Although, I don't like how we look so far....other than Wilson, and Ben....

I share your concerns. The Steelers don't really have a "between the tackles" runner. Staley's always hurt, Cedric Humes hasn't really shown much, and Verron Haynes is more of blocker in 3rd down situations than he is a real runner. And Parker's so small (well, not small, but you know what I mean) that if it were me, I wouldn't want him running into the teeth of the defense too many times.

there was talk of the Steelers trying to trade for T.J. Duckett during draft weekend, but I guess that fizzled. He would've been a good addition to the backfield, IMHO

But if Staley can pick up where Bettis left off (which is kind of a big if), we might just be in pretty good shape.

and yea, I'll be the guy who says it: Polamalu gambles too much

Then again... Ben's luck doesn't appear to be in this offseason...

Motorcycle accidents, appendicitis... third one's the charm?

I know, right? It's just been one d@mn thing after another for Ben. They say he's gonna miss the first game for sure, but jeez...wouldn't this keep him off the field for at least a month or more? Not because it's a really traumatic surgery but because the wound needs time to heal. I'd be afraid a really good shot around the waist would open that scar right up.

Think they're now saying 2 games? I'm guessing they took out it using keyhole technique rather than a big slice...so might not take too long to heal since less intrusion.

Is the NFC North worse than the NFC West?

Has the crown of 'worst' division passed from the NFC West to the NFC North?

At least in the West, you have the good Seahawks and the potentially good Cardinals (boy, does that sound odd!)

Whereas in the North, you have Green Bay who don't appear to have much of anything, the Bears with a cracking defense and no offense, the Vikings lurching from one media crisis to another and the Lions who might actually have more of a chance now that they've given up on Joey finally...

EDIT - brain to fingers malfunction - typed South rather than North!

I'd still have to give it to the NFC West, just because they are home to one of the worst organizations in professional sports i.e. the Arizona Cardinals. And the Niners are years away from fielding a competitive team. Just my opinion...

NFC North. Yea, Green Bay will stink. But I think each of the other 3 teams has a real shot to win the division...of course, just my opinion...

one thing's for sure...we'll find out :D

Ben will be back for the second game vs. JAX

figgin sucks.....

but, Our backup Charlie B has looked good, but if he takes a good hit and goes down....

well

We are literally screwed....we got NO one...not like, oh, your third stinger sucks...I mean, we got NO one.....we would have to put out our WR C Wilson, or call up St. Pierre from the practice squad...

not cool...

sigh...

well, they've got Omar Jacobs on the practice squad, so they can always turn to him in a real pinch. Plus they could (though it's highly unlikely) re-sign Tommy Maddox. Because Maddox is a vested veteran they'd owe him his entire base salary if he was on the roster opening day, but if they sign him after the first game they wouldn't.

at any rate, I'd expect St. Pierre to be active for the next two games or maybe the next month, and for one of their rookies (I'd guess Marvin Phillip or Willie Colon, since they have pretty good depth along the offensive line) to be put on the practice squad in his place.

The NFL season starts in four hours!

Glad my last class is at 3:15, giving me plenty of time to get home and get comfortable for what looks to be an awesome season.

The beer is in the fridge... the wings are marinating in hot sauce... and the coffee machine will be warmed in case I need a shot of espresso by the second quarter

and I'm on my lonesome since I was the only one amongst my NFL buddies to have the foresight to book tomorrow off work :(

Small request... can you arrange for the first half hour of the game to be really boring?

In their wisdom  , Sky Sports aren't starting coverage until 2am (9pm)... and showing the World Series of Darts in the meantime.

The fact that they have 4 Sports Channels, one of which is showing a repeat of a motorbike magazine show... and we're going to the first game of the football late is bloody annoying!

Man....next time we are in the UK (London, right?) or you are in the DC area, you have to let us know. You may just be the coolest Brit I have never met!

And Polamalu gambles a lot, but he's fast enough that even when he screws up, he doesn't get burnt too bad.

And I think that Chicago may go QB shopping soon enough, but it won't be that urgent - their D will carry them to the playoffs, maybe even a few games in...

I scored tickets to the Lions opener on Sunday against Seattle... visitor's side, on the 25-30 yard line, 3rd row. :) Never been to Ford Field, should be fun... I'm not expecting much from my Lions, but hopefully Seattle will keep it exciting. ;)

I've made it out to DC twice to go to a couple of MNF games ;) Did make sure to see some of the other sights while I was there. Perhaps I'll come out to tick off the Ravens someday - I have a pal who is a Ravens fan.

Ford Field is a beautiful stadium. I was there 2 years ago but ended up sitting in one of the endzones. It's so airy in there, and so well lit that you almost forget there's a roof up there - the stadium kinda feels like it was there and then the building appeared round it. We had fun there... still have a beanie cap and a Williams shirt lying around somewhere :D

M&T is a pretty nice stadium. If you have a few days, do it in September and hit an Orioles game if they are at home the day before or after - Camden Yards is gorgeous. I really was luck to live in her shadow for two years. Also, if you are in the mood for good crabcakes, there is a place just south of Baltimore with what, in my opinion, are the best in MD - G&M.

Come on... I can understand during the 4th quarter of a blowout when they talk over the action in the booth. It bugs me but I can understand it.

But this is the second quarter with the Dolphins driving... I know he's the new Commish but do we need to hear him at the expense of the game? What do I want him to improve in the game? Covering the game rather than the booth!

eeesh... can't believe they didn't get the replay flag on the field in time..

I thought he was out of bounds on first view... what were those assistants doing? And aren't the guys in the booth meant to look out for flags and buzz the referee?

Nice play aside from that... I wonder if the extra time will help...ah...picked off... probably not!

Go Steelers :D

what's that in your avatar?

I'm not a fan of either but just wanted a good game. And I hate when one team get a score because of a screwup - even if they would probably have gone in one play later...

My tar? It's the iTunes album art screensaver with the addition of me doing a somersault in a kilt while drunk in Germany at an NFL Europe game :D

hehehe...word to you :D

that Andrea Kremer is so cute...I for one don't mind a little sideline reporter cupcakery with my football. Plus she's smart as hell. Gotta love that.
