Thought I might have missed 1PW, but I haven't. Certainly don't see any point in having yet another subscription for an app that I can do 99 percent of the stuff I can do with the included Passwords app for free.

Ehhh... I ditched them a while ago. They were fine, but Apples Password app is fine enough for me and it's free. Tired of these subscription models.

Apple Passwords isn't perfect, but it's 99% of the way there with 1Passwords and was beyond happy to ditch it.

Had they went cheaper, I would have maybe considered swapping back at $9.99/yr but $50?

pffff, I hope whatever cost analysis price increase they ran predicted how many customers they will lose. $50 a year for a password manager is nuts.

Used 1Password until version 7.9 and switched to Apple Passwords last year. I did not want to subscribe to a freaking password manager.

See how the headline even goes for a negative angle. Doesn't mention anything in the notice all the increased utility it provides or that cost of labor and running a business in general have greatly increased in the past couple years. MacRumors always wants to go with the most negative and click-bait headlines.

It's his fault

Still on 1Password 6 here. Some update in 2026 has stopped Firefox autocompleting fields so I feel a switch to Apple Passwords is in the offing...
Better not be using an M processor then. 1Password 6 runs on Rosetta. Last week I exported all my passwords from it as I didn't migrate everything to my 1Password alternative being Bitwarden: a solution which resembles 1Password of the early days.

I quit using 1Password when they moved to cloud and introduced subscriptions not too long after I upgraded the licenses on all my platforms again. They lost my sympathy then, even though I was with them since day 1. I've never looked back since. Not sure if I'm going to keep my family account with Bitwarden as they're USA based while Proton Pass is Europe based.

What increased utility? If anything it's gotten worse. I find the parts of 1Password don't know what they're doing - it'll say "unlock 1Password" after it's unlocked.

I do like sharing between family vaults. I don't like F1 racing.

I think it's getting near time to leave. I wish I had never "upgraded" from 6. Proton Pass is probably the way to go.

Another Apple passwords convert here. I did miss the credit card syncing function, but I've found a workaround for that with an app called Access (now Uplock) but even they have moved to a subscription model vs. the original onetime payment.

I understand that developers need to eat, but not everything requires continual development that justifies subscription based pricing. Everything is moving to 'value-based' pricing rather than covering the cost plus a reasonable profit. And then they boil the frog with these constant small prices increases. Ugh!
you sure if you scroll down they have a more purchases option futher down which contain lifetime Uplock wise just checked it

Also no one seem to metion roboform which is cross platform and comes in 1yr 3yr and 5 years plans and allow local vaults.

You can only install iCloud for windows if you are logged into a Microsoft account and use the Microsoft store. We have a couple windows computers here at home, and I'm not connecting my local account to Microsoft.

I would keep my Mac logged out of Apple if it was feasible.
Are you sure? Unlike Apple's App Store, I've been able to download free apps without needing to use a Microsoft account or logged into the Microsoft Store.

I am considering leaving 1password but I also have an Android phone, Bitwarden is a good alternative for cross platform, they have a free plan. I still have a few more months to think about this, but moving away still is a consideration, I am sick and tired of subscriptions and charging more and more, like MS Office, every year it gets more and more expensive.

"For me, 1Password is like the Dropbox of password managers"
Fully agree with this specific aspect. Dropbox is now also a huge bloated slow glitchy Electron POS garbage that does a ton of useless stuff nobody wants, unlike the early Dropbox which was small and fast and did the only <one> thing people wanted which was to sync a Dropbox folder to multiple machines. Personally use Maestral client on Mac now (small Python GUI util) to sync Dropbox files, for the couple of times a year I need to use the Dropbox sync functionality.

So I thought I'd use this chance to try out Apple Passwords again.

I did an import and thought things were going well until I realized it doesn't store credit cards like 1Password does.

Those are in Apple Pay & Wallet in Settings on macOS.

Apple has decided you can't use any of those features unless you have Automatic Security Updates turned on.

I thought lengths they'd go to "force folks to upgrade" couldn't get any lower and I was wrong.

There is no reason at all for these particular requirements to be tied together.

I've been getting errors when it tries to sync with Dropbox, too. Happened after an update which I believe triggered the latest nag at the top of the 1Password Android app telling me to switch over, so I assume it's deliberate.

Since most of my passwords have long been switched over to something else, it's time to go through and delete a bunch of old accounts at systems I no longer use and delete it. I'll probably kill off my Dropbox as well; I only kept it around because 1Password never expanded to use the other backup services (Drive, etc.) like they previously promised, when they pivoted to a subscription instead.

This has prompted me to think of ditching 1P and moving to Apple’s Passwords.

Is there an export function in 1P, or import function in Passwords….?
or is it a case of going through every password stored individually and copying/pasting into Apple’s app?!

I have hundreds..,,,,,!!!

Yes on export/import. Give it a shot.
Apple Passwords has gotten pretty good.

For now 1PW is still the one to use for me. I use it for more than just passwords. 1 PW has categories for Secure Notes, Credit Cards, Identities, Bank Accounts, Passports and Driver's Licenses, and other useful categories. Maybe if and when Apple adds similar categories I will switch full time. But for now, I am sticking with 1PW.
