So am I getting this?

The 17 unibody now come standard with dou 2.93, and not a BTO?

Tye

No, theyre both standard 2.66

anyway, WHATS WITH RAM?!
is it 8GB limit for both now? if that is so, that the 2.53/2.8 users were screwed.
beitchez.

My 15'' is due to deliver today with 2.53GHz. It shipped yesterday, but I highly doubt I'll be getting the new one.:( I don't think it is worth the hassle to send back.

If you ring apple they will upgrade you for free if brought within 14 days of something new coming out. I had my pre unibody 17" MBP upgraded for free that way.

I received my 2.53 macbook pro last Friday, I am living in Singapore and I just cut off the sticker that sticks the outer of the box, I didn't take the macbook pro out from the box at all. May I know where in the Apple Store webpage list the details about a return policy that I can change my macbook pro if a new product is released in 14 days time? Am I able to exchange it with only the sticker is cut?

Pls, I need to know!!!

You can still upgrade to 6GB outside from Apple.

I'd say give this a day or 2 and let the guys tear into these updated machines and see if they will support 8GB. If they will I will not be happy about it but there is nothing I can do with my MBP. I got mine back on Feb 2 so the 14 day grace period is out for me.

This is the best laptop I have ever had and I know its gonna last for a long time so Im not that dissappointed by the news today. My next Mac will be replacing my PC tower and from what I have seen today Im VERY happy that have waited to mess with that.

Agreed! This is the first time i've ever actually thought this, but now for the first time Apple products are overpriced in the UK, its actually borderline if its worth it....

Also agree, now im going to return my 17" and get a 15", theres just no point in me having the 17", the extra 2 inches screen space simply isn't worth $300.

Actually not 2" , 300$ for just 1.6" :D

But kastenbrust also gets a far longer battery, far greater resolution. To me, that's worth the extra $300 that he paid. Choosing the 17" MBP never had much to do with the 1.6" of extra screen. It was those other things that were important. ;)

What isn't worth the extra $300 is the slight difference in CPU speed, and system performance, you'd get by comparing the 2.93 GHz 15" MBP to the 17" 2.66 GHz MBP (which cost the same). In that situation, I'd choose between physical size and screen resolution.

I'm pretty annoyed - since when has an Apple laptop lasted a handful of months before being outdated?

They've certainly done it before, although I can't remember which models specifically. Actually, I remembered it, but it slipped my mind.

If I remember my example, I'll get back to you.

If I remember correctly, Kastenbrust went all out and his 17 was like $4200!

I just got off the phone with Apple customer support. They said that any CTO that was shipped on or after Feb. 17th can be returned for the refresh if you want it or you can get a $50 credit.

The guy I talked with was even nice enough to waive the restocking fee! :)

I remember they upped the CPUs back in the PowerBook G4 era, but that was prior to release and all purchasers got the faster CPUs.

^^^I was thinking of a more recent one.

They may have had a "quick" (5-6 month) upgrade with the iBooks as well.

These 15" MBP were around in October. It's now March. The upgrade period wasn't THAT short, really.

Besides, this is NOT a true update. Perhaps Apple found that they weren't selling enough 2.53 GHz MBPs, a sign for them that perhaps they gave you too litte value to entice you to buy the more expensive machine. This was their way to remedy the problem.

I was hoping to get home and order before they noticed this

But I guess they beat me to it :(

I've been waiting for my 2.8CTO to ship and Apple have automatically updated it to 2.93Ghz

I've got to wait an additional week now, but at least I get the revised model :D

You can return it and get full refund for it, after all, you haven't opened it and therefore you won' be charged restocking.

Order again and voila.

Protip: Call Apple ahead of time.

Very nice. I received a 2.8 MBP 15" Unibody on Feb 11 and I called Apple to complain this morning when I saw the upgrade. Customer service was very helpful. They will refund me in full for my MBP and let me get the 2.93 (and I get to upgrade to the SSD 256G - I just pay the difference for that). They were even kind enough to waive the 2 day shipping and throw that in for free. No restocking fee neither. I guess it works to be a squeaky wheel.

To be honest,im not really bothered about the revisions,im happy as you like with my 2.4ghz,4gb,320/7200 machine, and in the real world probally 90% of the people wouldnt even notice the changes!,things move on and Apple are just the same as any other company, all they want is a better profit margin, there will be loads of people who want the latest spec of everything, they will be selling their machines and trundling of to the local apple store to buy the latest model, they will probally do the same walk in 6mths time!!,i bought a Mitsubishi evoIX FQ360,3 weeks after i bought it Mitsi realeased the FQ360 MR with a few tweaks on it,gutted yes, after being assured that mine was the last revision untill the X,still who cares now, mine is now 450bhp/400lbs,for less than it would of cost me to swap.....the moral is just be happy with what you got,i am with a £1500 laptop and a £32000 car...:D

At least the 15" doesn't now miraculously support 8GB of RAM—that would result in a mob of angry people.

No it's still BTO.

You just made it within the 14 day window...I believe Apple gives you 14 working days as a grace period.

Hi, guys, I've ordered a CTO MacbookPro 2.53Ghz on the 19th of February, and received on the 25th. According to the Return Policy, I'm not entitled to the grace period, unless the product was DOA.

Since I'm now outside the US, does anyone knows any e-mail address I can use to contact the customer servive, to talk to them, I have no intention to return my MBP, but I would like to ask if a small token can be given, like 20$ store credit, or something like that, because of such a sudden upgrade.

Thank you.

hmm, I have a MBP 15" 2.8 BTO. It's perfect. screen, etc. I'm within the return period; should I return and get the 2.93 for the same price?

Hey,

Someone previously posted that for CTO orders, they were offering a 50$ credit or an exchange for the upgraded model. You can call 1-800-MY-APPLE for more information and find out the specifics in your case.

I believe that Apple may be phasing out the 2.53 all together i just got off the phone yesterday with my local apple store because i need a logic board replacement and they told me that Apple was back ordered with them and i have to wait till the 7th when the replacement will be shipped. So hopefully i will be getting a new 2.66 proc instead. Im not getting my hopes up though.
