like … if you know the master password, you have access to EVERY password instead of maybe the password of one site
Edit: I don’t understand all the downvotes. I was not questioning the tool itself ? I was just wondering. I’d be more scared of my 1Password account being hacked and all the passwords that go along with it than 1 password of 1 random page
I don’t mind the subscription - but I don’t want my data on the same server that I use to login to access said data. I moved from 1P to Strongbox and host the Keepass file on iCloud. Only hesitation is I don’t trust Apple/the iCloud network at all since they can’t figure out how to fix bookmark, page, note, etc sync issues after 2 years.
I see no mention from Agilebits whether 1Password 8 is coming to the Mac App Store. All I see are instructions to download it from their site.
I'm doing the same, for the same reason.Thanks. I'll stay on version 7 then until I find another solution.
I don't use Apple Keychain much, no - it has wireless passwords, but other than that not much. Keychain isn't good enough, and to avoid it interfering with 1password I turn off passwords, credit cards etc from keychain as one of the first steps on a new system setup.I am genuinely curious for the "I will never store a password in the cloud" crowd. Do you turn off iCloud and more specifically iCloud keychain? If not, you are storing passwords in the cloud?
With 1Password, your passwords are NEVER sent unencrypted. They are encrypted and decrypted locally using a combination of your key and password. Without both of those your passwords can not be decrypted by AgileBits nor anyone else.
Gangrene is superior to LastPass. Utterly hideous app.Is this superior to LastPass? Bitwarden?
Typically, that just takes a while for any vendor who supports both - the approval process takes time.I don't think they are going to push it via the Mac App Store, which is rather annoying.
Can we declare compensation or other connections, please?![]()

No contest with the current iCloud Keychain. Install it (try it for 14 days free) and in minutes you will find HOW POWERFUL 1Password is.
Plus the user manages the encryption key.Well, two things. Firstly, you are presumably (hopefully!) using two-factor authentication with a password manager. So a malicious actor would need both your device (which can identify you with biometrics) AND the master password.
But just as importantly, it automates the process of having different randomly generated passwords for each service you use. So if one random website you signed up for 5 years ago is compromised, that loss is siloed off and doesn't allow someone to access all your other accounts.
They definitely offer offline storage, as I’ve used it while not connected to the internet. Minimalist utilizes iCloud to sync the database b/w device, and iCloud stores items both locally and in the cloud. You are correct in that it is not cross platform, and I don’t think it will ever be, so that is obviously a rather large minimizing factor.Minimalist password manager looks cool but doesn't offer offline storage nor cross platform like android and windows I appreciate the fast they offer one tie payment
It looks like an Electron app.
Sad.
They took $620 million dollars in series C funding and they gave their users an electron app.

1Password, a password management platform, closed a $620 million Series C funding, raising the company's valuation to $6.8 billion.thinkremote.com
So very sad.
I realized apple passwords and Secrets was enough to cover my needs.
Happy.
I don't have to deal with 1password ever again.
Priceless.
I pay subscription, why I cannot mantain a local vault as in 7 version?
I switched to BitWarden and run my own repository in a docker instance on my Synology, I'm in full control over all of my passwords!
What? 1Password Family is $4.99 a month and Netflix is $9.99 for the cheapest 1 stream, non-HD. Yup, same price. They went to subscription after I bought the app. I needed a multi-user solution, and their family plan was the price of Netflix, so now they're gone. I went to Bitwarden for free and I couldn't be happier to put 1password in my rear view mirror. I self host and I can give whoever I want access to whatever I want.
Is that independently verifiable? With 1Password, your passwords are NEVER sent unencrypted. They are encrypted and decrypted locally using a combination of your key and password. Without both of those your passwords can not be decrypted by AgileBits nor anyone else.
