I guess that's one away match the Jaffas won't be attending?
I waiting to hear if Tiger Travel will be running coaches to the match. We'll have to depart the KC bloody early, though...

...and I don't fancy the idea of a comfort break at Helmand Province services.

I'm surprised there hasn't been any incisive commentary and analysis on the 2008-09 Football Thread sofa about the Germany vs. England match last night.?
I'm not sitting next to Lawrenson.

A key point for me is that the youngsters and fringe players really did well with their opportunity – they seemed to be really up for the game. Hopefully that'll be a kick up the backside for the 'first choice' players, knowing that there are perhaps others with the ability, attitude, and confidence to take their place on a more regular basis should they not deliver the goods, or if there's something else they'd rather be off doing.

I also thought we generally kept our shape well (until the latter stages at least), which is something we don't always do. The likes of Rooney and Gerrard frequently seem to wander off to do their own thing but without them we looked a bit more disciplined on the formation front.

Mind, it was a bit of a cock up for their goal.

I'll say too that as a long-time proponent of Agbonlahor being given a chance for the senior national side, I was pleased to see him put in a good performance last night.

Hum, I was absorbed with the USA - Guatemala World Cup qualifier. ;)

England - Germany is always a game worth seeing, but this was a case of two understrength sides, with managers blooding a few youngsters. I didn't get to watch the game, so I'd be interested to see how the Hoffenheim youngsters did for Germany. Good to see Agbonlahor getting a start for England.

Right now Capello really seems to have turned the England squad around - it's a long way to South Africa, of course.

Odd team for the foreigners to support

Currently 0 - 0 with the Orient, need to get a win to have any chance to avoid slipping further and further down into the relegation zone.

Watched the Bolton - Liverpool match earlier.

Keane missed an absolute sitter, if he was still in a Tottenham shirt he would've put that away easy. It was a foul on Reina for the disallowed goal, check out the players leg definitly trys to impede the keeper. Gerrard missed another sitter and Torres strikes the post. Although he showed great class to put the cross in for Gerrard to get the second. It should've been 5-0 and could've easily been.

as lordblackadder said, "...not that "crewe"..."

I was surprised by the logo, I suppose it's meant to strike fear into the opposition but it's a bit more reminiscant of the calling cards of the football hooligans we had over here. Indeed, according to Wiki you have 3 major support groups: "La Turbina", "Hudson Street Hooligans" and "Crew Union". I assume there is no real hooligan element to it, just trying to create some authenticity?

Adam Moffat back from injury yet?

It's a bit of an odd crest, that's for sure. Everyone knows that the best crests have a tiger on them.

Meanwhile, Sky Sports News is reporting that William Gallas has been stripped of the Arsenal captaincy and won't be part of the squad to face Manchester City this weekend. This follows his latest outburst criticising his team-mates, saying that they don't have the courage and fight required to challenge for top honours.

Coming from the man who sat last season down in the middle of the pitch and sulked when decisions didn't go his team's way, it seems a bit rich him making such comments...

i believe it is supposed to be something about the blue collar type crew... i'll look into it.

"It was necessary to represent the Columbus community in an appropriate and positive manner. The name suggests a work hard, 'show-me-don't-tell-me' attitude. It implies 'team' - people working together."

The three construction workers featured in the logo, complete with hard hats and displaying a look of distinct seriousness, reflect the demeanor that is expected from "America's hardest working team".

Well, that's eight goals scored in two games with clean sheets in both*. All those people who predicted our immediate return to League Two are looking rather foolish now, aren't they? :D

Today we were up against the non-homoerotic Crewe ;)

*(I know the Yeovil game was technically FA Cup, but they're still a League One side)

Indeed, those who predict immediate relegation for play-off promoted teams are the worst kind of fools.
I see Mr. Windass sort of managed to score today. Well done him (even if it did deflect off someone else before actually going in) :)

I've only seen the score (we're away this weekend) so I wasn't aware of his involvement in the own goal. We loves us some Deano, and we loves us some Michael Turner too. :)

I never doubted, never lost the faith. :)
Ah, but you're a wise lady.

Alex Ferguson's own team need to win first.

True... but they often need a wooden stake in the heart to do it over the long-term. Anyway, I'm more perturbed by what's going on in Cardiff right now, so I'll take my egg-chasing woes outta here.

Crewe Alex 0 - 3 Stockport County

Once again we make it quite clear who the Pride of Che-shi-re are :D

So when was the last time Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal managed zero goals between them?

I don't know, but judging from the weather down there looks like hell is freezing over??

Results in Scotland pretty much by the form book apart from a great win by Inverness away to Kilmarnock (I tend to find the neutrals keep an eye out for ICT results). If anybody is interested, BBC Alba are showing the whole game this evening with commentary in (Scots) Gaelic, available on FreeSat. Believe me, after a few beers you can understand it!

Wow, lots of 0-0 action, if you could call that action.

Liverpool really could have used 3 points today. When May rolls around we might be wishing we had that win. I would have started Alonso.

MLS Cup Final tomorrow! :D

Columbus are the champions!!!

...and I see that the Crew did indeed emerge victorious, 3-1 winners over the New York Red Bulls. Congratulations. :)

Thanks!! :D I love the Jaffatar...pure class, that kit.

I was talking about the game with some friends last night and I not only correctly predicted the final score but also 2 of the 3 goalscorers, in the order they scored...scary!

After seeing the Red Bulls making the final with a losing record during the regular season, I'm hoping we see the MLS move to a single table in the next couple seasons. We can still keep the playoffs, but get rid of the two conferences and wild cards.

I had my brother DVR the match, and I can't wait to see it in a couple days when I fly home for thanksgiving. I watched the Chicago-Columbus playoff match, and in terms of quality of play it's one of the better MLS games I've seen - even a purist used to top European leagues would have called it a proper game of football.

Turning to the Prem, I have to say that it's about time Gallas lost the armband. It should be given to Fabregas. Arsenal need a real captain.
