Reports this evening are suggesting that erstwhile Manchester City target Kaka has signed for Real Madrid in a £56million deal. Cripes. Maybe we should have held out for something on Michael Bridges.

His spokesman is saying the deal is not yet complete, though...

Maybe Kaka doesn't like Ancelotti as much as some thought. So much for a heralded move to Stamford Bridge.

If Real really do sign him, what do you think they'll offer for Ronaldo to have the two of them ready to welcome Perez to the Bernabeu?

Of the two, Kaka was the smarter choice IMHO. Real need someone who'll step up and carry the team on his shoulders and i just don't think Ronaldo is capable of that (eg. Portugal).

Regarding Gareth's move i gotta say i like the logic behind it but also admit i had him down in my book as an Arsenal player next season.

Silly Real Madrid think they can buy themselves to a championship. It's going to be hard for them to compete with the greatest team in spanish history, and one of the best in footballing history.

Silly Real, who are they to assume they could do a Chelsea and win something next season?

Actually I'm a Man Utd fan but am starting to envy this very excellent Barcelona squad :p
Rereading my comment above, i think it came out wrong but it was meant in good spirit

I'm not sure how long Barca will last at the top, they tend to go off after a year or two. Similar to what pachyderm said, I don't like these wealthy teams, unless of course it's some rich sugar daddy who wants to plough millions into my team!:D

I've been to Camp Nou, and I've also had the pleasure of being to a Real match. I like both teams, but which is better? There's only one way to find out! FIGHT!

(that Harry Hill joke may be lost on our American cousins)

Anyway, this is the silly season, I probably won't post again until the new thread is set up because I generally can't keep with all the players I've never heard of before being linked with somewhere then it all falls through. See you guys next season.:)

Big World Cup qualifier in CONCACAF today, as my boys take on Costa Rica. They are second behind us, so if Costa Rica win they go top of the group.

GO USA!

We are completely lost on this artificial surface...can't connect with any passes or even dribble with any effectiveness - plus total disaster in the back. Acres of space afforded to Costa Rica on both goals. Our patched together defense is playing awful. Torres is our best outfield player at the moment, he seems to be the only one able to do anything on this pitch.

To be fair, the Costa Ricans came out absolutely flying and seem used to the pitch. Could be 4-0 to Costa Rica, but for the heroics of Tim Howard. USA usually plays a stronger second half and we have great fitness, plus I don't think Costa Rica can keep up the crazy tempo in the second half. We can still get a result here, but only if we completely transform our play in the second half.

This is not a World Cup-ready squad.

EDIT: And as soon as I say that Torres is the best outfield player, he is subbed out for Sacha Kljestan. Wonder what Bob Bradley is trying to do here...it's not just the turf, we are total crap tonight for some reason.

EDIT2: 3-0 and it's all over. Ugh. Terrible performance. Crap turf, missing key players and bad performances all round. Not a good day.

Real Madrid nowadays is like the New York Yankees--they think they can buy their way to a championship. Mind you, there are some who claim that Real Madrid are buying off La Liga referees, too.

So, Wigan are talking to Swansea manager Roberto Martinez about taking over as their manager. Martinez of course is a Wigan legend as a player.

However, what I didn't know until this morning is that the Swansea assistant manager is Graeme Jones, who holds the Wigan record for most goals in a season with 31 in 1996.

Edit: Also, just came across this piece of news which may interest JC:

Manchester United trio, striker Fraizer Campbell, full-back Danny Simpson and midfielder Darron Gibson have been placed on the transfer list at Old Trafford.

You can understand the thinking behind the Everton shirt – it's based on a vintage design apparently very popular among the club's supporters – but I really don't think it works at all well, at least from these photos.

Yeh they went with a brocade dickey look....
