I'm predicting 0-0 and penalties to decide it. Terry will fall over (again), and Everton win.

For those who care, they can follow Setanta commentator John Champion on twitter @CommenTweeter who is tweeting from the gantry. He's also tweeting during the game.

Well that was unexpected. Hopefully it will make for a really good game of football.

Great goal :D Do you think there was an offside in there though? I would enjoy seeing the Toffees win the cup but I doubt they can hold of Chelsea for another 80 minutes

Definitly offside before making the cross. Has made for a great game so far.

Well done Chelsea – expect renewed calls for goal-line technology in the Sunday papers, mind...

Definitely over the line, thankfully it didn't affect the result.

In regards to this I read a recent article about video technology or arguments against it and in stead have extra officals.

Raises some interesting points and would be a better addition than video replays.

Also congratulations to a certain north of the border member here. Although that is a ridiculous hat that Novo is pictured wearing :D.

Whew! Been away from the computer for four whole days...

I watched the CL final at a football pub in Columbus...it was mostly populated with Man U fans, but the Barca fans were louder....on the way in we bumped into USA international (and Columbus) right back Frankie Hejduk, just walking around town. After the game we headed over to Crew Stadium and watched Columbus get their second win of the season. We sat in the supporters section and sang the whole game, despite the rain. A whole day of football after two months working in the desert!

Far from it, Barcelona were average and in general the game was average at best. Manchester United were missing in the game, I think they began to believe the hype and just assumed that they would win somehow.

I thought Barca looked very good for certain spells but it was hard to judge their performance because United were so awful. Very little attack and gave the ball up constantly. Their midfield didn't exist. I was actually shocked at the performance...

I believe that any of the top teams in Europe could've beaten Barcelona based on that performance (of course it would've been a totally different game). I also believe that the bottom teams in Europe could've beaten United on that performance.

I think you're probably right. Barca's defense wasn't really tested much (though United it get through a few times, so we don't know how well it would have withstood a serious attack. On an average night, any top team would have shown far more defensive resilience than United did. While watching the game I couldn't help thinking that if Liverpool were playing instead of United...well, I guess it's a moot point - as you said, the game would have been completely different.

I thought Puyol was man of the match...though he and Ronaldo seemed to be engaged in some sort of diving contest for a while there.

Congrats to Barca!

QUOTE OF THE DAY
"The Football League's independent 'Football Disciplinary Commission' today deducted Crystal Palace Football Club 1 point from its end of season total of 57 points. The decision follows the fielding of an ineligible player, Rui Fonté, versus Sheffield United on the 3rd May 2009" - The Football League announces the savage punishment meted out to Crystal Palace, which means that, instead of finishing the Championship season in 15th place with 57 points, history will show that the Eagles actually finished ... in 15th place with 56 points. That'll teach them!

Heh – I got a paltry 7/25 on the red card one (although in defence there was one name I couldn't get spelt right, so I can perhaps claim an 8), 11 out of 13 on the goalscorers, but an impressive 40 out of 42 of the Premier League clubs. So there you go. :p

Meanwhile, it appears that Mr Windass is to be appointed assistant manager at Darlington – their new manager Colin Todd was of course the gaffer at Bradford City while Deano was there.

So, Gareth Barry has headed off to Manchester City for a fee of £12million. He was saying last year that he might have to leave Villa Park for a team playing Champions League football, so it comes as something of a surprise that he'd leave Villa (who at least have the Europa League next season) for City, who of course haven't qualified for any European competition. His decision to join the salary-tastic richest club in the world™ therefore seems something of a surprise. ;)

Meanwhile, we've released eight players today – four kids and four seniors. Windass has gone to Darlington as I mentioned yesterday, John Welsh the Invisible Scouser has also been shown the door, but I'm mentioning this because the other two names might be of interest to some of our regular posters.

Michael Bridges is now a free agent, so that means if Carlisle United want the striker then there'll be no fee involved at all. And the fourth senior player to go is Ryan France, who 'a number of my sources' tell me has been in talks with Sheffield Wednesday about a potential move to Hillsborough...

Adams in running for Celtic job

Well this is a suprise. As much as I like Tony, he's proved nothing as a manager and I'd expect Celtic to only consider someone with some sort of success as a manager, not to mention more experience. I think I'd be questioning Wim Jansen's credentials as technical director :p

As Mrs. Merton might have put it: "So Gareth, what first attracted you to billionaire Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan?"
