Try different cables and USB ports.

Well unless the apple store magically supplied me with more than one cable that's not going to happen. As for trying more than one USB ports i did that, i tried all 5 of my ports and nothing worked. I tried to restore 7 times so far and no luck.

what exactly does this fix? im not reading all 15 pages..

Absolutely nothing worth mentioning. People have convinced themselves that it's fixed everything from 3G, to sms lag to contact lag, to wifi lag, - heck it even fixed my car so now it fires up first time.

Believe you me, if there were any specific fix worth mentioning, Apple would be advertising it, or at least someone would know for sure.

I can, however, tell you for a fact that the modem firmware has changed, as that is something you can check for yourself. What that has done, aside from making unlocking more difficult... who knows? My 3G speed hasn't changed.

Yep. The moment someone said SMS text lag was gone and phone was more responsive, I knew it was because of the update restart, not because of any major fixes. Same thing happened with 2.0.1, people thought all the lag was gone, but soon found out it slowly returned. So I couldn't believe people were jumping the gun again this round.

Like 2.01 it just slowed 3G speeds to a halt for me. Prior to 2.01 or 2.02 I was getting 160k/sec download speeds from testmyiphone.com. After updating to 2.01 this was crippled so I returned the phone. I installed 2.02 this morning and speeds are crippled again... back to .33x the speed of EDGE. How the hell could things be so different for so many different people? I'd get it if my speeds were always bad, but they used to be good...

Update went fine, although once the update starting applying, it took a loooooong time to apply and verify. Not good for my nerves. I never **** myself when I update my Mac or my iPod Video like I do with this thing.

My homescreen just scrolled itself one pip to the right, all on it's own. That's just spooky. No wiggly icons on scrolling though.

So starts 100 million apps updates trailing in its wake:

Vicinity bombs back to the homescreen more often than not, and shows blank listing screens - like really blank - no grey dividing lines even.

TubeStatus just shows a 'updating' spinning gear until you switch off the phone and turn it back on again. Not a reset, just a power cycle.

Stanza works ok

My PhoneSabre is intact - how come others are losing theirs?

The rest are inconsequential. I'll get to those later. It's after midnight in the UK now.

Don't know about 3G, no coverage at home. Will have a look in the office tomorrow. Only one bar normally, so any improvement is an improvement.

Good luck, everyone.

Still one bar on 3G. I reckon all this update did was lock jailbroken phones down again. The modem software version is the only tangible change from all these 14 pages. The rest is false perception/wishful thinking/plain ignorance. ;)

With apologies again, but it's become apparent that the skipping around bug in text fields in Safari actually hasn't been fixed. Or rather it has been fixed for some sites that previously had problems (like Transport for London) but not others (like Wikipedia).

My previous frustration that this still happens is restored.

For me ... only thing i can say for certain is that call quality is improved when i'm at home ... i'm in a 3g deadspot so i'm on EDGE and even then the calls could sometimes drop or just be difficult to get a clear call ... thats not the case now .... its a lot clearer and crisp audio.

SMS lag is about the same for me ... contacts are a tiny bit better but again i'm putting that down to a reboot as much as anything.

I am finding the process of switching apps to be better and more responsive but i would recommend anyone wait 24 - 48 hours (without a restart) before making a definitive judgement on responsiveness

Safari still locks up. Just now I had to hold the top button down to reboot . It just froze again.

Come on apple this is getting annoying now.

I have to say this phone is great but the most in apple experience I've had.

Please please please please get 2.1out and I hope you sort this out .

I still love it but my iPhone is definetly human and not a deity

Whoever gave the ok for the release of 2.0.2 needs to burn in the most painful magma filled pit of hades.

Never had major problems with 2.0 and 2.0.1 but let the phone upgrade itself. Now I can't get to the homescreen by pressing the home button. When I do restart the phone Safari has been rendered into a blank screen.

Downgrading now....

Burn, burn burn.

Apple you get an "F" for software design. Now get back to your room and start again. This time try reading the instructions !! I want the finished software on my desk by next week. If you don't hand it in on time then its detention !

To you people:

My sms lag is actually gone. I have no restarted since the update, and I updated within the hour that it came out. I have about 15 conversations with a decent amount.

My phone contacts is still laggy, but I believe that is due to the indexing that the phone does for searching. I haven't had any other problems 2.0.2 is working fine for at least one person here.

So I've updated to 2.02... and nothing new yet.

Calendars still screwed up by them being duped and colours too
Marking system for Podcast still get confused if I have listen to them or not.

But
Safari works much better not crashing on long pages.
