A few comments:

1) It appears that Sean Taylor's past finally caught up with him. It appears this may have been a deliberately-planned killing. :(

2) The Steelers' management is now definitely open to the idea of replacing the grass field with FieldTurf at Heinz Field. What made the problem worse was the fact they played five football games over the weekend (four high school games and one University of Pittsburgh game), which ground up the sod really bad to start with; when they put in the new sod on top of the old sod, there was the extreme misfortune of extremely heavy rain last Sunday and Monday, which turned that new sod into something just only a bit more stable than quicksand. I wouldn't be surprised that the FieldTurf gets installed as soon as the NFL season ends.

Huh? The heavy rains were a surprise to the head groundskeeper?!! That's like a farmer not knowing the weather.

ok so no room for someone to change or reform. got it. i think that attitude is a big part of the problem too.

Back off on a few of those Jell-o shots before typing.

When did I ever say that there is no room to reform? This isn't about the reformed, it's about those that haven't reformed.

If you join the Army today and get shipped off to Iraq and find out that you don't really like the thought of killing people or having people trying to kill you -- so you quit -- guess what? You're still in the Army. And people are still shooting at you.

I haven't followed the story that closely, but that was my reaction, too. How could an important, costly endeavor like the re-sodding of an NFL Football field get "caught" by surprise by the deluge of a heavy, prolonged rain pattern? Terrible timing.

Anyone excited about this thursday's Dallas vs GB game? Two 10-1
teams! I'm pissed it's only on the NFL network (don't
get it). Sports bar here I come!

Should have been done sooner..Grass fields for football stadiums don't fare well in the northeast, esp this time of year.. How the hell do you put down new sod when a heavy rain is forecast??

EXPECT ARTIFICIAL TURF AT HEINZ FIELD

All the fallout from last night's mess of a game in Pittsburgh leads to one conclusion: You can expect to see artificial turf at Heinz Field in 2008.

ESPN has spent almost as much time decrying the turf in Pittsburgh last night as it has talking about Sean Taylor.

Even before last night's game, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that the Steelers were examining the possibility of installing artificial turf after the season.

Per Bouchette, the Steelers knew the surface on their field was in trouble even before last night and didn't feel comfortable covering it with new sod this weekend. Furthermore, the University of Pittsburgh, which also uses Heinz Field, would prefer to play on Field Turf, Bouchette reports.

The surface installed this year at West Virginia University is a new generation of Field Turf called Duraspine, and the Steelers have visited WVU to check out the turf. The price for WVU was $901,152, Bouchette reports, which is a small price for an NFL team to know it won't be playing its home games in muck.

I can't get my mind off of it tonight....

I have the NFL network but am going to a sports bar with some co-workers (actually my bosses) to watch the game tonight (I'll TiVo it as well but shouldn't need the replays).

Given the pattern of the Cowboys playing well in the second half and the Pack usually piddling away much of their half time leads in the second half to make games closer than they should be, I predict the Pack getting off to an early lead with the Cowboys slow start. After the half, the Cowboys will come back and make the game close, but depending on how much of a lead the Pack can secure in the first half I still think the game is a tossup.

I personally think the Cowboys win the game tonight because they have a proven running game, which means the Cowboys can "eat the clock" and keep Brett Favre off the field. :)

The Pack's D-Secondary has to have a good game against the Cowboys offensive pass attack, and their D-Line must put pressure on the QB. If they do that, I like their chances. Most lines are showing a +7 Pack win with >51 points scored but even though EinsteinPicks boasts a perfect 11-0 ATS in the NFL over the past two weeks, it doesn't speak well of their grammatical prowess when they say, "as we have went a perfect 11-0...". :D

The Pack has been improving their running over the last 4 weeks, and they've shown our D can stop the run (remember Adrian Peterson?). If the Cowboys' secondary is as weak as some make it seam a few long passes could open up the Packers running game.

The Pack (this season) has usually dominated the first half and managed to lose it in the second half making games close (or their single loss). Talking to my co-workers (Cowboys fans) they seem to indicate that the Boys do just the opposite and play better in the second half.

By my guess if the Pack can't seem to pressure Romo, or Harris can't keep up with TO, we need to be leading by 14-points or more at the half. Anything less will probably give the edge to the Boys in the second half.

At any rate it should be an awesome game (of course having said that either one of the teams will not show up, or we're going to watch an exercise in who wants to lose more than a great game...).

That's the only thing I hope doesn't happen tonight. We'd all like to see both teams on and make a good game of it. I still have the Pats by 6.

Freudian slip? :)

No, the Pats are just so good this season they're starting to win games they don't even play in...

At this rate they're going to finish the season 91 - 0....

5 more wins + the 15 other games every week for the remaining 5 weeks...

LOL. Provided they go back to smashing their opponants unlike the Colts/Eagles, I'll agree to that. :)

I have the NFL Network and it's nice to have.. but I absolutely HATE listening to Bryant Gumble.

**** the nfl network. its pointless. put the games on regular tv.
Sometimes living down where they pirate™ things has its ventajas. I think we'll see it on the ESPN Cable Channel. If not, I'll be back in here later tonight mourning that fact.

All I've been hearing about since Sunday night is "blueprint" talk. The Colts/Eagles showed a blueprint on how to lose by a little instead of a lot. The blueprint for beating the Pats hasn't been developed yet.
Should be a great game tonight..F the NFL network..That's what sport's bars are for...:p

I wonder if the owners of the NFL network have a lot of stock holdings in Sports Bars? Think about it. A monster game and people get outraged, so cable either acquiesces and pays them a buttload of money, or everyone goes to sports bars and the sports bars make a mint... Win-Win if the NFL network owners have sports bars....

See the NFL network is ****ing pointless.

The NFL would make more money in advertising if they ran it on primetime CBS/FOX/NBC than they will with the stupid NFL network subscription fees.

Well, that's the thing. Now the NFL makes money from the subscription fees AND the advertising. They've cut out the middleman of the networks. It's pure greed. I remember reading something last year that they hope to eventually have an NFL game thurs/fri/sat/sun.

Except they could sell the ad spots for way more money if it was on primetime network television rather than on their ****** network that 70% of Americans don't get.

Not necessarily.

If they can get people to get mad enough and the cable companies acquiesce and pay them the fees. The NFL gets the subscription fees + all the advertising for the games on the NFL network. As it currently stands, I'm sure they get money from the networks and I assume a portion of the ad revenue, but if they can get the NFL network to enough people all of a smaller pie could easily eclipse the piece of the big pie.

True. For now. I'm sure they're banking on the future.

Which is exactly why they only show one game a week on it. This weeks just happens to be big enough to draw a lot of attention and put pressure on the cable companies to pick it up, so they can run more NFL games on it and pressure more cable companies, etc...

I say no one should watch the game tonight and teach them a lesson...

I get the NFL network purely as an accidental by-product of getting Fox Soccer Channel. My local cable company has a sports package for $2.50 /month which gives a group of sports programming. Pretty good deal.
