Or use Bitwarden. Free and open sourceI can’t imagine paying $4/month for something Apple offers for free. I get wanting a solution for people who use Windows computers, but for that price, just look up the password on your phone and type it on your PC.
it works on the Mac tooOr use Bitwarden. Free and open source
Better not be using an M processor then. 1Password 6 runs on Rosetta. Last week I exported all my passwords from it as I didn't migrate everything to my 1Password alternative being Bitwarden: a solution which resembles 1Password of the early days.Still on 1Password 6 here. Some update in 2026 has stopped Firefox autocompleting fields so I feel a switch to Apple Passwords is in the offing...
What increased utility? If anything it's gotten worse. I find the parts of 1Password don't know what they're doing - it'll say "unlock 1Password" after it's unlocked.See how the headline even goes for a negative angle. Doesn't mention anything in the notice all the increased utility it provides or that cost of labor and running a business in general have greatly increased in the past couple years. MacRumors always wants to go with the most negative and click-bait headlines.
Plus you can self-host vaultwarden if you wish.it works on the Mac too
you sure if you scroll down they have a more purchases option futher down which contain lifetime Uplock wise just checked itAnother Apple passwords convert here. I did miss the credit card syncing function, but I've found a workaround for that with an app called Access (now Uplock) but even they have moved to a subscription model vs. the original onetime payment.
I understand that developers need to eat, but not everything requires continual development that justifies subscription based pricing. Everything is moving to 'value-based' pricing rather than covering the cost plus a reasonable profit. And then they boil the frog with these constant small prices increases. Ugh!
Are you sure? Unlike Apple's App Store, I've been able to download free apps without needing to use a Microsoft account or logged into the Microsoft Store. You can only install iCloud for windows if you are logged into a Microsoft account and use the Microsoft store. We have a couple windows computers here at home, and I'm not connecting my local account to Microsoft.
I would keep my Mac logged out of Apple if it was feasible.
Fully agree with this specific aspect. Dropbox is now also a huge bloated slow glitchy Electron POS garbage that does a ton of useless stuff nobody wants, unlike the early Dropbox which was small and fast and did the only <one> thing people wanted which was to sync a Dropbox folder to multiple machines. Personally use Maestral client on Mac now (small Python GUI util) to sync Dropbox files, for the couple of times a year I need to use the Dropbox sync functionality."For me, 1Password is like the Dropbox of password managers"
I've been getting errors when it tries to sync with Dropbox, too. Happened after an update which I believe triggered the latest nag at the top of the 1Password Android app telling me to switch over, so I assume it's deliberate.Still on 1Password 6 here. Some update in 2026 has stopped Firefox autocompleting fields so I feel a switch to Apple Passwords is in the offing...
This has prompted me to think of ditching 1P and moving to Apple’s Passwords.
Is there an export function in 1P, or import function in Passwords….?
or is it a case of going through every password stored individually and copying/pasting into Apple’s app?!
I have hundreds..,,,,,!!!
