Think secret is now saying it will be today but the entry model will be 1.8 with dual 1.8,2.0 and 2.5. They also say apple will keep with fx5200(garbage) in most models and 9600xt in the top as starting points. Im hoping for better but this does sound like apple of late concerning their lag in the video card dept. :( if this is so then i would guess imac will be 1.6 & 1.8??

It's just coming up on 9 AM EST, so perhaps we will see in 15 minutes. Otherwise, maybe they'll wait until 9 AM PST, which won't be for another 3 hours... Or maybe they'll wait until WWDC... ;)

Hey, I know Stevo promised 3ghz by end of summer, but I'll take a qual (or quad) 2.6

Talk about a renderbox.
Mmmmm....makes me drool. I would put down my credit card for one of those this morning if they were announced, though I think it's very very unlikely (lots of technical issues with moving to quad for one thing). But perhaps Steve started seeing a long time ago that IBM was going to have problems with the 90nm chips and began planning for the contingency. It's not without precedent, because Apple moved to the dual processor machines in the first place in large part to hold ground from the terrible Motorola failures, and it's been a mostly successful strategy. So I wouldn't be completely shocked to see them try to extend the life of the "slower" G5 chips by adding more of them. For developers, it's less drastic than the change from single to dual, as many apps are already multithreaded (as is most of OS X itself), and can already take advantage of however many processors are found. I still think they should put out a dual-G4 17" PowerBook too, until the G5s are ready for that application.

do u think it is possible they have somehow got an imac rumour confused with a PM rumour?

There was a post a few days ago saying how imacs were designated as powermac 8,1.......or something like that. maybe someone got confused?

At the very least this little rumor is making the morning go by quickly...

Even if 2.6GHz PMs were introduced today, I'd recommend holding off on the credit card to see what we get at WWDC. Make sure apple doesn't pull another one of those 1GHz Powerbook tricks...

The ThinkSecret article also says
"A source said that the company's plans called for an announcement of the long-awaited G5 refresh on Tuesday, June 8, but stressed that announcement dates for speed bumps could easily be shifted to a later date in the week; other indicators suggested that may indeed be the case."

Looks like I could be here at this time hitting the refresh button for Applestore updates for the next few days - and I don't even want to buy one!

If nothing new comes out today, then what’s with these boxes labelled for the 8th?

Edit: Ok, Thinksecret cleared it up, I guess.

"Apple will reportedly include an ATI Radeon 9600 XT graphics card in the highest-end configuration and an NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 Ultra in the other models."

I find it hard to believe that no one has yet complained about Apple Using yesterdays Video Cards. An ATI Radeon 9600 in the highest end? That's a joke right? I was hoping for a Radeon X800 or Geforce FX 6800 series card available in the high end or at least as a BTO configuration.

box's labled the 8th?

poss airport express?, new advertising campaign material?, thats if we are sure that those boxes even exist ;)

But come on, 8am. 3 minutes

otherwise im going to bed...unhappy :p

It has to be wrong and if it isnt then it really hits home how outdated and behind the video cards from Apple are becoming. If this is true then i will stand by my remarks of earlier that the hardware division is ran by clowns picking straws. Apple needs to find its way to the days of being the first with videocards like the Geforce3.

it would be funny to see logs of the sudden increase in visits to the apple store over the last couple of hours.

Could It Be

That Apple was monitoring this forum and since we (I know I was) expecting the new PowerMacs today, they are going to wait until tomorrow?

the other thing to remember is that they've just gone with the Airport Extreme on their front page - this is the new tech they're advertising - they're not going to upstage that for a new G5.

D

Hmm, have we had a Monday in the last six months where there hasn't been a "NEW POWERMACS COMING TOMORROW!!" thread? Wake me when it's over.

That would be Apple. Refuse to sell a product that people want because they are too eager to buy it.

well I guess this rumor had 1% reality and 99%smoke.

Once again our heads are found cast down...

Once again we are Rev.B PowerMacless...

Once again no joy is in our hearts...

Once again (you get the idea :) )

As a previous poster said. Airport Express wasn't announced till Noon EDT. So in theory it is still possible for the Powermacs to receive an update today. Here's hoping

That was because Steve announced them on the conference.

There’s no conference today...

7:52 AM, MST (6:52AM PST) - no updates. Where oh where have my powermacs gone, oh where oh where can they be? Guess I will have to until next Tuesday and/or the Tuesday after that. Maybe, holding out hope for a mid-morning announce?

Oh, and just because Apple has the new airport tech on its front page, does not mean they won't introduce speed bumps. They can rotate the front page which is what they have done many times in the past.
