I don't get all the hate for JT, Ferdinand can be just as vile towards referees...
Ah, but Rio Ferdinand is an avowed fan of jaffa cakes...

RioFerdinandJaffaCakes_202359.jpg

...so he does have one redeeming quality. ;)

Rio was also extremely nice to my father when we met him, and allowed me to take a photo of him shaking my father's hand. John Terry on the other hand has never even had the courtesy to meet either of us. Which proves he's the bigger swine

On a similar note, Miss Jaffa Cake and Baby Cake bumped into Hull City 'keeper Boaz Myhill today while out shopping. She reports that the Tigers custodian was very friendly and stopped for a chat about the trainers he was trying to buy for his children. He also commented that Baby Cake was 'lovely'.

The point is, we have firsthand proof that both Rio Ferdinand and Boaz Myhill are nicer than John Terry. I'm sure raggedjimmi has said elsewhere on these forums that Paul Scholes lives near him and he's a top bloke. So we know of at least three footballers who are nicer than John Terry. He really needs to pull his socks up and try smiling a bit more, it seems.

If you want to add to that list I have second hand information from my sister that Gerrard, Riise, pongolle, carragher, reina are all top guys too.

And not park in disabled spaces or be a massive hypocrite

Chelsea captain John Terry says he would back plans to stamp out the hounding of referees.

It would appear that the red half of Manchester have had enough of Real Madrid's shenanigans:

Manchester United have threatened to report Real Madrid to Fifa over their interest in signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real coach Bernd Schuster and president Ramon Calderon have both expressed a desire to see Ronaldo at the Bernabeu.

But a United statement read: "We have watched with growing irritation the comments attributed to Real Madrid over their alleged desire to sign Cristiano.

"We will have no alternative but to report Real if it continues to behave in this totally unacceptable fashion."

It added: "These public attempts to unsettle the player are completely against the regulations and the club will not tolerate them any longer.

"The player is on a long-term contract and his registration is held by Manchester United. The player is not for sale.

"No-one should be in any doubt that Manchester United will do everything in its power to keep its best players."

Seems Sepp Blatter is throwing his toys out of the pram with his want that 6 players in each team are home grown. If that did happen everyone but West Ham and Villa would have a few problems.

To be fair, the six home grown players rule wouldn't be phased in straight away – his proposal states for the first season a team would need to field four English players, then five the following, and finally six. So teams would hopefully have plenty of time to adapt. Arsene Wenger still might have cause for concern, though. ;)

From our point of view, our starting line up on Saturday had eight English players out of eleven – the other three being two Welsh and one Australian. So we're okay, at least until we sign a load of Scandinavian and Eastern European journeymen over the summer. :p

I must say though, bravo on including a graph. That's one thing the old thread lacked – graphs. You can never have too many graphs.

even if it did happen by 2012, you are right Arsenal would have to swap out a huge number of players.

Apart from it breaking European law, we in the UK get screwed as it is based on England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Not sure you could class Ryan Giggs etc as foreign

You sound like Dave Gorman :D

We're separate countries so far as football is concerned – we have separate FAs and separate leagues, from which we qualify to enter European competition as separate nations, so it's only right and proper really that Welsh and Scottish players are classed as foreigners.

Mind, as I mentioned in the old thread – how would this affect clubs that play in another nation's domestic league? Take Swansea and Cardiff, for example. If they're classed as Welsh (what with being based in South Wales and all that) then that's going to put them at a significant disadvantage when it comes to signing English players from other clubs in the same league as them. If they're classed as English though (as they play in the English league, of course) then that must mean any local talent they nurture from their surrounding communities – which is surely what this proposal is encouraging – will be classed as foreigners?

You know, I was toying with the idea of checking all our starting line ups this past season and coming up with a little pie chart of the nationalities we've fielded. :D

I've got some proper work to do though, so unfortunately I don't have the time... :(

Not going to happen anyway - why does Sepp Blatter think that football is above EU law?

Sepp Blatter just loves to hear the voice of ...Sepp Blatter.

Didn't Inter win Serie A with only 1 Italian in the starting 11? I haven't heard him complain about that.

Really? I didnt know that fun little fact. . . Are you sure? Who was it, Materazzi?

I don't think it'll happen. To be honest, I think it'll have a negative effect on this league as well. English talent is already far too expensive and this would drive the price up more, I think it's a poor solution to an admittedly growing problem. I also think, as with the Swansea and Cardiff problem, there are far too many ifs, buts and maybes.

Inter Milan though, I wasn't expecting that. Considering the World Cup winning Italian side I believe only included Italian-based players.

Sepp Blatter is an idiot, and a very anti-English idiot, as mentioned he has used the stats to show how few english players there are in the Prem knowing full well that the french league has higher percentage of french players yet french national team (and league) is the African All-Stars because of their citizenship of their colonies, so depriving the developing countries he is supposed to promote.

When the scottish/welsh/irish foreigner rule was last used in the 90’s it targeted england more than any other league, that brilliant 90’s ManUre (Cantona, Kanchelskis, etc) team had too drop half of their team in european competitions as the rest were UK rather than english.

Blatter is only beating his drum now because he hates seeing all the Prem clubs doing well in Champions League as no-one could knock them out of CL this year except other Prem clubs.

Everybody ready for the Wembley Tea Party tonight :D

I'm would hope, since it's a friendly, for a team along the lines of:

Hart, Warnock, Taylor, Terry, RB unsure (Mancienne?), J Cole/Lennon, Huddlestone, Gerrard/Lampard, Bentley, Rooney, Abonglahor/Walcott.

A nice group of youngsters but enough experience to ensure a decent win!

But seeing the squad, I'm unsure. Not enough youth for me.

After scoring 40 goals in more than 150 appearances Brian McBride is leaving Fulham and returning to the USA.

"I've always stated my intention to go home at some stage and this seems like the right moment to move on," the 35-year-old told the club website.

"I'm proud that my last game saw the club stay in the Premier League."

Fulham will miss him.

Inn-ger-land is dull. Going back to my revision is almost more appealing
True. If the OH will let me near the TV with the PVR I can watch last night's BSG.

I loves me some acronyms :)

EDIT : Saying that though, Gerrard just scored. 2-0.

They certainly will miss him. Fulham will now be Jimmy Bullard's team to carry.

On a side note, Is there anyone else concerned about the number of Americans at Fulham dropping. I think they have only two left. They need at least one more to guarantee survival next year.

In case no one believes me.

Team/Americans
Derby 2
Reading 2
Birmingham 0

Fulham 5

Blimey... our goalkeeper was born in the States, but has recently won his first cap for Wales so he's now totally un-American so far as footballing nationality goes. I hope he realises the damage he's done to our survival chances next season.
