Give the Pats an ASTERISK!!!

From http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/7416194...

The 1972 Miami Dolphins are the only team in NFL history to go undefeated in the regular season and playoffs. Shula, who coached that team, told the New York Daily News that the Patriots have "a real shot at doing it" this year but, if so, the NFL needs to place an asterisk in the record book because Bill Belichick got caught cheating in the Spygate scandal.

"The Spygate thing has diminished what they've accomplished. You would hate to have that attached to your accomplishments. They've got it," Shula told the Daily News. "Belichick was fined $500,000, the team was fined $250,00 and they lost a first-round draft choice. That tells you the seriousness or significance of what they found.

That is desperate and sad. At least wait until they've run the season before resorting to sour grapes.

'spygate' is the one hot mess of overblown hype.

You know the ironic part? Don Shula mentions losing a first round draft pick. Well guess what? Shula's Dolphins lost a first round pick in 1970 because of tampering. So I guess you could give them an asterisk too.

There's no denying the Patriots videotaped. But they got caught in the first quarter of the first game of the season. It had no effect on that game. Since then, they have been under extreme scrutiny of the NFL and have been clean since. So the videotaping thing hasn't helped their play on the field at all this season.

Don Shula's just a washed up old man who doesn't want his record to be broken. Now he's just giving the Patriots even more motivation, as if they even needed it.

Oh, and btw, the 72 Dolphins team wasn't even that good. The teams they beat had a combined winning percentage of only .400.

The videotaping is a technicality to begin with. Every team views the signals with their eyeballs... binoculars, what have you, and documents them. Just not on an actual camera, which really makes no difference towards getting an edge.

The Patriots = The Yankees = Stacked

Saying the '72 Dolphins team isn't good is like saying Tom Brady is a good quarterback. You could put Rex Grossman on that team, and because of the o-line and the incredible recievers he would even look good. Tom Brady is overrated, have him play on a team like Packers and he would be average where Favre is outstanding. And I'm not even a Packers fan (I live in Minnesota).

Really?Wow,now that's an illuminating statement considering he took the same exact team that Bledsoe sucked with to a Super Bowl victory as a rookie 6th round draft pick..Anybody that says Brady is overrated is obviously admitting they don't know their ass from their elbow about the game of football and should stop right there....Overrated my ass...

Shula sounds like the old man he is..He's getting a tight sphincter because he knows this is the team with the best shot of beating his 72 Dolphins record season....

So aside from Moss how many incredible receivers has Brady had to throw to in his years at New England?

Lethal

Gah. That is so backwards.... Tom Brady never had recievers... ever. Until this year. He was the superbowl mvp with a bunch of no-names that he was tossing to. If anything, he's underrated. We're finally seeing what he can do with receivers like Manning has had, and it turns out he's on pace to outperform Manning.

oh please. Grossman can't throw anything like Brady. put Brady on the Falcons, and they're in the playoffs this year, maybe even superbowl, easy. put Favre on there, and they are still 2-6 right now

I'm still laughing my f******g ass off at that one

Have you ever watched Brady play before this season? You realize he made it within 4 points of the Superbowl last year with RECHE CALDWELL and JABAR GAFFNEY?

If Bledsoe didn't get hurt in 2001, the Patriots that year would have ended up going like 4-12. Instead, Brady took over and they won the Superbowl.

Go back and watch tape of him in Superbowl XXXVI and XXXVIII when he drove down the field with less than 2 minutes left to put Vinatieri in field goal range. Then tell me another quarterback who could be that calm, cool, and collected in the pocket in that situation.

Also, have you ever seen Brady under pressure. Sure, he gets sacked sometimes and he doesn't go scrambling out like Vince Young, but he's excellent at sensing pressure, and he knows when to step up/to the side while he's in the pocket. He does this better than just about every QB in the league.

He's also one of (if not the) smartest player in the league right now.

Oh, btw, check out his numbers this year. 33 touchdowns and only 4 interceptions after 9 games is INSANE and unheard of. His rating is 131.8. That's like 10 points higher than the previous season record.

When Brady retires, he will be ranked as the best quarterback in NFL history. Higher than Montana, Elway, Unitas, Bradshaw, Marino, and Manning.

Oh, and your comment about the Patriots = Yankees is crap. There's a salary cap in football. The ****ing 0-8 Dolphins and 0-8 Rams can spend just as much as the Patriots and can get the same players. They're just too retarded to put together a good team.

Wow

I didn't know I would have 1000 pissed New England fans after me. All I'm saying is that when you have little to no pressure in the pocket, except a little bit in the Indy game, and some of the best receivers in the league on your team its really easy to look good. I'm not commenting about earlier years, just this year because things do change from year to year, after all Daunte Cullpepper was "supposed" to be really really good and look at where he is now. And about who is a good receiver besides Moss on the Patriots....well where do I begin Welker, Stallworth, and Watson. And if the Pats ever wanted to start a run game, their RB is Maroney who is ridiculous and should get the ball more. So it is kind of easy to say the Patriots are stacked. I wish some non-Patriot or unbiased fans would comment on this...if there are any.

Nobody is saying the Patriots aren't stacked. But we're saying that Brady is the best QB in game. He's not "overrated"

Oh and BTW, the Patriots have the 4th ranked rushing offense in the league.

. So it is kind of easy to say the Patriots are stacked..

They're "stacked" at WR this year, but they were winning Super Bowls (3) when they weren't stacked and Brady wasn't as seasoned..They didn't even have one top flight receiver when they won them..You tend to lose credibility when you say Brady is overrated.. And put Rex Grossman in Brady's shoes to start the second half against the Colts this past Sunday, and he'd piss his pants and run home crying....Even Marino, who can't stand the Pats, praises Brady..
------

The Colts released their first injury report of the week Wednesday,
with 10 players listed as not participating in practice. They were:

Middle linebacker Gary Brackett (hip), defensive tackle Raheem Brock
(neck), tight end Dallas Clark (concussion), offensive tackle Dan
Federkeil (concussion), defensive end Dwight Freeney (team decision),
safety Matt Giordano (hamstring), wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez
(hand), cornerback Marlin Jackson (foot), offensive guard Ryan Lilja
(team decision) and offensive tackle Tony Ugoh (neck).

Wide receiver Marvin Harrison (knee), linebacker Rocky Boiman
(shoulder), linebacker Tyjuan Hagler (neck) and linebacker Freddy
Keiaho (ear) were listed as participating on a limited basis.

Thats what happens when smaller players run into larger ones as hard as they can. The Colts were hitting hard and they paid the price.
not looking good for a game against the chargers....but the chragers suck so it might be even

Thanks for the funniest thing I've read today!

:D
The comment is what greeted me when I opened up the thread and, I'd have to say, my reaction was the same. :D And this asterisk thing attached to a projected NE undefeated season is plain, unadulterated bullocks. Beside the NFL wouldn't be as hypocritical as MLB.

The videotaping is a technicality to begin with. Every team views the signals with their eyeballs... binoculars, what have you, and documents them. Just not on an actual camera, which really makes no difference towards getting an edge.

It's worse than that. It's legal to take still pics from the sidelines, AND it's legal to shoot video from the stands (Bill Cower said on national TV that this was legal and he would have people doing it every game). So the sum total of what the Pats did was to move a video camera from it's legal spots in the stands and put it where most teams have still cameras on the sidelines. Cry more.

Well gee, alert the newspapers - having time to throw makes a difference. However, for QBs like Chad Pennington or Jake Delhomme, having good protection and good receivers makes them look merely very good. For QBs like Brady or Manning, having good protection and good receivers makes them look completely unstoppable.

Does anyone else think Derek Anderson is the next big quarterback in the NFL?
