i was not a particularly big fan of taylor, specifically, though i generally saw past his young adult mistakes (maybe because i'm a redskins fan), but this is really sad. i woke up today and sort of zoned in and out of the sports radio alarm... i got this weird feeling that he'd died, from the way the radio announcers were talking about him (not directly saying he'd passed away)... i shot up with that sick sense of dread and checked the internet just to confirm the feeling. uggh.

the fact is, no more should be made of his death than the many others who die in similarly unnecessary ways the world over, but that doesn't take the sting out of it, football aside.

RIP #21.

Hmm..try five Super Bowl victories..

I'm not sure that qualifies as "elite" in today's game. NFL "eliteness" is very much a "what have you done for me lately?" kind of thing. I would not even think of calling SF an "elite" team, despite their dominance in the 80s.

Well, Colin Cowherd just alluded to it and I think it rings true... Taylor may have cleaned up his act but his past was still dirty.

If I find God this morning all my enemies are still godless this afternoon.

There was a report that someone tried to break in to his house last week. Someone did it again this week. They left a knife on his bed last week and they shot him in his bedroom this week.

He might have been shot in the leg because the shooter was a bad shot or it could have been a warning shot that hit an artery instead of flesh and his death was an "accident". Seems strange to shoot someone in the leg if you really want to kill them.

So, if in fact his death may have a connection to his past then I think it would be wise for the NFL and other professional sports to learn something from it. I think Vick is a learning experience for others as well.

1. Don't be a dumbass when you are young.
2. Don't continue to be a dumbass when you are old.
3. Don't associate with other dumbasses... ever.

Hmm..try five Super Bowl victories..leading the league in defense..I don't know, how does one think that.

Really? This current team has won five SB's??Wow,I musta missed a couple or four
Musta been the road losses to Denver,ARI and the J-E-T-S that confused me as well.....Yeah,real "eliteness" there...

too late for me. time to skip town before i die.

but seriously, one of the local talk show hosts said that this death and pata's death last year was going to make um look bad (as in guilty by association) and make miami look like a school for bad kids when it's not. it's a shame, i hope um doesn't turn out to get a worse reputation because of these incidents involving current and former um players (no, i didn't go to school there).

It's dark, the shooter missed once and probably over compensated for recoil the second time thus hitting ST in the leg. It's very easy to shoot all over the place when it's dark, adrenaline is going, and you are pulling off shots in rapid succession.

so you're of the opinion that people can't make mistakes and move on and/or be forgiven?

yes, i'd agree that you can't just say "i'm done with that" and necessarily have it be fixed overnight. look at trying to exit a gang... easier said than done. but to say don't be a dumbass when you're young is like saying don't eat food that tastes good. the definition of being young is pretty much doing dumb things. it seems like it allows the blame to be shifted back onto taylor somehow, rather than whoever it was that killed him

If you join a gang or the mafia or whatever, then yes, you are a part of the problem if that is the cause of your death.

And I don't know which is better, to think that his death was because of his past or simply a random act of violence. As an average-Joe citizen, I suggest the former.

Wow,that was fast..
RICKY DONE FOR SEASON

The Ricky Williams comeback tour lasted one game and six carries.

Tim Graham of the Palm Beach Post reports that Williams' season is over after he suffered a torn chest muscle in Monday night's loss to the Steelers. The injury will require about four months to fully recover, Graham reports.

The injury took place in the second quarter, when Williams was hit, fumbled and fell to the ground and was then stepped on by Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons. It was Williams' first game in almost two years, after he was suspended for violations of the league's substance-abuse policy.

"It's just sad," Graham quotes Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg, saying. "As hard as he's worked. He worked so hard physically to get back into shape and in therapy. He worked so hard for that moment and to have it end this way is sad."

Graham reports that the Dolphins want Williams to rehab the injury at the team's facilities, indicating that they're open to having Williams on the team in 2008.

Ricky..You can't take two years off, smoke ganja and expect to just come back to the NFL...

Patriots placed Rosevelt Colvin on IR today because of a foot injury :(

They also activated WR Troy Brown from the PUP and re-signed LB Chad Brown.

Most likely Adalius Thomas is going to move to OLB taking Colvin's place, and Seau will take Thomas' place as the second starting ILB.

Heard that on EEI when it broke..Tough losing Colvin, but glad to see Troy back. Not like the Pats haven't dealt with injuries before ;)

Whose was that size 15 shoe that trounced his right shoulder on the way over his back to recover the fumble? I don't know that two year's layoff are to blame for that ouch to have been prevented.

I've got to think it does. Missing two training camps, plus all that game time and practice can't be a good thing. It's got to affect your ability to make a quick read, find the hole avoid hits etc.Working out with a trainer to get "in shape" is a whole lot different than being in game shape by working out with the team, training camp etc..
Sad part is,he could have had a real productive NFL career barring injury of course.Tho I still can't get that picture of him in the wedding dress out of my head :D

ok so no room for someone to change or reform. got it. i think that attitude is a big part of the problem too.
