Man no love of Favre here.....

Ok, yes, he is in decline and threw some very questionable passes last year. Mostly due to a poor running game, lots of pressure, and close games. Five of the Pack's 12 losses were by 3 points or less, 8 of them were by 7 points or less one of those was against the Bears, another against the Eagles. By the end of the season the OL looked like they were finally starting to get their act together. I'm hoping that they manage to improve for the start of this year.

The loss of Javon Walker the pack has had a good run of receivers in the past and who knows what any of the new guys will be capable of once they hit the field.

There is little chance the Pack will make the playoffs so the big drama will be the TD passes, so there will probably be more shots at the end zone than Favre has ever taken in a season. Aside from last year, you have to go back to 2001 to find a year where he had fewer than 25 TD passes I think there is a good chance he'll make the record. I'm sure Manning will take the record from Favre in a few years but Peyton would have to throw 176 TDs to tie the record this year so I'd put my money on Favre to hold it for at least 1 year.

I'm not predicting even a playoff year for the pack but as long as the OL shows some competence early in the season I'll bet Favre will take the record.

Thats going to be very difficult when the Bears D takes him out for two games, and Peyton Manning now holds the record you speak of and well farve isn't really in peyton's caliber these days.

Last time I checked (about 5 minutes ago) Manning had 244 TD passes. Marino's Record is 420 and Favre is at 396. Peyton will undoubtedly hold the record someday (barring injury) but it is not this year or next.

Well I still pull for half of the old "black and blue" division (Green Bay and Chicago) 'cause they play the game the way it oughta be played, in the cold. The Vikings gave in to wuss pressure and Detroit can move to Windsor for all I care. I can't pull for Dallas anymore since I've never forgiven them for shafting one of the great coaches of the game and, I give TO about two weeks in to training to show his antics. Martz has lost his genius somewhere between QB allegiances (it's now about Apple Store caliber), but I still pull for St. Louis in spite of it all. Where the Titans had their moments of ruling the earth, they now drool on the turf in search of identity and youth. I'm just a bitter, old fan in search of a team.

Well maybe everybody except for me...even though I'm a Chicago Bear fan I definitely give credit where credit is deserved... and Brett Favre definitely deserves some credit. Regardless if he is on the decline and the 26 (this stat might be incorrect) Ints last year did the Packers more harm then good, I still consider Brett one of the best QBs to ever play this game....

so....

I believe I speak on behalf of everyone (minus you) here when I say that Brett Favre is one hell of a QB and a future Hall of Famer.

It's not really Brett Favre. It's more the constant ass kissing from John Madden and every single announcer sucking his nuts every second of every game.

Robbed? I really don't think they deserved to be there at all... look at their division... 49'ers, Cards (granted, this season they'll be better), St. Louis. They had 6 guaranteed wins! Then they also played Houston, Philly, Tenn. and Green Bay. Yes, they did beat some good teams, but they had an incredibly easy schedule

Any team that makes it through the play-offs "deserves" to be there.

Including Pittsburg.

Jake and the Panthers, all the way to the SuperBowl victory!!!!!

Everyone else here is just dreaming.:p :p :p

Seriously, I worry the preseason picks for the Panthers to have a great year will be a HUGE jinx.

I'm just interested, if Brett Favre isn't one of the great quarterbacks in your eyes GoryDays, then who is and by what criteria? Oh and about the announcers...there's always the mute button.

Most definitely... I just wish he'd retire and be there a few years sooner since the only thing he's adding to his stature now is relatively meaningless statistics and slowing down the Pack's rebuilding.

Everyone seems to be saying this now but how does anyone know that last year wasn't a fluke? You have to go back to 1999 to find a season where the Pack broke even and sometime before 1996 was their last losing season.

Favre has always been one to make the stupid pass that gets intercepted at key moments in close games. The big difference in previous seasons was that fewer games were close near the end.

I don't think he has hurt the Packers too much yet, probably the biggest harm is being done due to his never being injured so our backups never get a shot. Close games all last season didn't help either.

I put no stock in Madden's love affair with Favre since his gushing seems to be tied directly to winning and popularity. I remember when he was vehemently anti-Packer as an announcer. If Madden is announcing at any point past Favre's retirement watch him gush over the next big QB just as much.

I thought we were talking about the single season record which Marino held for a long tie (48) and peyton just recently broke, so I think we were both right.

Fluke or not, Brett's competitiveness is only hurting the Packer's by not retiring and giving there "QB of the future" Aaron Rogers a chance to show he can compete....Brett has nothing else to prove..he's done what many greats have not been able to do and that is win the Superbowl (i.e. Dan Marino)

I really feel that the Packer's feel somewhat obligated to continue with Favre since he's been the face of that franchise for years and will continue to be after he retires.

I am in agreement with this - The Panthers seem to be the right pick. I am an Eagles guy :( but the Panthers seems to havethe best mix and with their new RB they should be more balanced. Steve Smith is the man and I think Keyshawn will help him out, but lso think Colbert will bounce back this season too.

It all depends on how you define "hurting." I am not expecting a winning season this year (based on last year's performance) and that outlook would not change if Brett had retired and would probably look more bleak with a second year QB taking over the helm. For franchise profit keeping Brett in is the best bet for maximizing this year with his pursuit of the record drawing people to games (not that Lambeau isn't sold out through the rest of my life anyway).

As for getting Rodgers some playing time, if things go better than last year he will probably see more time in the game this season and rather than throwing him in and saying, "here it's all yours" he can ease the transition a bit and maybe learn a bit more from Favre. In the long term it will probably make little difference when the next big GB QB will be reaching peak performance.

Favre is just milking this retirement too much. He's been doing this the past few years: leak that he may retire, enjoy all the free press and attention, have multiple sports writters talk about how great you are, decide you have more football in you, repeat process in the offseason. The guy is addicted to hearing his own name.

No love for my Buffalo Bills? We finally pitched our second 'fraidy cat' coach. I'm sick of punting from our opponent's 35 yard line. Let's hope the third times the charm. If we had a better offensive line I would like our chances even better. I'll also go on record for saying that Miami is NOT going to be as good as everyone thinks (Redskins either). Chicago and Carolina WILL be good.

i think the super bowl will be kansas city vs carolina. i picked kc like 3 months ago, and now they signed ty law. so maybe my shot in the dark has legs...

im still rooting for the dolphins though :D

STEELERS

Yup, it's almost that time again.....Last season was a dream season for me and the BURGH

We broke so many different records, and got our fifth ring. Yes the superbowl was an odd game, yes there were some shady calls, but I believe we still would have won regardless.

THIS SEASON. We have the best college WR in the draft (he's already been in trouble with the law...but.....he can play) Ben has a bionic face, and hopefully Duce Staley will return to form.

TEAMS TO WATCH

Arizona
Redskins (enjoy Randle 'crazylegs" El....he's a fumbler)
Chicago
Dallas
and of course the BURGH!!

I am counting down the days till the opener vs. Miami

I would not want to be Dante on that day......can you say Joey Porter??

God I love the NFL

HERE WE GO!!!

I kinda like the steelers too, but I live and die with the Phins. And there is no way in heck the steelers are gonna beat Miami in the opener. Bionic Ben isnt going to be ready and the Phins are gonna be fired up, while Dante has something to prove from he terrible (partial) season last year. He is gonna be flinging it and the dolphin running game is pretty darn decent too...

Either way, should be a hell of an opener. I cant hardly wait... I have football coursing through my veins!!!!!!!!!! AAAAArrrrrghghghghgh!!!!!

Phew! I feel much better now.:D

no way in hell was santonio holmes the best wr in the draft. he wasnt even the best wr on his own team. and calvin johnson (georgia tech) was the best wr in college football even as a true soph.

however, you did say best wr in draft. so we can exclude all the other wr's that didnt come out (dwayne jarret, calvin johnson, ted ginn, steve smith, etc). i will say that chad jackson is a better wr than holmes. jackson is taller (muchhhh taller), faster, stronger, and bigger hands. in college, all santonio did was run fly routes. he was a product of his team.

and the other thing.. even if daunte starts game 1... joey porter will do nothing to daunte. culpepper is bigger AND faster than him.

culpepper is 6-5 260lbs. porter is 6-3 230. :D i dont care how 'nasty' porter thinks he (and his horse teeth) are... culpepper is a big boy, and he doesnt have to watch out for anybody... they better watch out for him

When Arizona tops a 'Teams to Watch' list you know its going to be an interesting season. Now if they could only get rid of their arena football jerseys...

Im not really a Favre hater, but you hit the nail on the head right there. He can play the most horrible game of his friggin career and the announcers will still be falling all over themselves to kiss his azz.
