well no sane person would buy an iphone now so obviously will wait for iphone 17

I was thinking about it actually (16p). The 17 Pro is going to have an even more massive camera bump for what might only be marginally better zoom features, and I’m a little leery of that form factor. Plus I like the titanium build, and the 16p will quickly disappear once the 17p is announced. Obviously it depends on what’s important to you, though.

Do we really need to be able to shoot 8K video?
I usually won't shoot 8K anytime soon, but I'm looking forward to the incremental 4K video improvements going forward.

If it has the capability to shoot 8K, I take that as a sign that it probably also has somewhat improved 4K quality, if our experience from the transition from 1080p to 4K is any indication. When 4K video recording was first introduced into iPhones, its quality wasn't the greatest (although OK under good lightning conditions), but 1080p video quality was noticeably improved.

I sure can't imagine that any Apple iPhone user who comes to this web site would be planning on buying an iPhone 16 series device at this time unless they got an insane deal on it.
Actually considering a 16 plus myself, I might wait to see the announcement and then decide.

Bugs me to be needing a new phone so soon.

Many people, including myself, are no longer waiting for the "big, bigger, biggest" fastest iPhone ever. Apple have forgotten that not everyone have massive big hands or huge pockets. For example, the smaller pocketable Samsung Z Flip 7 is already popular worldwide, and especially females LOVE customizing the 1 inch Super AMOLED screen, and it fits in our hands!
I bet that this user, "Oceanhuts" is a bot or AI.

If you wait until the announcement I would hold off unless they immediately cut the price (which I assume that they will).
I am in the fence, but def more a want than a need, also selling my only smartphone in 2 days I will be out of it for at least a month…..
Always had the best and top of the line, this time I am wondering if last year mid tier is the best choice.

Def afraid of some buying remors, but I like the look of it, and the need for pro is very little.

Bummer for the 60 hz but not a deal breaker, if I can snatch it at a good price fine, cause from what I have seen I am not a fan of the look of the 17.

A bit worried it’ll feel slow in a couple of years as I never went with the base model, but I am sure it won’t…… it’s hard to hold on, especially if prices go down a bit, but I guess patience is a virtue and waiting to see the 17 will be a good think any way I decide to go, lower prices on one side newer model on the other.

They should have made the 16e in the 13 mini chassis. I'm trying to source a 13 mini for my partner cause she can't deal with the larger phones. Once those are EOL not sure what people with small hands are supposed to do.
I am very happy they didn’t saddle us with another mini at the lower end. For mainstream “budget” users, the 16e is so much better than the 13 mini ever was. Our tween kid and most of her friends disliked the mini, and of course, being tweens, they have small hands.

I am really hoping the 17 Pro is a lot lighter than the 16 Pro. Going aluminum should help as long as they don't make the battery bigger.
Folks that constantly compare the elemental metals Al and Ti need to think.

Strength-to-weight ratios of Al alloys versus Ti alloys give us no reason to think that using Al alloys for the frame instead of Ti alloys for the frame should reduce weight. The Al alloys used for the frame may be easier to work with and cheaper, but probably do not result in overall lighter frame design.
