Anyone living in the UK or Europe (or America for that matter) going to the game? I wonder which teams they'll choose to go.

I'll go for a Pats/Bears rematch in the SB.Colts were at home last year for the championship game, with arguably a better team/season.People keep singing the praises of the Colt's defense. They beat two of the worst offensive teams in the NFL. Herm Edwards is Marty Shottenheimer incarnate. He basically gave up on that game. And McNair laid an absolute egg out there Saturday.SO I am not sold on that defense yet.Even tho the Pats played a real physical game on Sunday, they came out relatively unscathed injury wise.Brady needs to be more accurate and hopefully we will see a big helping of Maroney and Dillon..

That's what I'm liking, a Pats/Bears SB. Good to read another who thought McNair's performance was cackly. Adding up on the side of the Pats, though, is that they faced the #1 D in the NFL last week and the relentless pressure on Brady tallied up 3 picks and I don't know how many sacks. I don't see the Colt's D as being able to sustain the same kind of pressure and, if not, Brady is relaxed and in the pocket. The NE secondary will have to be on their game, but I'm hoping they'll blitz all day and be in Peyton's face.

As to da' Bears. I like them from the old Black and Blue Division for sentimental reasons, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Saints come away with a win. Still, hoping for a Pats/Bears rematch though.

P.S. Congrats to London. The Giants would be a good pick. I wouldn't wish the Fish on any other country but Miami. :D

Luv to see that rematch..And this time the Pats won't have a QB that's wearing a dress and heels ;) Very un Brady like first half against San Diego.Usually when a QB throws three picks in a game, you don't win. Not to mention missing a wide open Watson and Troy Brown for easy touchdowns. He'll have to be more accurate Sunday.I just hope the refs let em play and don't call every little tap on the shoulder for pass inteference.....

Okay, the Chargers had a great season and Tomlinson had a great year and deserves MVP, but come on, hasn't the media hype over the game end celebration of New England had enough ink? I know to post about it plays to the same, but I don't see why San Diego and fans need to get all bent out of shape over the Pats' celebrating victory after an emotional game. Tomlinson taking shots at Belicheck, to me, were not justifiable.

Obviously, I'm really, really hoping for the Saints in the SB, but I don't know if we have what it takes to beat da Bears at Soldier field.

On the AFC side, I can't pick. I really like both Peyton and Brady. Part of me wants Manning to get his shot, and then part of wants Brady to get his 4th ring.

It's going to be an intense Sunday!

He needs to strap it on and get over it.You got beat,at home, when you weren't supposed to lose.Ya lost,PERIOD..Move on.If he wants to take shots at anybody he can start with his receivers for dropping balls when they're wide open, Merriman for doing absolutely NOTHING in the game, head but man, and his fraud of a head coach. Those guys need to look in the mirror first...

Yeah.. Patriots. :D

Pats / Bears rematch.

This time, no Ditka, no Peyton, and no ****ing Fridge.

Pats win 4th SB in 6 years. 21-20

I thought about switching back to my original avatar from when I joined (and made 500 posts), Pat Patriot.. but I was arrested by the FUDcop.

Personally, I'd like to see the Saints in the SB. That team WANTS it this year. But (despite some people's objections), being a Dome Team from the south playing in a (possibly) frigid Soldier Field? Brrrrrrrr...

I do worry about the Pats versus the Colts. The Colts are a different team (defensively) here in the Playoffs. But then again, so are the Pats versus earlier in the season. I expect a very healthy dose of Dillon/Muroney to set up even more play action passes (downfield) and a lot of screens to Faulk/Dillon.

I think thats dead on. He may be biased, but who isn't? For being such a juiced up prick, Merriman didn't do anything. His dance deserved to be done by the pats. I hate what happened to the NFL with the new stricter celebration rules. You just beat the number 1 seed, at their house, with the NFL MVP running down your throat, and a cocky, roid-headed jerk who is known for a certain celebratory dance. I would have done it to, the face that it was on the Chargers logo made it even sweeter.

Yeah, I sound biased, I'm a huge pats fan. They faught hard, faught through Brady's off day, and came up with the win.

/dance

why not?

How come Tomlinson doesn't make mention of Merriman's comment during their little pep rally last week that he (Merriman) was going to punch Brady in the mouth?Yeah, that's real classy   And a note to Tomlinson, you don't TELL people that you're classy. They can realize that if you actually are. That's like telling people that you're great ;) Like I said, look in the mirror and the myriad of coaching decisions, mistakes, lack of effort and playmaking by his own teammates that cost them the game..I'm sick of the Stuart Scott's,Michael Irvin's and Tom Jacksons of the world being the official appologists for Tomlinson. They're shocked their binky actually lost..Get over it and stop your whining.Ya got beat by a better team that out played you and out coached you..A three-five second dance by Ellis Hobbs AFTER the game has NOTHING to do with happened during the game...

Bah.. TO's stance on the Cowboy's Star was much more of an offense, IMO. If the Bolts had beaten the Pats at Gillette (and were big time underdogs too) and danced on the logo at the 50, I would have assumed that it was because they were happy to be going to the AFC Championship and that they had overcome the "unstoppable force". Silly me.

Ya got beat by a better team that out played you and out coached you..

Actually, I'd agree that the Chargers were out-coached but I don't think they were out-played. Until that McCree interception/fumble followed by the dreadful timeout, it looked like the Chargers would win and deservedly so. The Patriots weren't on their game for most of the first 3 quarters.

And Tomlinson is generally one of the good guys. I hope that all those who are now slating him never go off on a rant immediately after their hopes are dashed.

Don't get me wrong, I agree he was acting in pure emotion. I like LT a lot, I was just defending my boys.

oh really? i thought your (and other's) comments were totally objective comments based on a series of factual events as seen (presumably) in person by yourselves and not as construed through a select series of shots on tv.

I'll have to predict a Colts-Bears SuperBowl.

The Saints have a great team no doubt, but I think them playing Chicago (who is also a good team) at home in January gives the edge to the Bears. Chicago is pretty good against the run, whereas the Saints aren't. Both have good rushers, and I anticipate Chicago will get more out of theirs and set up the big pass from Grossman to Berrian, Clark, Davis, etc. The Saints have Drew Brees, who is very good, but when Grossman is on, he's very good as well.

As far as Colts-Patriots, I just hope it's Indy because I don't want to see the Pats back in this again this year. For the record, I'm not sure the Bears could be either team, even though they played the Pats tough earlier this year as part of their 3-game east coast road trip.

From that, although I'd like to see the Bears win, I think it will be Indianapolis. Plus, I like Manning so I wouldn't be too disappointed to see that happen.

Hope you're half right, (Bears), but still like the prospects of a Pats/Bears contest, though I don't think any of the four remaining teams would be a disappointment for the SB.

Speaking of disappointments, I just this afternoon realized I've scheduled an international flight, all day on February 4th, arriving 21:30 in the States. I'm an idiot. What was I thinking.

NAPOLIAN WHINES ABOUT OFFICIATING

In an apparent effort to influence the crew of officials for this week's AFC title game, Colts president Bill Polian is complaining about the calls (or lack thereof) from Saturday's game between Indy and Baltimore.

An item on the team's official web site contains a quote from Polian attributing the touchdown-less game between the Colts and Ravens to the failure of the officials to throw flags on the Baltimore defensive backs.

"The game was kind of a unique game, but I think it's just apropos of the kind of officiating that has been going on," Polian said. "When you have blitzing teams and you allow that downfield stuff, such as what happened to Reggie Wayne, you're going to limit offense. That's the net of it. You encourage the power-running game, you discourage the passing game and if you're limited to a running game, it's rare that you can do what we did in the fourth quarter and take the game over with a power-running attack.

"I worry not so much about us -- we can play any style -- but I worry about what kind of a game we're getting when we allow so much rough stuff down the field. Whether or not the league office says that was a foul or should have been a foul, I don't know, but Bill Levy is a great official. I know he's nothing if not an honest guy and the explanation he gave I think is what the officials have been told. That worries me some. You went something like two-and-a-half games before a touchdown was scored? That's not good, when the best teams play that way. That's not good for the health of the game. I think that was certainly a contributing factor to a low-scoring game."

Amazing. We've never seen a guy criticize officiating so deftly. Really, there's no smoking-gun word or phrase (like "chicken sh-t" or "diddly poo") that would trigger an automatic fine. Indeed, we wouldn't be surprised if there's no fine at all, especially since Polian is the guy who was doing the talking.

But the meaning, upon consideration of the entire passage, is obvious. Polian is complaining that the officials allowed the same kind of receiver manhandling in the secondary that prompted Polian to cry to the Competition Committee after a loss to the Patriots in the playoffs a few years back, resulting in a renewed emphasis on the illegal contact rules.

Although Polian tries to come off as being concerned only about the overall integrity of the game, we think he's full of crap, with all due deference and respect. He wants to win.

And he knows that if the officials have a hair trigger about hand checking, the Colts will be more likely to outscore New England -- and to finally advance to the Super Bowl. So Polian wants the "renewed emphasis" for which he lobbied so fervently to be in place on Sunday.

Because without that "renewed emphasis," Polian knows that he's more likely to be watching guys like Ellis Hobbs do the Colts' make-it-rain/tipped pass celebration thing on Indy's home field after the game ends.

Yeah, I read that on PFT last night - and spotted that picture you posted earlier too. Profootballtalk.com for those of you not in the loop is a great resource for often-suspiciously accurate football information. :D

Completely agree though. I want to see the teams play football and not a flag-fest for ho-hum penalties.

Don't patronize me. I know exactly what happened, I made sure to research things through both perspectives. This is actually a very interesting topic to me, because I love both TO and the Pats, so I wanted to make sure I knew exactly what happened before I took a side.

Tomlinson, who is usually one of the standards of sportsmanship, was very upset he lost when all the odds were on his team. He has stated before that he often attributes the team losing to his own failures, even when his good efforts went in vain because of a poor supporting cast. He had a great effort, and his team still lost, except in this situation, he knew it wasn't his fault, which upset him even more. He looked for anything he could find, and, eventually, called out Belichick, which he most certainly shouldn't have done. He can be upset at the players, who, in my opinion, didn't do anything wrong, but he shouldn't blame someone who was on the sidelines through the entire event.

You (presumably) made sure to read my specific post, and not group me with someone who's post might have been a little harsher than mine. And even he is mostly correct, which is why I quoted him.
