And he just did to Dre Bly too.

82 yard touchdown pass by Favre to Greg Jennings on the first play of overtime. Packers win 19-13. That was awesome.

Man, that game hurt. Makes me wonder how we can put up 31 on the Steelers and can't hit 20 against the Pack. The NFL is a funny league.

Here's hoping we turn it around against Detroit next week. The AFC West is still a close race.

Daniel

Didn't get to watch the game 'til the last 5 minutes. It goes to OT. Okay, I go down stairs to get a drink thinking I get to watch the crucial ending, come back up, and it's over. Was Favre getting single coverage targets all night, or was that just a first play OT mistake on Denver's secondary? Got to be a disappointing loss for the Broncos.

NFL Europe was a failure...because it was a bunch of **** players off of the real NFL teams practice squads.
I thought that was the 1999 Cleveland Browns. :D

Incidentally, anybody else dislike the Pats running up the score on Washington? I'm thinking not of the overall score, but specifically of the moment when the Patriots went for it on fourth-and-one.

Just another reason to hate Bill Belicheck.

Oh yeah...and Jeff George? I'd just as soon welcome back Tim Couch!

But like someone said, "how can you run up the score in the first half?". :p

The Pat's put Matt Cassel in the game with 8 minutes to go. Brady and Moss were both out of the game. Their D still could not stop us.They couldn't stop our back up QB. The guy rushed for a TD. They couldn't stop that? That sounds like it's their problem, not ours. The Skin's players should be looking at why they got their asses kicked and quit. Even the winless Dolphins put up more of a fight late in the game.
This year, the Pats will be damned if they do,damned if they don't. Teams have left their starters in and scored late for years. Now all of a sudden, because it's the Pats,it's an issue?? Where was all this running up the score talk during Manning's 04 season when he set the record?Or when the Ram's had the "greatest show on turf"? Please  This his has been going on for years....

I still like Ditka's comment, if a team doesn't like it, stop em.....

Matt Cassel and the rest of the backups (Jabar Gaffney, Kelley Washington, Kyle Eckel) were all in. The Redskins should have played some defense (especially since they had a top 5 defense in the league).

It's not pop warner football. There is no mercy rule. The offenses play to score points and the defenses play to stop them. Do you want the offense to just stop playing because the defense sucks?

What about the Colts running up the score in Carolina? Or the Chargers running up the score to 41-3 three weeks ago in Denver? Nobody ever bitched about that. Everyone is just trying to find a way to complain about the Patriots because they're so damn good.

Yeah Cowboys, you show that bye week!

And to complain about running up the score in a professional league is really just sour milk. ESPECIALLY in football and baseball (for different reasons).

I mean, would anyone who complained about this have felt any better if the Pats had just knelt on 4th and 1? "We don't need to score, because we know you're too weak to get past our defense" versus "We're going for this, because you could still come back in the second half".
Now in baseball, it's entirely possible to score as many runs as the players are physically capable of within one half inning. The only things stopping them are the opposing pitcher and fielders.

You don't stop playing until the last out is made (Show of Sox fan hands, who didn't relax in '04 until Doug Meintkeiwicz had the ball in his golve?), the whistle blows, or there's just not enough time on the clock to score the needed points.
"It ain't over 'til it's over"

I think the complaint was that Joe Gibbs is a hall of famer and should be shown some respect. But what do you expect from Bellicheat, he only cares about himself and not the game.

Well at least your consistant in your hate/whining of all teams New England. Game on:
It's been going on for years.
The 49ers beat Denver in the SB 55-10. They were called dominant.
The Bears beat the Pats 46-10. They were called dominant.
The Cowboys beat the Bills 52-17. They were called dominant.
The Giants beat the 49ers in the playoffs 49-3. They were called dominant.
Gibbs and his Redskins beat the Rams in the playoffs 51-7. They were called dominant.
The Bears won the title 73-0. They were called dominant.

The Pats win 52-7 and they receive criticism? Only from those with no historical perspective on the game.More recently:
2005, Redskins beat 49ers 52-17, no media whining.

2000 Playoffs, Jaguars beat Dolphins 62-7.

2004, Colts beat Houston 49-14
2004, Colts beat Chicago 41-10
2004, Colts beat Detroit 41-9, all three of these with more Peyton ballwashing media stories.Including this game, where Manning was throwing deep well into the fourth quarter:
http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/playbyplay?game_id=27041&displayPage=tab_play_by_play&season=2004&week=REG10
As a matter of fact, during the entire 04 season, when Manning was putting up points and stats, there was NO talk of running up the score. IT was a weekly Manning ballwashing by the same exact media that's pissing and moaning about the Pats.

Compare these non-stories (and more to come) with media hacks like Michael Wilbon who suggested someone should take out Brady's knees. And I'm sure that whining bitch Polian is lobbying the competition committee for a mercy rule..
All of a sudden it's an issue and media story because it's BB?Please:rolleyes:

In regard to Gibbs, the Post says otherwise:
From the Washington Post:

"It's an utter embarrassment," said linebacker London Fletcher, who called the defeat the worst he has endured in his life. "My stomach is nauseous."

Left guard Pete Kendall joked that after spending the week studying New England on video, "they move a lot slower in slow motion" than in real time.

"They kicked our butts, they really did," said tackle Todd Wade, who was beaten by Vrabel for one of the fumbles.

Comments on the fourth down play (instead of punt or FG):

Gibbs said, "I have no problem with anything that they did. Nothing. No problems from me."

London Fletcher said, "It's their football, that's what they chose to do with the ball. It's our job to stop them."

"They have one objective," said Washington cornerback Shawn Springs. "They whoop people's [backsides]. If you understand that, it answers all your questions. They might not lose [this year]."

yeah, i think people need to stop the crying about this. like others have said, if you got a problem with them scoring, then stop them.

now let's move on to this coming weekend.

i'm voting the Pats are gonna beat the colts...

Agreed..Stop whining and move on...

Obviously I'm taking the Pats..I just hope the refs let them play.Don't call every little bit of incidental contact downfield..Let the players decide it,not the refs..But in Indy, you never know :p

Good point.. which is more of a thumb in the eye?

If you want us to stop scoring, then stop us yourself.

or

Yeah, we're so good and you're so bad that we've just completely given up.

Clearly.. I'm taking the Pats this weekend.

I think this is going to be a really good game. I feel like a lot of the coverage (not all, a lot) is pro-Colts because there's something about Manning being the media darling. It's gonna be close, and it's gonna be a nailbiter. But it's going to be wicked fuggin awesome!

Has anyone come on a good article which breaks down Sunday's match up between the Pats and Colts? All I've read have this "soothsayer: must tell the future" voodoo attached to them, but I'm just looking for a solid, comparative analysis and contrast of both sides. At this point, if it's a close game, (less than 6 points), I see the Colts. More than 7, the Pats. Thanks.

Really? You mean the fact that on Sundays just about every commercial has Manning in it?Is there anything he won't endorse?More media ballwashing to come this week for sure....

Not all..

Tyrell Davis picked the Pats last night on NFL something or other on the NFL channel.

Most of them (sportscasters that I've watched on TV thus far) just seem to think that Peyton Manning walks on water, but TD was pretty pragmatic about it.

Somehow I think Boomer will pick the Pats too.

Could anyone expect anything less from someone born in Coatesville, PA and a graduate of South FL journalism? He's covered the Vikings among others, but I can't for the life of me figure out this guy and why he's so consistently down on the Pats. Don Banks and Sports Illustrated seems to have it in for the New England Patriots with yet another seething article against them. I wonder, why? The 'running up the score' thing is getting to be a tired rant that I thought was put to rest. Then this.

I think they're running up the score. When you are 20+ points up in the 4th quarter, the unwritten rules are to run the ball to take the clock down rather than taking long shots downfield and using a pretty vanilla offense. I appreciate that running the ball down the field can lead to scoring opportunities but the Pats are going too far currently (and I'm not saying that just because I lost to Brady's late Welker TD last week in a fantasy league) :p

I have no problem with their defense continuing to play hard.

Plus, I think they're nuts to be leaving their starters in at that point - more for the risk of injury than anything else.

I'm looking forward to the game on Sunday though. Hopefully it will be a good one - but I do expect the Patriots to win.

Add him to the list that includes:
Peter King
Chris Collinsworth
Easterbrook (whose latest rant is beyond rational)
Dan Marino
Tom Jackson
Michael Wilbon (who wrote an article suggesting and opponent should "take out" Brady.
Sterling Sharpe
Jerome Bettis

The list is endless..

What people don't realize,is that when the defense is playing 7,8 in the box and playing it "run heavy",the risk of injury is greater than when you pass...I certainly don't expect them to take a knee every down either..Then again the Skins couldn't stop the Pat's second string QB from taking it in from 15 yards out..Damned if they, damned if they don't....

Well, I remember being angry about 3 things in Superbowl XX (I was 14 and teenagers are angry people):

1) The Bears running the score up.
2) The Bears scoring a TD with the f**kin Fridge.
3) The Fridge gets a TD, but Walter Peyton doesn't?

I haven't liked Ditka so much since.

I'll say it again, it's good to be a Pats fan in the 2000s.

I hope the Pats do it, too. I can understand the "cry foul" of running scores up in NCAA football when rankings and other factors are in play. But at the pro level, I don't see it the same. Ditka's comment may be hard nosed, but if the opposition doesn't like it, then stop 'em. NE did put in their second string.

And I'm admittedly prejudiced against a cry-baby NY Jets' finger pointing, early on. I don't like bullies or their ilk, but I can't help but admire excellence. Hoping Sunday's match up does not disappoint.
