No, sorry it is not. End of. Take out Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool and you have yourself the same 'second rate league' as us.

The only difference between our leagues is that up here Scottish youngsters actually get a chance, we refuse to pay ridiculous cash for players, and our Premier league is smaller.

It is though.

Ok, so you take out almost a quarter of the EPL and you still have Villa, Spurs, Pompy, Everton, Man City, Blackburn and Newcastle. You saying they are on the same level as Kilmarnock, Hearts, Aberdeen and Inverness CT? Please. It's a Micky Mouse league.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. Take the finances out of it and any one of those Scottish teams mentioned would give any one of those English sides a good game.

It is not a mickey mouse league.

So wait, take away the good teams, take away the money (and in turn the good players, of course) and any of your Scottish teams will give them a good game... Of course they will. Can't you see what your actually saying is ridiculous?

No, I meant lets not compare the finances of the teams in the two leagues. I didn't say anything about taking away the 'good players'. The current players in those teams you mentioned would have a tough job against the players up here.

What I am suggesting is simple really, but typically, seems difficult to understand for someone who thinks England owns the entire footballing market.

No, you said take out the money. If you take out the money you take out the best players. If the EPL wasn't one of the best and biggest leagues in the world the money wouldn't be there, the players wouldn't be there and the investment wouldn't be there.

Forgetting the original point, your honestly telling me that you believe, for example, Inverness CT would compete against Aston Villa? Power to you, but I don't believe thats true.

I'm staying out of it! If you remove x teams from EPL and x teams from SPL... it's one of these pub arguements that nobody can win. On the whole, a mid-table EPL team are better than a 3-4 placed SPL team. Hull are better than Inverness. When you start arguing that Aberdeen are better than Aston Villa then it gets confusing.

I thought we'd just signed Stephen Pressley  until I found there is a Danish team called Randers FC!

BBC Radio are reporting that Keagan has left Newcastle.

I wasn’t overly chuffed that he was given the job in the first place, but now if he’s gone I’m gutted.

same old, same old, the circus continues....

I know what I said, but it was interpreted wrong. I meant (third try now) that I didn't want the financial differences between the two leagues being a measure of success, because it's not.

As for the latter point, yes I firmly believe that Inverness CT would give Aston Villa a good game. They certainly give Rangers and Celtic good competition. You're also comparing a lower table Scottish side to a high table English side. Good job!

If Inverness CT were compared to say, Hull, then yes I think the match would be very even indeed.

I'm tired of our leagues being labelled second rate because the cash injections aren't there. Plenty of fantastic, home-grown talent comes from Scotland.

Which is shown by their great performances in International tournaments.

Anyway, SSN reporting 'King' Kev has been sacked. Couldn't happen to a nicer wanker.

Why did he leave? Not enough $$$ for transfers?

After that draw with United I thought things were looking up, though they only have four points.

Yet it wasn't me who mentioned home grown talent. ;)

The home countries have all produced some good talent, but BECAUSE the money factor is more prominent in the EPL, it attracts a lot of the world class players from abroad and leads to Non-National competition winnings e.g. Champions League.

This makes it (the EPL) more of a force in the world football stage.

There has been a media blackout from the club for a while now, so it’s only guess work, take it from me that Mike Ashley will not be sitting with the fans for a while. I’m sure the delay in making an announcement is to stop there being a riot when the admit they sacked KK.

Only 4 points yeh but away to Manyoo & Arsenal out of the 3 games played is not bad.

The transfer window has been a mess and Joey Barton fiasco has caused fraction, Barton was called to the club late last night for some reason so that could be the cause.

You got that right. The whole "man of the people" image has just been flushed down the toilet.

No not bad, you couldn't expect to do better than draw with MU and the Arse. But Ashley seems to think otherwise.

The Barton thing is definitely a farce for Newcastle, but if Ashley think's Newcastle will challenge the top four they need to look at Man City and realize there's no way - even with the new free-spending Arab ownership they will have to spend for years to follow in Abramovich's footsteps. It will happen if they stick with it, but Newcastle needs to spend MUCH more to chase the top 5 spots with any serious hope of success.

I'm actually beginning to wonder if the "billionaire oligarch" owner pattern we're seeing is going to repeat and eventually seriously unbalance the Football League, with more and more clubs staking out a 100% permanent spot in the premiership, and giving promoted clubs even less chance of survival.

I don’t think the results caused Ashley to sack Keegan, I think it was more likely to be a fall out about the signings and/or Barton.

Do you think Keegan's support for Barton was a problem?

yep, and I can’t understand why Barton was called into the club at 9pm on the night of the transfer window closing, as most of the directors and managers were there conducting business. Why else would Barton be called in but to sell him, or an emergency meeting about his immediate future?

But it’s just guess work for now, even with the media blackout over the last few the cracks have been beginning to appear for a while now, especially with Keagan’s unease at the transfer policy where others select and buy the players.

With the baying mob outside the ground they won’t even announce if he’s been sacked, let alone any details.
