Initially thought it said "prices will be going up to $12 per year."

Then I saw this

and realized it's going up by $12 per year.

That makes the individual plan price a 33.44% increase. Yikes!
I mean, their F1 sponsorship doesn't pay itself. (Yes, I know they have already raised a lot of money and they eventually planning an IPO but when I read about the F1 deal I knew price hikes were coming...)

Switched 99% of my usage to Apple Passwords, but I still use 1Password for:
1. Storing credit card info securely, in a way that I can easily access for reference. What's the best way to do this without 1Password, encrypted/locked Notes?
2. Sharing passwords as a one-off, rather than creating a "Shared Group" in Passwords. Any good alternative here?
The old Keychain Access had a section for Secure Notes. Try looking for it in the new Passwords app?

I love Minimalist but it’s sunsetting in August. I’ve bought Uplock and moved some stuff to Apple Passwords, but it’s super clunky. I may be in the minority, but I dislike the fluff of most managers. Item icons specifically are mostly grey monograms, adding nothing of value. Keepass has some great functionality but is held back by outdated design, a fate for most FOSS. Maybe it’s time I build my own…

You can save your credit card numbers in Apple Wallet now (including without using Apple Pay)

So, customers in US have approved the price increase?! Perks when EU regulations working great for EU customers.

I can recommend Bitwarden, it's free and way way better than Apple's passwords app!

I switched to a bitwarden password manager after my MacBook keychain wiped all my passwords (don't ask me how, I don't know and I don't understand, I was completely devastated!). Unfortunately, they also wiped the passwords on all my other devices. This loss of trust in Apple’s security measures has led me to make this change and I never looked back.

I went ahead and just purchased the Proton Pass lifetime offer. It will take some time to break even, but with these price increases, it will take less time.

I loved 1password back in the days when you only had to pay for it once per major version, and syncing the vault to any old folder just worked. It's just a UI over AES though it's not particularly special or worthy of a subscription.

Dashlane can do these things.

They haven't raised the price since the subscription was launched, I think in 2016, so 10 years ago. My family plan is going up $1 a month. My parents and in-laws can use it easily, and I'll probably stay.

Netflix was $9.99 a month back in 2016 and is now $17 a month. They also increased their price 6 times since 2016.

Risky considering Apple’s really poor account recovery should you get locked out.
That is the truth! My daughter learned the hard way.

I think it’s time for proton pass. Until now I used 1Password and received today the mail. Proton pass was just a backup. I guess it’s time to switch.

You can use the Wallet app for that now
Apple wallet promotes Apple pay. With wallet you can’t update the card due to receiving a new card. Won’t show you the CVV number and worse yet every several months the Apple store asks you to reenter it. Doesn’t support zipcode that many websites now require when paying by card. Finally only allows autofill of your default card on websites.

I'm quite happy with a KeePass compatible database as a backup. Cloud-synced PW managers are very convenient. But in my opinion you need a backup solution, at least for important accounts.

If you install iCloud for Windows, you can view and manage your iCloud passwords on your PC. You can also have passwords autofilled in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox.

This is what my mom does. I've configured her Edge browser to only use iCloud as the password manager.

You can only install iCloud for windows if you are logged into a Microsoft account and use the Microsoft store. We have a couple windows computers here at home, and I'm not connecting my local account to Microsoft.

I would keep my Mac logged out of Apple if it was feasible.

Netflix probably has to spend 100x whatever 1password does per plan on bandwidth and compute. Even if they priced individual plans at $1/mo 1password's infra margins should be fantastic.
