What do you think the Tigers' biggest need is, to improve their defense, or to find a reliable goal-scorer?
Good question. The interesting thing is, most people aren't looking at the defence as a priority which is surprising given that we had one of the least watertight back lines in the division.

I think we need attention across the park. In terms of central defenders I think we're reasonably okay, we have Michael Turner who's fantastic, and Anthony Gardner put in some impressive performances when he was fit. Zayette potentially could deputise, while we've just acquired Steven Mouyokolo, a young French defender who apparently Arsenal were tracking in January and who is probably best known in the UK for his Ibiza floor filler Sing It Back. We could do with recruiting a quality right back though, to keep Ricketts on his toes. At left back we should be okay, we have Dawson, Kilbane and at a pinch Ricketts who can play there too.

Moving onto our midfield, creativity wise I reckon we're okay with Geovanni and Bullard, who's set to make an Autumn return. We do need a good ball-winning midfielder... Boateng is getting on now and looks to have lost his pace, and Ashbee isn't getting any younger either – and it remains to be seen how well he'll come back from his current injury. The aforementioned Zayette could perhaps fill this role, though. So far as the centre of midfield is concerned, Kevin Nolan is a player whose name has cropped up a few times in the past week – certainly Brown knows him well from their time together at Bolton and I wouldn't be surprised to see us go in for him.

I think the wings are where we need to spend some money – we need a player on each side who is fast and can deliver a good ball. Our forwards failed to impress last season and that's due in part to the fact that we weren't getting particularly good delivery into the box, and this is something that we need to address quite urgently.

Which brings us quite neatly onto our goalscorers, who generally forgot last season that one of their primary roles is to, er, score goals. When your joint second highest scorer is a central defender who ambles forwards for corners, that's probably a sign you need a new striker or two. Someone with a bit of pace, a bit of intelligence and good composure infront of goal please.

I reckon that should do it. Ultimately, if we can find a better option for any player – unless he wears a big '6' on his back – we ought to take a look and see if he'll improve on what we have already.

I heard Phil Brown on the radio today (available here about 30 minutes in) and he talked about this past season. He said he would like more goals from the strikers and maybe someone from midfield who could put in around 8-10 goals. He also said they need to keep more clean sheets next season.

So what JC said echos what the gaffer said. The radio show/podcast was also supposed to have on the Hull chairman, but he didn’t make it in.

Did they mention where he was reckoned to be, or was it just a simple no show?

The inadequacies that exist in our squad are pretty plain to see, after a disastrous January transfer window – a key reason for our slump towards the end of the season – it's absolutely vital we get things right when it comes to our recruitment over the summer.

They didn't mention where your chairman was. They just said that their calls were going straight to voice mail. The radio hosts believe he will be on next week. He's been on that program before, as had Phil Brown.

Figures. I skip listening to World Soccer Daily for one day and they have a Premier League manager on...Oh well, I at least I can download it.

I think the new black Liverpool kit looks pretty decent....not so much on the new Everton, West Ham and Chelski kit.

Here's a look at all the kits that have been officially announced: http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/English_Football_League/season/2009-2010/premier-league.html

The ones I like:
Birmingham Away
Burnley Home and Away
Liverpool Away
Stoke Away

The ones I dislike:
Everton Home (Not on here yet, but leaked pictures are ugly)
Bolton Home
Chelsea Home

The Everton one has been officially released now, but still doesn't look any better for it! Curiously though, their new goalkeeper's shirt uses the same template but is green with a black 'V' - and to me at least it looks a lot better than the outfield shirt...

Sky Sports News is reporting that we've had a £6million bid accepted for the boy Campbell. If what I hear is true, there were a few other clubs in for him but as it stands we're apparently the only ones to have been given permission to discuss terms with the lad.

The number 9 shirt's vacant at the moment...

BBC has picked up the story...must be good news for the club, a young striker with potential.

Decent comeback win for the USA against Honduras, but we lost starting center back Carlos Bocanegra to hamstring injury...now we are heading into the Confederations Cup in a group with Italy, Brazil and Egypt - are you havin' a laugh? I hope we don't embarrass ourselves but our form is not good right now.

Indeed – hopefully he can pick up where he left off for us. We saw with John Welsh what can sometimes happen when a loan player signs permanently, they can go off the boil. Young Fraizer seems a sensible enough lad with a good head on his shoulders though, so hopefully he'll cope okay with leaving Old Trafford behind – assuming of course we can agree terms with the lad.

Random football kit story:

I've spent the weekend in Las Vegas (and "spent" really is the way to describe it), and among the foreign tourists I saw a few Man United shirts, one England shirt, and, interestingly enough, a Hull City shirt! The Tigers fan was heading into a casino and I didn't have a chance to speak to him. I also bumped into two very large Scotsmen with tattoos all over their arms wearing Rangers shirts. I congratulated them on winning the SPL and they recognized the USA jersey I was wearing with a U-S-A! chant, and a shout out to DaMarcus Beasley.

No doubt he was surrounded by a large crowd of beautiful women admiring his shirt, it's a problem I suffer from myself. It's little wonder you couldn't get any closer to him.

Well, he did have an attractive woman with him - so maybe there's something in that. He was wearing an 08-09 away shirt by the way...I now realize that I watch too much football because I can recognize a Premier League away jersey on sight.

£10, Oasis tickets and a Curly Wurly

The offers come flying in for Newcastle United F.C. :D
The fools – Ashley would never accept any of those offers. Everyone knows consortiums are the way forward in buying football clubs – those bidders should pool their resources and put a joint bid in. A tenner, Oasis tickets and a Curly Wurly together might just swing it. :D

£100million, eh? Or two Kakas...

I'm not so sure, you can grab a bloody good football club for just a tenner

Indeed, but let's not forget Newcastle United are the biggest club in the world – you'd probably have to bid a bit higher for them. :p

And NathanCH – I'm getting a bit concerned over some of Adidas' offerings, given that there are indications that we might be moving over to them after our deal with Umbro comes to an end next season. We don't want to end up with something dodgy like that new template the Chelsea shirt is based on...

Hmm... it seems Netherlands and Norway are playing for the Unofficial Football World Champions title tonight...

I have a feeling Norway is gonna loose the title match...as they've done in all their 10 attempts so far...often with horrible results, like 0-10 against Sweden in 1946, 3-7 (in Bergen) against Scotland in 1929, 0-3 at home against Poland in 1989.

I wouldn't be surprised if another thrashing was added to the list... ;)

I know it's just a friendly, but right now, according to the BBC, New Zealand are beating Italy 3-2. Third time we've taken the lead.

Hilarious. :D

Curses! The dastardly Italians came back to win 4-3.

Still. It was good for a chuckle for a wee while.

Footie fact of the day™: The New Zealand soccerball team is called the All Whites. Somehow, I think the All Blacks name has been taken... and it would be kinda funny to see 11 refs running around in the outfield.

The lunacy and hyping has already started.

England beat Andorra — ranked 196th in the world between Aruba and Dominica — by six goals at Wembley and now the press has started calling them 'impressive'... and in the Time's case 'The Invincibles'.
