Hey,

Someone previously posted that for CTO orders, they were offering a 50$ credit or an exchange for the upgraded model. You can call 1-800-MY-APPLE for more information and find out the specifics in your case.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm looking for e-mail option, since I won't be able to use a phone for at least 1 more week.

I'm outside the US now, actually using the new machine for some research.

Oh sorry...I assumed you were in the US since your original post said "I am not outside the US now.."

In any case go to the main apple store website and you can chat with apple support there. I don't know if an email actually exists.

Here is a link: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APP...e.woa/wa/RSLID?nnmm=acct&sf=wHF2F2PHCCCX72KDY

You should see a "chat with us" link there.

But kastenbrust also gets a far longer battery, far greater resolution. To me, that's worth the extra $300 that he paid. Choosing the 17" MBP never had much to do with the 1.6" of extra screen. It was those other things that were important. ;)
Ditto... they outweigh it anyday :)

No luck in there, maybe it's because I'm outside the US now, the chat might be regional only.

The thing is that I'm only afraid that the 14 days will pass and I still wont have contacted them.

For everyone else, is there a general support apple e-mail I can use to contact them?

Have you tried emailing support@apple.com? Also, there is the Steve Jobs email, sjobs@apple.com I think. You may want to try both addresses just so that you have your complete on file within the first 14 days. I tried looking around but couldn't find an email support option for the Apple Store. Email support only exists for iTunes from the looks of it.

is there a way to update the processor with a new faster processer, so if you have a 2.53 can you for say pull it out and put the 2.66 in?

I'm pretty annoyed - since when has an Apple laptop lasted a handful of months before being outdated?

Eh? Mate is 2.53 to 2.66. It's hardly an entire new machine. You wo't even notice the difference I doubt.
As for the 2.93, haha, people on here stated it would never be in the 15" machine as it wouldn't run cool enough, oh how wrong they were!

Also agree, now im going to return my 17" and get a 15", theres just no point in me having the 17", the extra 2 inches screen space simply isn't worth $300.

As someone who paid the $300 to exchange from the higher-end 15 to the 17, I would definitely say the upgrade was worth it.

Even leaving out the former slight CPU-speed increase between the 15 and 17 (that got erased as of today), with the 17 you're still getting:

1) A much higher-quality, higher-resolution screen;

2) Larger, better-quality internal cooling fans, and lower internal operating temperatures;

3) Noticeably better sound from the internal speakers;

4) The extra USB port;

5) A debatable ergonomic advantage with the positioning of the trackpad on the 17, versus that on the 15. With the 15 (trackpad very close to the front edge), I was often having accidental instances of "no trackpad response" from having part of my hand also touching the trackpad at the same time. It was an annoyance that I'm sure I could have eventually worked around, but making the change from the 15 to the 17 (trackpad farther from the front) eliminated the issue for me completely.

Just to clarify about the screen size: it's not about "inches" it's about pixels.

15-inch 1440x900 = 1296000 pixels.

17-inch 1920x1200 = 2304000 pixels.

I'm now deciding between the 15 and 17...

Coming from a 6 year old 1600X1200 15 inch notebook, I feel like I have NO workspace at all on a 1440X900. The screen is smaller, yet it has bigger pixels than the 17, this makes no sense. That being said, I'm still thinking about the 15 now since it's just as fast as the 17 and I could afford to buy a 24 inch monitor to go with it for the same price. 1680X1050 on the 15.4 (what it should have) would make the decision easier.

this update makes the 17" more appealing.
extra 2" and better screen, even with matte option
extra 2gb of ram
extra hard drive space
better graphic card
more ports
for the same amount of money

Funny, I was thinking (before today's minor speed-bump) that the next logical update to the 15 would include exactly that. As well as hopefully better screen quality in general.

I just bought my 2.53ghz macbook pro yesterday...guess i will go in tomorrow to exchange it. Don't the 15" and 17" have same graphics cards?

UK prices are bordering on the ridiculous for this latest refresh.

Lotta mac products are climbing out of the reachable range again. Thats all i used to hear for reasons why no one got a mac, cuz they were way expensive. But that was before OSXs time

i wondering with this CPU upgrade today by apple are they preparing for snow leopard launch on the next few weeks???? With that in mind, with the different of .13Ghz will it be much different with Snow Leopard then.

Excited and Dissapointed

I ordered my new macbook pro at a apple retailer on friday afternoon and just had a look this morning like the rest of you on the apple store and noticed the new standard of the 2.66Ghz processor. i upgraded the hardrive to 7200rpm and was wondering because the time between when i ordered (27/02/09) and when the new update came out on the store (3/03/09 or 4/03/09) whether apple would have automatically upgraded me to the 2.66ghz processor, and if not whether it would be possible to upgrade me even though i have added the 7200rpm HDD to the order + if it is possible whether the 1300mhz is worth waiting another week for.
NOTE. i know i dont need the extra clocking speed for what i do, but when you spend so much money on a notebook you really want it to be perfect as well as to futureproof it a little bit more.

Thanks in advance

Call them, they should and will upgrade you. Demand to be as your paying them for a brand new product they no longer sell as brand new. It's no longer an option on the website or if you walk into a store today to buy one, the 2.66 will be the only available machine.

Thanks, i just needed reassurance :)
