I think the worst part about the NFL Network is Bryant Gumbel. He is awful as an analyst/play by play guy..Gimme a drunk Pat Summerall or drunk Paul McGuire anytime over Gumbel...

I say no one should watch the game tonight and teach them a lesson...

why? because cable networks are too stubborn to put it on their basic package?

directv btw, and i'll probably be watching at least some of it.

i wonder if there were the only announcers available tonight to do a game? come on nfl, pull your muscle and get better announcers.

and worse, colinsworthless is usually doing commentary.

Stubbornness? It's economics.

Can you name one person who doesn't think that they are paying too much for satellite or cable? Comcast has to PAY the NFL Network to have them in their line-up. The same thing happened a few years ago with ESPN. They raised their rates and the providers balked until they came to some "understanding."

Most people think that the cable and satellite providers are doing these networks a favor. It's the other way around. The content providers are doing the providers a favor. Right now more people are signing up for Directv because they made a deal with the devil (the NFL network) and the other's haven't caved in yet.

A few years ago the congress passed a "must carry" rule. That was lead by TBN (a Christian network with over-the-air stations in every city). So instead of you and I being able to choose NBC West and NBC East, we HAVE to watch the crap in our home town. Plus, the providers had to open bandwidth to carry all these crappy local stations.

So getting the NFL Network costs us all money instead of selling the games to the networks who know how to do it better (and for us, for free).

Now the NFL makes money from the subscription fees AND the advertising.

AND they CONTROL the product.

They already "own" ESPN... remember how they "persuaded" them cancel that soap opera football show?

In the future, instead of ESPN and FOX talking about Vick and Taylor and Pac Man, we will all be watching the NFL channel and they'll be feeding us "Favre's Family" a sitcom about a cajun family transplanted to cheese country.

Farve is out... ouch. Too bad - the Packers are a great story and the Cowboys are just annoying.
Now 27-17. If Rodgers brings them back, it'll be huge. No pressure on Romo, and TO's having his way with the secondary. Gotta change the second half, or it's lights out.

I don't know what we're talking about, but I'm watching the Dallas/Green Bay game, and so far it's 24(gb)-27(dal).... and if Dallis wins this, I'm going to be really really pissed. 1 minute to go in the 3rd quarter. :X

I refuse to buy satellite or cable... (so I don't know what the hell is going on!)

Is Brett's injury serious?
Right elbow hit while passing in 1st. He had it x-rayed at half and came back with his pads on, and just a ball cap, so doesn't look that bad. Rodgers has made a valiant effort to bring them back, but with a minute to go they just went down 37-27 with a field goal. Defense did not get the job down for the Pack, tonight, as Romo threw for 309 yards and 4 Ts.

I still don't understand why GB didn't go for it on 4th and 1 with 5 minutes to play, get it in, then try the onside, instead of kicking a 52 yard field goal.

Well, that's good, I guess. NFL.com says Farve threw 2 interceptions and he was only in the game for a quarter?!! That was on track to be Manning-esq!

In fairness, his second pick was the injury when his arm got hit and the ball deflected. Still it's two ints. in the first 5 minutes of play in the 2nd Q.

I just don't like the Cowboys....all the way back from how they treated Landry, to their keeping up with the Jones's. But they beat the Pack back tonight so have earned whatever NFC bragging rights for the moment.

When down by 10 you need the 3 and the TD to tie. If you're in FG range get the points and then proceed to work the TD side, it puts you within one score. If you go for it and don't get it, then you're still 2 scores down. I agreed with going for the FG.

The penalties on D killed the Packers.

Lethal

Have you watched many of their games this year? The Pack has been really bad on the Defensive penalties this year. Lot of PI calls and quite a few facemasks, although the facemasks were quite prolific tonight.

Of course Harris' takeaway on Owens in the first quarter could have gone either way so the game could have had a very different outcome.

Well at least I don't feel so bad about next year, Rodgers managed to prove he might amount to something with enough playing time. He just needs a haircut, and while he's going, could he give Hawk a ride too? (that is unless their going for matching dreadlocks like Harris and Bigby)....

Dallas was given an early christmas(or hanukah) gift from the refs. Harris stripped the ball and they say his forward progress was stopped BS! And then that pass interference call in the 4th quarter, more BS!
It was just like the Dallas vs Giants 2 weeks ago the refs handed them that one, too . On Romo's 1st TD he was over the line and then they called back an 82 yard return by Bradshaw on a bad holding call. The NFL must let teams throw the red flag on these big penatly calls.

Good work boys. Ignore the knife on the bed, the break-in a week before and a robbery that starts in the bedroom.

It's all after the fact, but when you're down by 10 with 5 min. on the clock, you need 10. 3rd and 1 on the 25, then 4th and 1. You can't get one yard on two tries, I'd say you're conceding the game by kicking at that point, which is pretty much how it played out. Either way GB's D had to stop them the next series which they were pretty consistently not able to do.....all night long. So 3 down or 7 down makes it all moot when Dallas runs the field for another score, and clock down to a minute.

When you're down by more than 10, yes you go for it. But when you only need 10 to tie, you take what you can get FG or TD when you can get it. The order doesn't matter. They had been stopped on third and one and a run is expected since passing has a myriad of other risks. Take the FG on that series and work for the TD on the next one. If you don't make your 4th down conversion you're still stuck 2 scores down and still need both the FG and TD. At least with the FG you've brought it to within one score to tie. I'd agree with you whole heartedly had they been down by 11 or more points, but 10 or less is a situation where you need to take the FG and then go for the TD on the next series if you're on fourth down in FG range, if you're not in FG range you go for it but since you need the 3 along with the 7, there is no shame or concession in taking the 3 when the opportunity is presented.

I won't blame the refs in this game. I can see how Harris' call could go either way (I'd really prefer it to have gone the other way though, so I can't be totally objective in my analysis of the replay). The PI call in the 4th was a lot of good acting. The contact on the arm is enough for a ref to call it, so a review would not have been able to change the call. However the falling over was a very convincing act, until watched in replay repeatedly.

Now I just have to hope the Pack wins the remaining 4 games and Dallas only gets 2 out of their 4. Then we can see how Romo and the Boys do in Lambeau in the dead of winter. They Boys definitely outplayed the Pack last night, our defense was not as good as it has been (why couldn't we seem to get any pressure on Romo?) but the offense did a pretty good job, really well when you take into account that most of the game was done by our second string QB. At least now I'm not so pessimistic about our chances of winning next year...

Kind of like the early 90's all over again,lol..How about them Cowboys?? All that's missing is Michael Irvin, the hookers and the cocaine :p

Seriously, the Cowboys played better and Romo had a good game. We'll see how they finish out the string..But TO is with popcorn is old already..

I listened to the first quarter on AM radio in the car on the
way home from work.

I watched the 2nd quarter streamed on my laptop hooked up to
my flat panel. Choppy as hell, but watchable and better
than the radio. Found out my new MBP 2.4 SR does
not display 1080p on my set (a known issue, grumble, grumble).
Had to lower the resolution to 720p. Damn,
my 3 year old powerbook g4 had no trouble with 1080p!!!
Wait, wrong thread here...

Missed most of the 3rd quarter as the first sports bar we went
to was PACKED - impossible to enjoy the game. Walked
5 blocks in the COLD to a dive bar to enjoy the entire 4th quarter.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good game. Cowboys deserved
to win even though I don't like 'em much.

As per paying money to receive NFL network. Screw that! Maybe if
there were no commercials, but it's ad supported, so forget it!
