Will all phones have usb C video out? the 16e didnt
Most iPhone users don't actually care. For that reason, if there is a 17e, I wouldn't expect it to get HDMI output either.

Plus, even the iPhone 16 and Pro only support limited mirroring, so it's kinda half-@ssed video out support (unlike the iPad Pro).

A '48MP Telephoto Lens' - since when are lenses, as opposed to sensors, measured in megapixels? I presume this is some sort of lazy shorthand for a telephoto lens with a 48 MP sensor. Just sayin'.

Also, megapixels in sensors is not a measure of quality.

Yes, it's a really sketchy rumour, and nobody else has corroborated it. The prior rumour was that it would be a 3.5X 48 MP sensor which can be cropped (not interpolated) to 7X 12 MP, just like how the 1X 48 MP sensor can be cropped to 2X 12 MP like on other recent iPhones. If this is what is happening, then we'd get:

0.5X / 1X / 2X / 3.5X / 7X or 0.5X / 1X / 2X / 4X / 8X

On the current iPhone 16 Pro Max we get 0.5X / 1X / 2X / 5X, which is a bit awkward for some.
You keep calling the 5/8x optical zoom sketchy, and that is totally fine.
But, going backwards from a 5x in the iPhone 16 to a 3.5x is a major step backwards, regardless of the sensor and the "crop zoom", and I happily stick with my 13PM if that is indeed what might happen.
5 or so more weeks...

IMO, going from a single 5X to a better quality 3.5X / 7X camera would be a major step forward.

3.5X is a much better portrait lens, and 7X is a further reach than 5X. Optical zoom to 8X would be good too, but as mentioned, it's a sketchy rumour that none of the other leakers are confirming.

Yeaaaaah I'm gonna have to disagree with this one. My 15PM is still rocking and does everything I could ask for in a phone. I was thinking maybe the 17 Air might appeal to me but at this point I feel like I just don't need a new phone like I used to every year. The magic of hyping up the new iPhone has worn off. It used to mean something when each year was making huge jumps in designs or performance or maybe some trick new software but anymore it's just so... ordinary. I know the 17 is a bit of a design change but it doesn't do a lot for me.

If this is the future of iPhones going forward, I will look back and think that maybe the 15 Pro Max was the last truly great iPhone.

Most recently, one leaker has disputed that the non-Pro models will get ProMotion, claiming that they will come with fixed... Click here to read rest of article

Does it make any sense a base iphone 17 with 120mhz display and no promotion? with the lame batteries these devices have it won't last a day.

EU forcing apple to switch to USB-C and adding rounded corners makes you believe that the 15 PM will be the last truly great iPhone?

For all of the snark about the new features I see on this thread, I don't see what you would want instead. You are getting upgraded everything and you are not happy. OK, what do you want that they are not doing?

I found this explanation helpful as I was wondering about the same thing.

A more premium design with rounded sides/edges and the Pro's come in much much lighter.

Actually it’s more like 14 reasons if you condense the repeated and overlapping ones:
  • Aluminum design is mentioned in both:
    • Point 1 (iPhone 17 Air’s aluminum chassis)
    • Point 2 (all iPhone 17 models return to aluminum frames)
    • Point 3 (Pro models’ aluminum top half in camera redesign)
  • Smaller Dynamic Island is mentioned in:
    • Point 1 (narrower Dynamic Island for Air)
    • Point 13 (narrower Dynamic Island for Pro Max)
  • 24MP front camera appears in:
    • Point 1 (iPhone 17 Air)
    • Point 10 (all iPhone 17 models)
  • Camera redesign overlaps in:
    • Point 1 (single rear camera bar for Air)
    • Point 3 (camera bar for Pro models, but with multi-lens setup)
  • A19 chip appears in:
    • Point 1 (iPhone 17 Air has A19)
    • Point 14 (all models A19, Pro gets A19 Pro)
  • Display upgrades overlap:
    • Point 4 (new display sizes)
    • Point 5 (ProMotion and always-on)

It’s for ar glasses

24MP Selfie Camera

I think THIS will be the primary reason people upgrade to the iPhone 17. Finally more clear / decent selfie photos & videos.

Even if not “selfies” technically… i.e., sometimes you set the phone down on the counter top to make a video using selfie camera BECAUSE it’s really nice to see the preview of yourself while recording. All those videos will now be better quality.

(And secondarily, yeah having 48 megapixel sensors on all three rear lenses will be nice too.)
Yep. I have kids and cats, and love taking photos of them both and selfies with them both. I upgrade every year due to camera improvements, no matter how incremental, but it looks like this year’s will actually be decent!

Eagerly waiting for the 17 Pro Max. Think it will have very good camera improvements. The base model too will be good and finally it should get 120Hz display. Hoping to see the orange color on Pro models. Also will be really good if the price hike is no more than $50.
