I like the sponsors on shirts. Look plain without them.

Good showing for Carlisle last night, 2-1 defeat at the hands of 'Boro who went with a strong starting line up which included Brad Jones, Robert Huth, Jonatham Weater, Aliadiere, Didier Digard (Who scored a 30-yard wonder goal), Mohammad Shawky, Mido, Adam Johnston and Alfonso Alves. Tuncay, Arca and Emnes got some time on the pitch as well.

The mighty blues did well. Got my ticket for Bristol Rovers away as well, first game of the season only just over a week away. :D

They look better without sponsor logos...

yep, it’s less of a chavtastic billboard on nylon sportwear without a logo.

If clubs could give the fans a choice I reckon that they would shift a lot more replica shirts – but the sponsors would not like that of course.

Aren’t Barca doing that UNICEF on their shirts for 4 years to get their fans used to a logo before they get a paying sponsor on?

Well they've almost been relegated the past few seasons so a few extra coppers wouldn't go amiss.

BTW Markleshark - were the mighty Boro' any good last night?

Erm, I'm not sure. They kept a lot of possession but didn't really do a great deal with it. It was a good run out, and I enjoyed the game very much. I can imagine a few smoggies went home disappointed though.

There was a moment after about 20 seconds when Alves got the ball, touched, turned and took out the Carlisle United defense as a singular entity and I thought it was going to be a long night, it should have been 1-0, but it wasn't to be.

Sounds like a typical pre-season for us then. A fit Alves from the start of the season should help us move upwards - our lack of goals really cost us last season.

But it's still July!

Bloody hell, is that the football season started in earnest already!

That's Rangers put in a dire European performance already and it's not even August. Funny enough, couldn't get the game on Setanta, Sky, BBC, ITV or Disney Channel. Even the *ahem* alternative internet re-transmission sites drew a blank so maybe the whole TV network new it would be p!sh.

Anyway, I'm still in golf fanatic mode. :)

"After Charlton Athletic, Dundee United and Bournemouth who all signed a JD sports deal earlier, Luton Town Football Club announced a new kit supply and sponsorship deal with the UK's leading sports fashion retailer, JD Sports.

JD Sports has signed a two-year deal with the Club and the arrangement will see one of JD's exclusive youth fashion brands, Carbrini Sportswear as the shirt sponsor and the official kit supplier of Luton Town's home, away and training kit."

Please for the love of God tell me that's not the front of the new shirts.

Hey, the MLS is in full swing.

Ok, let me catch my breath.

Ex-Fulham Captain Brian McBride has signed with the Chicago Fire, and should be in action after the Olympics.

...In other MLS news, the Los Angeles Galaxy continue to stink, despite having the largest payroll by a country mile. They're proving to be the Spurs of the MLS, scoring often but leaking goals like a sieve. Too bad for Golden Balls - he's bringing the crowds and I suppose that's what he's there for...not for football, of course.

Call me easily amused, but I'm actually looking forward to watching an MLS game this weekend...although I'll be glad when the Premier league starts back up.

I hope Messi wins his battle to play in the Olympics.

He he he.. I usually look forward to MLS matches. MLSnet.com has been very good to me...

A little story I spotted in the local rag... as we all know, Hull is home to the world's most ace team but I didn't actually know it was also the home town of the man described as the 'father of modern football' – he was the first secretary of the FA and a key figure in codifying the rules of the game, and he was born here way back in 1831 apparently.

If they do put up a plaque who better to unveil it than Dean Windass, who I believe was in Morley's class at school?

It seems that some people want to honour him with a dose of the plague. :p

The people of Hull said:
If nobody knows where he lived then why not erect the plague at the entrance to the K.C Stadium ? or would that mean the council would have to have their normal dozen meetings to decide a simple issue ?

Why bother putting a plague up at all?

The price of scrap nowadays, some scrote will nick it anyway!

Why do George and John want a plague to honour him. Surely a piece of metal like a plaque would be a more fitting thing?

Kev, no a plague would be much better,. something like the Black Death but only when Hull F.C. are playing at the K.C. !!

Emmanuel Adebayor insists he wants to stay at Arsenal and intends to sign a new contract at the Emirates.

The 24-year-old Togo striker, who scored 30 goals in 48 games last season, has been heavily linked with moves to AC Milan and Barcelona.

"Now I can tell everyone that, yes, I will sign a contract," Adebayor told the club's official website.

"I never told anyone I would be leaving this club, never ever. I'm very happy we've found a solution."

Adebayor added: "I have three years left on my contract and I'm putting two or three years more, so I'm very happy being part of this family."

And so ends another of the Summer Transfer Sagas™.

Looks like Wigan just scored a late winner.

I'm chuckling that Sevilla's owner just called out Spurs on Levy's "hypocrisy" comments against United and Liverpool. Just goes to prove that everyone taps people up. They're all hypocrites.

Yeah, I saw a video clip of his goal last night – he timed his run perfectly and took his chance very well indeed. He learned to play like that up here, you know. :D

There's still an outside chance we might be able to get a loan deal arranged if Sir Alex can bring in a striker or two during the next few weeks, but it's looking increasingly unlikely I reckon – especially as the new substitute rules means that there's now even more room on the bench for youngsters like Fraizer. It seems we'll have to look elsewhere, as our ranks aren't exactly bristling with strikers either.
